The thing that astounds me the most is how two people can sit down, view the exact same footage of an event and come away with two completely opposite takes.

It's got nothing to do with personal opinion/perspective and everything to do with how you align politically in this country, which speaks massive volumes as to how far off the rails this country has come.

And the complete lack of respect for law enforcement in this country is disgusting, glad my Dad is not alive to see it.

Ive heard policemen say that when there is a crime committed and you have witnesses that you get different stories from them. So no surprise here. Hopefully the FBI will have a professional non partisan report.

I am 100% well familiar with the catch all phrase..."I was in fear for my life"...
once that is said...the outcome becomes subjective to whoever views the evidence...
but sometimes that is not enough to justify a shooting...

Mike that shooting in Il. that you pointed out was well covered here in St louis as it is close. And I will tell you that officer was 100% WRONG. I said that almost from the begining but when more facts were released it sealed the case. I will be honest in all police shootings I look for any even little reason why the officer fired his weapon in giving a lawfull reason he did it. In that case you pointed there was NONE and he was convicted and should have been. Cases like that give ALL police a bad name so in a way I take it personal. I have brought this up among my retired police friends and for what ever reason officers now days seems to draw their weapon a lot. I only did in what I believed to be truly dangerous situations. And back in my day we could lawfully shoot any fleeing felon. He did not have to be a danger but the mere fact he committed a felony gave us the lawful right to use deadly force. I will say one thing has drastically changed from my time and now and video is pretty much why. Since the statute of limitations is up I can confess we did some serious a-- kicking. The one thing I guarantee you will end up with a trip to the hospital if there is a car pursuit and when you are finally caught LOOK OUT. I was in a few pursuits and they are scary, especially if your partner is driving, myself as the passenger was trying to find the brake pedal on my side all the while yelling at him to slow down. I was in one pursuit of a stolen auto and we were about a block behind it when it ran a red light and struck another car broadside killing the driver. After the initial crash everyone in the stolen car jumped out and ran. We did catch them but they were all juveniles and further we could never prove who was driving. People really have to walk in our shoes to totally understand.

Are the suspect was injured when he fell up the stairs! When you are being questioned about something your partner did and your response was " I didn't see anything I was tying my shoes". This one don't fly anymore when questioned as to why the officer shot someone, "The suspect displayed a shiny object". And remember always stick to your story.

Gary...appreciate your candid view as a retired police officer...I value your honest input...I can definitely identify with the last part of your post...

I owned a restaurant for almost 28 years...called the Golden Griddle...1824 Seawall Blvd...the first 2 years we were a 24 hour restaurant...think of Denny's or IHOP...dealing with the 2AM crowd is something you can probably relate to and don't miss...business was great but the crowd at 2 AM was mostly the dregs of society...drunks and trouble makers...a friend of mine...who wrote for a small Galveston magazine...wrote a parody article article on going to eat at the Golden Griddle at 2 AM...referring to the bar crowd as being similar to the Star Wars Intergalactic bar scene...crazy wild...but business was great...2 AM line at the door...eventually hired a cop from 11 PM to 3 AM on Friday and Saturday nights...and we had some tough cops...it was that bad...still it seems I was in court every Monday morning for theft of service...disorderly conduct...or a fight...2 times exchanging gun fire in the parking lot with customers...once I was arrested for assault...my parents begged me to close for a few weeks fearing I was going to get killed...saying over and over there is nothing but trouble on the streets after midnight...I remodeled to a seafood restaurant...called Miller's Landing...closing at 10 PM...still there today...business was better than ever without the drunks...so I can relate to your stories very well...I did 26 more years like that before retiring at age 48...

these protesters...if a protester puts their hands on an ICE agent...that's assault...jail time for them...no if ands or buts...hit an ICE officer with a snowball....and you deserve a bit of a butt whipping before being cuffed...which was the same thing I did when I had to chase you out the door after your dine and dash attempt...you make it hard on me and I'll make it hard on you...

I root for the police on Cops...and have no problem with officers taking a fleeing criminal down as hard as necessary...if you make a cop chase you...you should get "a little extra special treatment" when you get caught...I am 100% pro cop...one of the most dangerous and toughest jobs in the world...using force as needed but only the gun as a last resort...the gun is only when there is absolutely no other choice...
