Things that annoy me (9 Viewers)

The thing that astounds me the most is how two people can sit down, view the exact same footage of an event and come away with two completely opposite takes.

It's got nothing to do with personal opinion/perspective and everything to do with how you align politically in this country, which speaks massive volumes as to how far off the rails this country has come.

And the complete lack of respect for law enforcement in this country is disgusting, glad my Dad is not alive to see it.
Ive heard policemen say that when there is a crime committed and you have witnesses that you get different stories from them. So no surprise here. Hopefully the FBI will have a professional non partisan report.

I am 100% well familiar with the catch all phrase..."I was in fear for my life"...
once that is said...the outcome becomes subjective to whoever views the evidence...
but sometimes that is not enough to justify a shooting...
here is an interesting story that made national news last year...

I do appreciate your candid and what I believe are honest omissions concerning your experience as a police officer...
"I most probably would not have shot."...

thanks for your time and well written review of as an ex police officer how you would have handled it...
Mike that shooting in Il. that you pointed out was well covered here in St louis as it is close. And I will tell you that officer was 100% WRONG. I said that almost from the begining but when more facts were released it sealed the case. I will be honest in all police shootings I look for any even little reason why the officer fired his weapon in giving a lawfull reason he did it. In that case you pointed there was NONE and he was convicted and should have been. Cases like that give ALL police a bad name so in a way I take it personal. I have brought this up among my retired police friends and for what ever reason officers now days seems to draw their weapon a lot. I only did in what I believed to be truly dangerous situations. And back in my day we could lawfully shoot any fleeing felon. He did not have to be a danger but the mere fact he committed a felony gave us the lawful right to use deadly force. I will say one thing has drastically changed from my time and now and video is pretty much why. Since the statute of limitations is up I can confess we did some serious a-- kicking. The one thing I guarantee you will end up with a trip to the hospital if there is a car pursuit and when you are finally caught LOOK OUT. I was in a few pursuits and they are scary, especially if your partner is driving, myself as the passenger was trying to find the brake pedal on my side all the while yelling at him to slow down. I was in one pursuit of a stolen auto and we were about a block behind it when it ran a red light and struck another car broadside killing the driver. After the initial crash everyone in the stolen car jumped out and ran. We did catch them but they were all juveniles and further we could never prove who was driving. People really have to walk in our shoes to totally understand.

My cousin as very lucky from State Police to Homeland to Executive guard to Federal Marshall. 47 years on the force, retired 12/31. He never had to discharge his weapon once in the line of duty. He considers himself very lucky. He actually retired due to the environment of today, not because he wanted to quit. Started as an 18 year old State Trooper.

Guys. Our country is divided and it hurts. Seems taking personal responsibility is something we don't admire anymore. Always somebody else's fault. I guess the only thing we can do is to be moral ourselves and hope our kids can change the world for the better.
To Gary, my retired cop brother would joke and say, those criminals sure are clumsy. They keep falling down and getting hurt.

Are the suspect was injured when he fell up the stairs! When you are being questioned about something your partner did and your response was " I didn't see anything I was tying my shoes". This one don't fly anymore when questioned as to why the officer shot someone, "The suspect displayed a shiny object". And remember always stick to your story.

Gary...appreciate your candid view as a retired police officer...I value your honest input...I can definitely identify with the last part of your post...

I owned a restaurant for almost 28 years...called the Golden Griddle...1824 Seawall Blvd...the first 2 years we were a 24 hour restaurant...think of Denny's or IHOP...dealing with the 2AM crowd is something you can probably relate to and don't miss...business was great but the crowd at 2 AM was mostly the dregs of society...drunks and trouble makers...a friend of mine...who wrote for a small Galveston magazine...wrote a parody article article on going to eat at the Golden Griddle at 2 AM...referring to the bar crowd as being similar to the Star Wars Intergalactic bar scene...crazy wild...but business was great...2 AM line at the door...eventually hired a cop from 11 PM to 3 AM on Friday and Saturday nights...and we had some tough cops...it was that bad...still it seems I was in court every Monday morning for theft of service...disorderly conduct...or a fight...2 times exchanging gun fire in the parking lot with customers...once I was arrested for assault...my parents begged me to close for a few weeks fearing I was going to get killed...saying over and over there is nothing but trouble on the streets after midnight...I remodeled to a seafood restaurant...called Miller's Landing...closing at 10 PM...still there today...business was better than ever without the drunks...so I can relate to your stories very well...I did 26 more years like that before retiring at age 48...

these protesters...if a protester puts their hands on an ICE agent...that's assault...jail time for them...no if ands or buts...hit an ICE officer with a snowball....and you deserve a bit of a butt whipping before being cuffed...which was the same thing I did when I had to chase you out the door after your dine and dash attempt...you make it hard on me and I'll make it hard on you...

