Things that annoy me (5 Viewers)

Excellent points. But why so defensive of the rich? Arguably, they benefit most from our power. Most know how to do so, anyway. If they want the power to wage wars and reap the benefits of tax cuts (as they have proven they do) then they should pay. As to our Great State, rising Labor cost is a good thing. Labor has always been a target of wealthy people who don't want to pay. As for the Tax Foundation, it is business-friendly and therefore biased.
Anyway, good to hear economic news from a true expert.

I give up. Do tell me how waging war has anything to do with the average rich guy who made money trading stocks and working for a living. Labor is not a target but paying a line job the equivalent of 500 plus dollars an hour is insane. That is why true manufacturing is dead in this county. But what do I know I am just a lowly cpa who works for a living. The tax foundation is a recognized politicaly agnostic think tank. They are called names when their study doesn't fit one sides narrative. Sorry but business friendly is not biased. Why do companies and people leave certain states in droves for florida and texas, it is not bias but simple math. It is not political it is mathematics. Once again the rich do pay, that is not defensive in any way, it is math.

Sorry if I offended. I actually didn't mean to be sarcastic Tom. You are an expert. Let's agree to disagree here.
Best Wishes all the same

Only in California:

"A jury in California on Friday ordered Starbucks to pay $50 million in damages to a delivery driver who was severely burned by an improperly secured lid on hot beverages.

Michael Garcia was picking up drinks at a drive-through in Los Angeles when he “suffered severe burns, disfigurement, and debilitating nerve damage to his genitals when hot drinks ultimately spilled” onto his lap, according to the lawsuit filed in California Superior Court in 2020. The lawsuit accused Starbucks of breaching its duty of care by failing to secure the lid."
I remember a similar case at McDonald's many yrs ago. BTW, recently had a coffee at McDonald's and it was just lukewarm, maybe due to cases like this one.

It's truly bizarre if the reports of Biden using an autopen to sign official government documents including pardons turns out to be true. Did he even have a clue that someone was affixing his name to all these documents? Maybe so, but maybe not. If the documents were not signed, it does seem to raise an issue regarding their validity. I assume a court could say that they could still be "authorized" even if not signed but I'm not sure how they verify which were authorized and which were not. I doubt Biden still remembers half the documents that were signed with an autopen.

It's truly bizarre of Biden using an autopen to sign official government documents including pardons. He was clueless that someone was affixing his name to all these documents, like he was clueless of everything else during the time he was installed as President. The documents were not signed, so therefore, they are not valid. A court would be unable to verify which were authorized and which were not, therefore all of them are illegal. I doubt Biden still remembers half of what he did while installed as president and wasn't really running the country.
Fixed if for you.

The outlandish overhype of St. Pat's day. I enjoy drinking beer and watching Leprechaun movies but I don't need a contrived excuse to do that. My wife is in London and I asked her if anyone was celebrating St. Pat's day. She said are you kidding. Americans seem to be the only people to hype these ersatz holidays like Halloween and Cinco de Mayo.

My girlfriend, myself and another couple went out to dinner tonight at some local joint, the bar was packed with nitwits dressed in green drinking green beer with cheeseball plastic irish hats on, beads and other such nitwitty get ups. Getting hammered on a Monday night over some half assed holiday sounds like a solid plan.

As you said, we Americans are...........................something else.

I made the mistake of listening to the Irish music all day on satellite radio. Granted, a lot is catchy as in "what do you do with a drunken sailor" and the Pogues but man is it depressing. When they talk about the luck of the Irish what they don't tell you is that all their luck is bad luck.

Many Presidents have used the autopen to sign documents, many of which Republicans like myself have benefited from.

The last thing I want to do is revisit and reverse those gains over petty grievances.

This is one of those "say it in public enough, people think its true". The "rich" do pay the proportionate and overwhelming share of the American Federal Income Tax Burden. If you look at the taxpayer studies put out by the independent Tax Foundation, people (individuals) in certain income tax brackets (very high) pay over 90% of the total tax liability paid. So they probably arguably pay more than their "fair" share of the American Federal Income Tax Burden.

Where the burden falls disproportionately on the middle class (both upper and lower which is the majority of our Country) is in cost of living. That problem is partially caused by high tax States like New York, California, New Jersey, Illinois all of which have both high sales and property tax burdens and additionally by rising costs of real estate, transportion and also Labor nationwide. Additionally, this trickles down to high rent/occupancy costs for the markets which are selling to consumers, etc. Now, it is not all of these States to blame either as Companies tend to raise costs across the board to smooth out large jumps/costs in particular areas. Long story short, there are a lot of factors well beyond the Federal Income tax rates that dictate. In all reality, the Federal Income Tax rate is probably the least of our concerns and influence.

Not necessarily what is put in the press, and not as simple as some of the tidbits above, but the reality is, the federal income tax system really doesn't cause a lot of everyday angst for most Americans.
Tom:

I always defer to you on economic issues and tax questions.

My point is not about specific federal tax rules.

However, when it comes to tariffs, as corporations pass those costs (“tax”) onto consumers people making $500k can absorb those increases much better than someone making $50k.

I agree that it is not worth the time and effort to revisit those pardoned. However, I'm still astounded that official government documents that only the president has the authority to act upon are being signed by autopen without even knowing who is affixing the signatures or being able to confirm that they had the president's authorization. Any WH staffer could print off a bunch of pardons, affix the president's signature, and release them. I'm not saying that is what happened but in Biden's case, he probably had no clue what his staff was doing on his behalf.

Don't disagree but unfortunately tariffs are non selective as to who pays. And I am one of the opinion that their effectiveness was lost when we gave up manufacturing in this Country. For now they are being used as short term bullets in thr trade war. They are not sustainable and I am hopeful both sides give some concession and we move on.

The tariffs are extremely unpopular in my red area. But what annoys me even more is:
People from opposing political sides can no longer get together. Whatever one side says will be so shyte-upon by the other - we may never reach consensus.
It's hard to even go to work without political repercussions.
Whatever your views, Whatever you do (including the rich - don't freak out on me here), We Wish you the Best.
So Happy Collecting and remember the pitfalls of politics,
Paddy

Opening up my homepage every day and seeing a story about Bronny James. I'm assuming this is due to some AI algorithm that knows I'm a Lakers fan but erroneously assumes that I'm fascinated by all things BJ. And by that I mean Bronny James to avoid confusing the AI.

Who ?
Though to be honest, and assuming sports related, not interested and fortunately, whoever this non-entity be, they're a non-entity this side of the pond, as I'm sure our sports related blobs are your side.

I am stealing “sports related blob” for use across so many topics.

UConn women's basketball team winning a game today by the score of 103-34. I didn't actually see that game but there is no cause to run up the score and humiliate someone in the tournament. I'm sure they put in their scrubs at some point but maybe the coaches should show a bit of sportsmanship once they are up 40 or 50 points in the second half.

Women’s college basketball has lots of future potential.

For now there are about 4 teams that can win championships, the rest (125 teams or so) are all just cannon fodder for ESPN to promote the most lopsided games imaginable.
