Yeomanry Miniatures (1 Viewer)

Has anyone else (apart from Brian) picked up my mistake in the painting ????

Its the plume on the 8th Hussar, it should be white over red, NOT red over white!!!

If I had exactly followed Brian's excellent uniform painting guide in his kit, I would have done it right, but still, its easy fixed with a couple of dobs of paint, and then the US collector who ordered them will get an accurate uniform.

Its also been pointed out to me that the blue of the unifomr isn't dark enough, it should be very dark, verging on black, but I don't tend to mix paints, preferring to go for the closest colour out of the can, and thats all I could do with Humbrol.

Hi John,

I have found that if you get a small glass jar with lid and put in two or three tins of Humbrol dark blue and then add as much black as you need you will get the colour you want and a supply that will last you a considerable time without drying out. This will save you mixing the colour every time you have a figure to paint.

I must admit I tend to cheat by going to the local DIY store and having the colour I want mixed for me and buying it a litre at a time. I then decant the paint into small jam jars (the type that posh cafes serve their jams in for afternoon tea over here) works out a lot cheaper than buying Humbrol in the end. If you can't get hold of this type of jar let me know and I'll send you one to use. I find they hold up to the equivalent of 4 tins of Humbrol. Having said this I believe some airbrush firms sell spare screw top jars for their airbrushes which could also be pressed into service.

Regards.

Brian.

John . . . Next time you visit an art supply store pick up some Paynes Grey. I've used it for years and am very satisfied with it.

If I want to get a dark navy blue - I use Humbrol Oxford Blue and a touch of Matte Black. Both colours are matte - of course - but when varnished at the end of painting, shine just as well as gloss paints. Because both paints are dark - they mix quite easily and quickly each time -and it's not difficult to get the shade right each time - so I don't bother mixing up large quantities.

Given the amount of time a dark navy blue is required for TS - it's always surprised me, that Humbrol don't do that shade as a basic colour.

I particularly like the way John has painted the frogging on the front of the Hussar uniform, which is very neat and crisp. jb

Thanks for your kind comments about my painting.

These are great figures, well scuplted with all the necessary details, so relatively easily painted, and so look really good.

I hope to have another set to show you all soon.....

Hi Johnny

Humbrol used to make a dark blue that was suitable the number was HB9 and it was called Sea Blue Gloss. I t was a great shame when it was discontinued.

Brian

Gentlemen,

Just to bring you up to date with developments. Last Friday I took delivery of a number of new moulds and have spent the time cutting and proving them so that today I was able to cast the metal pieces for the Lanchester Armoured Car, the crews for the Vickers Light Tanks, the new Lovat Scouts mounted figures and a new set of occupants for the Rolls Royce Staff Car pre 1914. All I've got to do now is assemble and paint them!

Regards,

Brian.

Clearly - they couldn't have sold enough of it to keep it going. Still surprising though - considering the number of TS I use it for. Guards trousers, various tunics (Hussars, Lancers etc>) Blues Dress - and as for the Navy!!!!....................

No big deal though - my mixture does the job - justs means opening two tins instead of one. jb:D

Luiz,

they look great all lined up in 'column of route' heading off to who knows what?

I love seeing soldiers and equipment posed in a diorama, and by the look of the images you have posted you have a vast collection, so thanks for sharing them with us,

John

News on the Rialto,

First four Lanchesters are now assembled and are being painted. Waiting for the decals to arrive and will post pictures as soon as they are ready. In the meantime here are some pictures of the masters of the next vehicle to be added to the stable.

Hi all you WW1 nuts,

I have pleasure in posting the first pictures of Yeomanry Miniatures latest, the Admiralty pattern Lanchester Armoured Car. This particular one is in the colours of the Royal Naval Air Service and comes complete with a Naval Officer seated on the turret. An Army version will be available with it's Commander in the turret hatch. Nicknamed the "Flying Fish" by the R.N.A.S. they had all been either turned over to the Army by the end of 1916 or passed on to the Belgian Army. Approximately 36 or these cars were produced by the Lanchester Co and did sterling work on the Western front and Russia in appalling conditions. Six cars were also sent to the Middle East to supplement Lawence's Rolls Royce Armoured Cars but were torpedoed en route.

I hope you like it, I have learnt much in putting it together and yes there will be a Belgian versio in due course and yes the turret does revolve.

Regards,

I thought you might like to know that Yeomanry Miniatures now have their 1904 Rolls Royce Staff Car in production. There will be a few at the London Toy Soldier Show on 25th June and orders can be placed now.

The car and occupants comprising of Driver, 2 Staff Officers and a General Officer retails at £119.95 painted and £69.95 as a kit of parts, for all of you who prefer to do your own thing.

I enclose some pictures of the finished article.

See you at the show.

Hi Buster,

Now that Dave Love has finished the German Staff Car he will be starting on the Austin, both NAAFI and Ambulance. We should see some progress by the end of July.

Regards,

Brian.