I root for the police on Cops...and have no problem with officers taking a fleeing criminal down as hard as necessary...if you make a cop chase you...you should get "a little extra special treatment" when you get caught...I am 100% pro cop...one of the most dangerous and toughest jobs in the world...using force as needed but only the gun as a last resort...the gun is only when there is absolutely no other choice...

All this discussion goes to show that the US is still despite all the current tensions a society that still believes in the rule of law.
In the time since this happened, over two thousand protectors have been killed, demonstrating in Iran as the dictatorship there hits out at all who question them.

My Dad always used to tell me when I was of drinking/going out to clubs age..............."After you've had your fill of booze and want to stop at some joint on the way home and you walk inside and see police officers in the first booth having coffee; turn around and leave, they are there due to trouble at that place all the time, paid detail to break up fights and so on and so forth"........

Boy was he right.

What I see happening in these videos is protestors mixing it up with ICE agents, blowing whistles, getting in their faces calling them every name in the book, antagonizing them, taunting them, or worse yet, snowballs being thrown, water bottles with frozen water, that is a deadly weapon, imagine getting hit in the face or the head with one of those............these people have no respect for the law, as in zero, it disgusts me.

You want to peacefully gather at town hall or wherever and protest, go right ahead, but to protest/impede their ability to do their job/surround them at gas stations, that's crossing the line as far as I'm concerned.

I blame states like MN for condoning this sort of behavior vs telling people to knock it off and let them do their jobs.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

For the mayor of Minneapolis to tell ICE to "Get the #$%^ out of Minneapolis" is not very constructive or conducive to deescalating the situation, it's just making it worse.

Actually, you could write a book and call it "The Golden Griddle/Miller's Landing chronicles", the stuff you've seen/been involved with has the makings of a best seller.

I can't imagine dealing that crowd every Friday and Saturday night, the old expression "Nothing good happens after 2:00am" rings true, that is truly the worst of the worst, drunk and hungry is not a good combination.

Around here, two of the IHOP's started closing at 10:00PM on Friday and Saturday nights, too much trouble, not worth it.

Really good point and unfortunately one that is lost here in the USA to the partisanship of the day.

You used "to bounce" at some clubs you have told me...you know exactly what a drunk can be like...belligerent...stubborn...hard to deal with...they're ticked off when you turn on the lights after last call and they are not ready to go home alone...so you gotta wrestle that drink out of their hands and send them packing...now they're in a bad mood and they go to the busiest place open at 2 AM thinking in their drunken, slobbering daze of alcoholic consumption that there is one last chance to get a woman...it's a recipe for disaster...

when I got arrested I was arrested by the Sheriff's Dept...not the local police that I knew well...employed and played golf with, rode motorcycles with...County Jail is scary compared to City Jail...I was scared when they threw me in the holding cell with about a dozen hardcore criminals...I called my dad....

my priest...Father Charles Anastassiou...who just happened to be the County Jail Chaplain...came down at 4 AM dressed in his Sheriff's uniform with my dad and told the jailer..."he's with me" and got me out of there...not gonna lie...I hugged that wall and didn't say a word to anybody til he showed up...I didn't know any of those sheriffs...I only knew city cops...

once before I went to city and turned myself in on an assault charge and I sat with the cops drinking coffee...they were my friends...I signed some papers and then went home and waited for my court date...case dismissed...

this incident with the Sheriff's department all started when this drunk guy came in about 2 AM walked straight to the restroom and slapped a waitress on her butt...I saw the whole thing...I followed him to the bathroom and told him to leave...he whipped it out and instead of using the urinal he peed right on my bathroom floor while I stood there...I was so mad I punched him in the head and when he fell I grabbed him and mopped up his mess with his clothes...I let him up and told him to leave...his eye was swollen up and he went and filed charges on me and 30 minutes later I get arrested...but small town...small favors...when it went to court...case dismissed...

The difference in attitude I got with people while on the way into the club was 100 times different than when they were leaving.

I caught person after person smuggling drinks out of the club..............mostly women who stuck them in their purses, some gave up the drinks willingly..........others, not so much, which is how I got my classic "boxers break" in my left hand when one Prince Charming decided to interfere and play the hero for some slob...................when they took me to the emergency room and the doctor took an X-Ray, he said to me "Probably not a good idea by you to punch a wall then huh?"............to which I replied "I broke it punching someone in the head" and he said "So I assume he's either in the ER......or in the morgue."

The club was a few doors down from a gentlemen's club, a lot of the girls when they got off work would come to my club..............then the nonsense would start, they were mostly just there for a good time, not to meet their future ex husbands, they dealt with enough foolishness at the gentlemen's club, didn't want to get hassled at my club, but it happened anyway.

