2017 Baseball Season: Let's Play Two! (3 Viewers)

It was a great day for the New York teams and a good weekend so far!

No one likes to lose games but the Mets definitely needed these games. It was great to see Reyes have some good games and Familia look good. Hopefully, he's thrown off some of the rust.
Yep. NY teams are beating up the B/W corridor teams. O's pitching has been bad, as has the Nats relief pitching (as usual). Mets Hr power has surprised more than a few Nats fans, as has NYY Hr power. Unfortunately for the Nats the game 3 match-up heavily favors the Mets, who have Thor pitching against a so far unimpressive Joe Ross for the Nats. -- Al

The Mets rely on the HR too much; there are not enough singles and doubles hitters on the team. The rest of the team will need to pick up the slack now that Céspedes is out for awhile. A large worrying sign is Addison Reed: he has given up a lot of HRs, more than he did all of last year.

uBADo strikes again. Lasted a grand total of 3.1 innings, giving up 7 runs. O's behind the 8-ball, trail 7-0 after 4. uBADo's ERA on the year now at 7.83. Jeesh, it's feast or famine with this guy, and usually a lot more famine. The Donner family probably had a picture of him in their wagon.:rolleyes2: -- Al

And wind up losing 12-4.{sm2} Chris

Saw that Eaton is out for the season. That's a big loss. Bummer for you guys :(

Nats have lost Adam Eaton for the year with a torn ACL. He was their big trade acquisition to be an offensive catalyst and he had been doing an excellent job at the top of the order. Going to be hard to replace him. Time for Plan 9 from Outerspace. Bummer. -- Al

With Eaton topping a list that includes Cespedes and Bumgarner this thread is more MASH unit than baseball!!!!

Well, my heart just skipped a beat as Syndergaard injured himself. He wasn't right today. Mets nation holds its breath.

The series ended about how I figured, split 2-1. With the pitching match-ups, I figured Friday's game to be a push, with whoever won it probably taking the series, and so it was. Figured Strasburg to win, and Thor to win. I was wrong on both counts but the results were what I expected, overall. I hope Thor is OK. He is too good a talent for the Mets, and MLB, to be without him. Like you say, he wasn't right from the get-go. No one scores 5 runs off of him in a game, much less one inning. Otherwise, Anthony Redon picked a good game to break out of his season long slump. -- Al

He's heading back to NY for a MRI. They wanted him to have one a few days ago and he said no. The team said they couldn't force him. What?? You're paying his salary and he says no. Perhaps this could have been avoided had he deigned to take one.

If I'm not mistaken didn't the Nats go back to back to back in the 8th inning. The loss is the least of their issues. The injury put a damper on what was a successful weekend.

No, they did not. It was Lind and Rendon who went back to back. Harper had homered earlier in the inning, followed by Zimmerman, who singled, I think. Nats hit 7 today. I think the Mets hit 10 Hr in the series, mostly from the lower part of the batting order. Caught the Nats by surprise. And the Mets should have pushed the MRI, but I'm guessing the union would have gotten in the way. -- Al

Some nitwit proposed between innings at the Red Sox/Cubs game tonight.

She said no.

Talk about awkward.........................I hope he got up off of one knee, excused himself and told her he'd be right back and then left the ballpark.

Whenever I see those proposals I always wonder what would happen if she says no. Now I know.

Ouch.

Speaking of disasters, the Giants lost 2 of 3 to San Diego this weekend at home while scoring 10 runs and giving up 20.

Well, did you? {sm4}

Well, season is probably over: Syndergaard has a muscle tear. No projection when he will return. The farm system has no prospects to send.

Lugo might be ready in a month. Matz? Who knows?

That sucks. It was an expensive series for both teams, with the winning or losing having nothing to do with it. Nats lost Eaton, an essential offensive key, and the Mets lose Thor, their best pitcher. This was a series that would have been better left unplayed. :rolleyes2: -- Al

To file under the heading 'Rut-Ro': There are 107 starting pitchers in baseball with enough innings pitched to qualify for the ERA rankings and the bad news is that 2 Orioles pitchers rank near the bottom with uBADo Jimenez at #105 with a 7.43 ERA and Kevin Gausman at #106 with a 7.50 ERA. This has to change. -- Al

This is a riot. A young Mets fan went on a rant about yesterday's loss, http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/b...letive-laden-rant-23-5-loss-article-1.3121095

If I had talked like that when I was his age, I would have had my mouth washed out with soap!
I'd seen this earlier this AM. Really kind of a sad statement about what can be gotten away with these days on social media. Kid didn't even get the score right, and he blames, amongst many others, an injured player. What a brat. Good thing he's got some growing up left to do and maybe learn that being a fan isn't always a bed of roses.:wink2: -- Al
