Why collect artillery?? (1 Viewer)

I'm partial to 19th century black powder era horse drawn field artillery.Horse teams, limbers , outriders ect is just more interesting to me than anything drawn by a motorized vehicle.
Lots of cannon and crews in my collections, but only 4 full limber teams, which is enough.Unless someone decides to make a French Napoleonic Line or Guard horse artillery set .That I could not resist.

FubAr

Check the ATS website www.ats-uk.net he has French gun teams and British. With the British you can also have the spare wheel wagon, ammunition caisson or rocket cart. Trooper

For something REALLY different try a Canadian Sledge Gun Team

OR a RA Caisson of the Crimean War

Splendid John! I forgot about The Italeri Set. I think I even have one among all the other plastic soldiers/models stashed away.
I dont think I'd have the patience for a Historex set.

Oh my god! Those dioramas look huge! Can we get larger pictures, explainations, and can you tell us what brands the figures are? Is that Guard one Frontline infantry with Frontline, Britains, and CS artillery? And the horse one Frontline artillery with Frontline and First Legion Cavalry, and the desert First legion infantry?
Thanks,
Sandor

Gentlemen-

I kind of cooled to this thread but you have roped me back in with your beautiful displays. Obee- those sets of yours have some magnificent personality.

FUB- I love the Spanish/Alamo (not sure if I got the correct period here) display you have. Would love to see a bigger/ wider angled shot because I am having the Dickens of a time coming up with a nice layout for my modern troops.

Very well done fellas- a big STANDS ALONE!! to all of you cannon cockers out there!! {sm4}

Yes we love our cannons. The Spanish theme is somewhere in Spain during the Peninsula war.Alamo buildings standing in for a Peninsula town.
I've posted tons of various pic here on the forum. Not sure where now though!
All probably under BORED TONIGHT diorama thread.

Most are in the gallery here
www.blackcatminiatures.net
That hasn't been updated in a year .

I'll bump my Waterloo thread for you so you can find it.
Alas, last Junes Waterloo epic's images are on my computer, somewhere.

I have some 28mm Napoleonic artillery, I'll try and get those sized and posted.

Anyone know if Alexanders toy soldiers sells Castings?

Thank you!

They certainly do Fub, just drop Nik a line and he will be glad to help you with pricing.

sorry for not being up on the lingo but doesn't that mean something to the effect of stupid?? Sorry that my questions that I pose to the forum to generate discussion- ie action poses, artillery, etc are "Stupid" to you. Feel free to ignore my posts/threads in the future as I will certainly yours.:mad:

Once I implied a Sarn Major wasnt too bright and my heels were locked for three days,,
didnt old bonerpart say something about never having enough artillery,,I came across a rather not knowing fellow at a train show with several Britains guns in the box and tied on cards,I became a cannon cock that day.
Plus there is just something about having a 12 inch howitzer out there in front of you.

Sorry can't agree with this cooment about Best Looking.....

I'd go for the 18th century guns, they were very ornate pieces of art, with scuplted dolphins, royal crests, detailed gun carriages and brightly coloured gunner uniforms.

ACW was drab, with grey or green carriages.

Dear All,

Like many of us ...... I started collecting " the traditional and ever present marching bands....that would usually turn up under the Christmas tree....."
Time passes, and as I grew and got wiser I figured out that action figures were the way to go.....First came the tanks.....but now ARTILLERY is King, while machinegun platoons are the Queen of the battle fields....All other - Vehicles and infantry are supporting troops to great ARTILLERY dios.....Now a days I focus on Victorian Colonial and WW1, but also collect some ACW, Napoleonic, 7 years War and WW2....enjoying the techonogical improvements throught out the centuries......
Some of my sets ( many of which Obee has to be given the merit of the great art work ) now are part of my collection.....
As to the marching regiments and bands....well...they are now mothballed and most likely my wife will profit from them in a future estate sale......{sm4}:eek:{eek3}
