World Cup in Brazil (1 Viewer)

FB,

Maybe we should make Brasil, Holland and Argentina play each other on Saturday since they all played so badly and have Algeria and USA have a playoff to see who plays Germany on Sunday since those two teams played Germany the toughest ^&grin

Brad,

Sounds like a great and fair idea to me! Let's call Blatter asap!....{sm4}{sm4}{sm4}

Gents,

This is going to be an EPIC match. Sentaapua are you going?

Argentina have Messi... Germany, have a team!! Its really that simple.

Holland should have won last night but, it was a horribly dull affair regardless of goals both teams for me have not played well enough in the whole tournament to have got this far. For me in terms of south American teams Brazil and Argentina are falling behind the play and spirit of the other countries in the area and living on what they once were or, thought they were.

I can see the ref will need to be strong as we will undoubtedly see some of the more unsavoury football tactics from the Argentinians. I see this more than a one goal game and Germany to lift the cup

Although I agree that Germany is a team (and I really like Schuerrle), Argentina has played well enough to get where they are.

I do have to take exception to the comment about Argentina though. They are not a dirty team. The stats show that they have committed 64 fouls to Germany's 71 and six yellow cards to Germany's four. Undoubtedly you are thinking to the style of play in the 1990 WC in Italy. This is a different sort of team. The most reliable indicator is not the number of fouls since refs seem reluctant to give a lot of cards, probably at the direction of FIFA.

I would expect a relatively clean final.

I concur with my Futbol savvy friend Jazzeum, as I believe the unsavory tactics are beneath pro's like Germany and Argentina. As always, they may have to "sort out" a few issues on the field, but cheap shots, biting incidents and bone crushing fouls will not be the norm in this final match. I am of the opinion Germany will play a very tight tactical game and not get caught up in the ease of their victory over Brasil. In fact, if you saw Schwienstiegers [sic] chastising of the goalie at the end of the game when Brazil made it one and only goal, you would know that they did not want to lose their composure. Even if they were up 7 nil. Germany will be all business on match day and honestly I don't know if there is anything that will rattle them. The only thing (in my humble opinion) that could be their downfall is either arrogance or overconfidence. But, I must say this team is pretty stoic.

Argentina are talented, fit and flat out ballers. Messi, along with all of the them play like it is their last game on earth and that vigor alone will give them edge in the match. They have to pull out all the stops and then some in order to even score. But, they cannot be underestimated. They can make magic out of nothing and the "passion" has a little more sauce in South America. Their downfall may be being intimidated or allowing the Germans to get in their head. If Germany scores first, I predict doom.

There is apparently a chance that DiMaria could play on Sunday, although he wouldn't start.

Unfortunately not John, I will go to tomorrow's game (HollandxBrazil) here in Brasilia, crossing my fingers not to witness another slaughter....:redface2::wink2: My son however is going to Rio and will be in the Maracanâ on Sunday, wearing a German jersey. It's hard to explain the rivalry between Brazil and Argentina when it comes to football, but the overwhelming majority of Brazilians will become German citizens for a couple of hours this Sunday...!{sm4}{sm4}{sm4}

I think many countries have rivalries and this one is no exception; it's historic, economic and linguistic. I actually had one Brazileiro tell me he was rooting for Argentina so that the trophy could be in Latin America.

Brazil is going to self-immolate despite the ref giving them a favorable break on the penalty. 2-0 already. Jeesh. -- Al

I just watched a replay of the most of the Third Place match and my observations:

(a) Silva should have been red carded. He had the gall to say after the match they didn't deserve this. Oh, yes, you did. Their play was atrocious.

(b) David Luz. Oh, my, god. Chelsea must be thanking their lucky stars they sold him for $59 million to PSG. Conversely, the PSG bosses must be kicking themselves.

(c) The third goal. All types of space for the Dutch player. What were the defenders doing.

(d) Robben. How good is he? He will be 34 in 2018. Hope he gets a shot to win a title.

(e) Many of the Brasilian players should never play again for the national side. When you rely on a player like Hulk who doesn't play for a strong European team, this is what you get. As with the players from 1950, they will not be forgiven nor allowed to forget. Scolari should be shown the door on Monday.

It just seemed like Brazil didn't care, as if playing for third was beneath them.

I think Robben never had a better time playing football than in 2014 - both in club football as well as playing in the World Cup. No way to predict if he will be available playing for the Netherlands in 2018 but
judgeing by his present form he certainly will.

Perhaps more interesting to know, will there still be a game for 3rd place in 2018? Playing it out was cancelled in the finals of the european championship. Remembering this years match between Netherlands and host Brasil I tend to believe that cancelling it might be a good idea, - but I would not have wanted to miss the match for "bronce" in 2006 for anything in the world ...:)

So another tricky one to answer

Wolfgang

DiMaria is not starting today although he is said to be fit. They can't take the chance of starting him and losing a substitution in 10 minutes.
