Capt Hubert Dilger moves his 12 pounder Napoleons into battery position left of the Carilse Road in support of Lt William Wheeler's 13th NY Light Artillery Battery of 4 rifled guns around 3pm July 1st. They engage Doles Brigade advancing against Von Gilsa and Ames brigades and Jones' Confederate battery.
A battery sgt offers some advice to Lt Wheeler
The on rushing Confederates forced the two batteries to withdraw by prolonge, firing as they retreated towards Gettysburg.
Diorama notes: Capt Dilger was awarded the Medal of Honor for covering the Union retreat at Chancellorsville. He later fired the shot that disembowled Lt Gen Polk during the Atlanta campaign. Rifled guns are by Troiani, WB and FL, Napoleons are WB. Figs are WB and two of FL. Dilger's Battery had 6 guns, but I only have enough canoneers to man eight pieces, and enough space. Dio board is by Ken Olsen, who also modified two fig sets for me. Chris