I had some good nights, some bad nights and some really bad nights.....................looking back, I'm lucky all that happened to me was breaking my hand, some of the brawls in and out of the club were legendary, I got off easy all things considered.

I don’t understand the whole illegal immigration thing in the slightest, not only in the US, but also across the UK & Europe?
It makes no sense. Why would you allow illegal migrates to invade your country, especially those with entirely different cultural and religion. It’s bizarre. Why have open boarders?
It’s almost like this is being done on purpose? To maybe destroy each country from within, due to some werid sense of guilt?

And why are folks objecting to illegal migrates being deported and deliberately obstructing law enforcement officials from removing these overstayers? It’s crazy!

The "why" is an interesting question. I'll try not to be too political but politics is certainly a major component. There are some people who genuinely believe that America should open its border to all the poor and oppressed to give them an opportunity at a better life. And any effort to enforce immigration laws or deport them is the product of racism. The political motivations are bipartisan. Democrats believe that the illegal immigrants will one day be future voters for their party. Ten million people today is another 40 million people in the next generation and so forth. Republican politicians often turn a blind eye to them because they are a source of cheap labor for big businesses that keep costs down and profits up. The real force multiplier here is Trump. Trump made immigration and border control a cornerstone of his successful 2016 campaign. Because Trump was in favor of closing the border, many feel they have to oppose it for that reason alone. There is no logic or common sense to that other than opposition to anything he proposes. It reminds me of the old Groucho Marx song:

"I don't know what they have to say
It makes no difference anyway
Whatever it is, I'm against it
No matter what it is or who commenced it
I'm against it"

Iran seems to be playing the US once again. Right on the verge of finishing them off, Trump seems to have pulled back. Sometimes you have to bring down the hammer and let the chips fall where they may.

Thank you for the feedback, its greatly appreciated and not an easy topic to explain, especially given the complex combination of factors that are contributing to it.

As an outsider looking in the political divide seems obvious in the US, however by no means is it the sole reason for the debate raging around illegal immigration.......every western democracy seems to be battling their own demons when it comes to this issue.

Interestingly enough I've asked AI the same sort of questions and the responses are a topic in themselves.

I've also watched countless interviews from both sides of the debate and concluded that those in support of illegal migration are really quite mad....

Their logic is riddled with inconsistencies and often results in a word-salad of leftist rhetoric that make no sense.

A problem with AI responses to questions is that, with AI gobbling up text from places such as Wikipedia, and what it takes to be facts, because AI has found them repeated enough, when it is just repeating opinions of people who wrote these texts who included their own bias and tend to be left leaning and pushing their agenda.

The migration issue for me is way too complex for even 10 answers, as often they get grouped into one mass, which misses the individually of cases. In the UK the boats are a big issue, but this for me is political parties taking advantage, as there are way more that come in and overstay student/worktourist visas. which is also wrong, but the previous gov over a decade closed down the legal ways people can apply to come to the UK, so if people want to come they are going to come the unlawful way. I am a bit of a 'lefty', but not on all things, i think those that come here illigally should not just be set free into our community, we do not who these people are, we need to do this for internal social sentiment. Put people in secure accommodation, from which they cannot leaves [camps] where claims are looked at and meanwhile there is education and socialisation on behaviours etc if you are granted entry. If not you are deported, but then again i think unless you are born in the UK then you do not get a full British passport and right to stay, do not care if you come from France, Sweden, USA, Middle East, Africa, i cannot understand how one day you are not British and the next day you are. People that want to come and live in a country, where i live and others, should abide by the laws and if they break them then we have to the right to remove people who have moved here, not talking about parking tickets etc, but the medium to high level crimes.

On the US from watching from afar, they seem to have been a little too enthusiastic. It was a good idea to get rid of illigal crimminals etc. However, i think the way they have gone about it has been a little too heavy handed. According to US figures Obama in 8 years deported through ICE 3.1 million people. While Trump in his first 4 years deported 932,000. No one seemed to kick up a fuss about Obama, in the same way as they have with Trump. I think this maybe down to the way it is being done and whom is being deported. There does appear to be a lot of people being removed who have lived in the US, all be it illigally, for decades, not broken any laws while there and been part of their community. With many Americans having their husbands, wives, girlfriends etc removed and hearing them on interviews they are shocked and seem to think that the laws were about them and their families. The case of the woman being deported back to the UK, she has lived in the US for 35 years and has never had a problem, when returning from Ireland on holiday she was arrested and is being held for deportation. But part
of me is thinking, you have had 35 years to get legal status, so why haven't you? I feel the behaviour of ICE and the amount of airtime given to the extreme cases and there does not seem to any due process afforded people will have an affect, with the mid-terms in Nov 26 the GOP Congress men and women and Senate will go to 'i need to save my job' mode and behind the scenes there will be discussion and things will calm down, hopefully.
