It was first called the World's Championship Series in 1886 and eventually shortened to the World Series around 1903. While the name does suggest a degree of national arrogance it might be remembered that few if any teams of that caliber were playing baseball in other countries at that time and the contribution of other countries to the major leagues only became noticeable 20 or 30 years ago and relatively speaking is still small. There are now other nations with teams that might be competitive in a 7 game series but frankly it remains doubtful that they would be so in a major league season and actually make it to the "world championship". Perhaps that will change in time, but then again, baseball loves its traditions so the title may long survive.;):D

There is your answer Wayne; sort of like The "Super" Bowl, when in fact most of them have been far from Super...........

Probably because the game originated here, just like football. Now in the

case of soccer & rugby and many other sports we of course deferr to the

rest of the world.:D

Yankees blew it tonight, AJ simply stunk giving up 4 runs in 1st. He should

have been pulled after first 2 runs scored. Somedays just aren't your day.

Better luck on Saturday.

Someone tell me why Joe had a brain fart and kept Hughes in there so long when he had nothing. Every other game ,he has used up all his pitching just to get a handful of outs...Score Yankees 3 games to Giradi's 2 games, as both Angel's wins were gifts from our mgr..Michael

Both Angels wins were gifts from Nick Swisher. In the first one run 11th inning loss, Swisher came up twice with a runner at third and less than two outs. He struck out once, and popped out the second time, and nether run scored, costing us the game. Last night he again had two opportunities with runners in scoring position (the second being bases loaded with two outs in the 9th), and again failed miserably. He has been a total liability this post-season, and needs to be benched in favor of either Hairston or Gardner.

Girardi made only one other mistake (besides letting Swisher remain in the lineup) and that was leaving Burnett in after the long top half of the 7th inning. You can't argue he overmanages and then complain when he sticks with Hughes, his best set up reliever all year.

Yes, some days aren't your day. What are you going to do. Too bad they couldn't hold the lead when they got it. Even my son, who's not a huge baseball fan, was excited with that 6 run inning. Wasn't meant to be I guess.

On the bright side, they had to return home anyway and playing an extra game does keep them a little fresh, fresher than the Phillies anyway.

Yeah, just one of those games. I felt the NYY had it won after the 6 runs to take the lead. Figured the Angels would throw in the towel but they are obviously a dangerous and resourceful team. I guess that why they call them pros. Can't complain about Hughes but would not have started AJ in the 7th. He had sat too long. Oh well, bring on game 6 and old pro Petitte. -- lancer

Hi Guys,

Very exciting game to be sure and like I told all of my friends Anaheim will not be a push over. I am looking forward to the evening game on Saturady and hope the kids will remain calm enough that I can watch the whole thing for a change.

One good thing about it would be the phone call someone received after the

game asking (yelling/screaming) exactly the same question!:D

Lets see how the next game is managed.:)
