    Display space....any do's or don'ts?

Do, keep your stuff behind glass (if possible) to keep cleaning person/kids/curious Georges from finger banging or, breaking your collection. It also reduces the need for constant dusting. I tend to haunt furniture stores in search of useful curio cabinets. Do keep the stuff as high as...

    What was your favorite?

I agree Winky, the new sets are very cool. I have the Conte Zulu set and it is really cool but, those foam buildings create some serious storage issues. The cost of the newer sets (at least Conte) get prohibitive for the less well heeled collector. I just wish I wasn't so old and fat so, I could...

    What was your favorite?

Would that be the 1/72 Fort Sahara? I too, like that set and had loads of fun oppressing indigenous populations (not to be taken seriously). I still have a set and have augmented the garrison with the ESCI FFL figs (the best I've seen in any scale).

    What was your favorite?

The "possible" part of reproduction was the issue of having to assemble some figures that couldn't be molded as a single piece. The need to keep cost down in plastic armymen is very high. That was my meaning.

    What was your favorite?

As many of us played with plastic troops in our youth, I thought it would be fun to see what was your favorite playset/sack of sojurs? Mine would have to be the Marx "Battle of the Blue & Gray" set. I loved the redoubt that came with the set for the cannon and the troops were in some very cool...

    NEW LAH packaging

Yes, inspection prior to shipping is the only way to go. It may get damaged after that but, at least it wasn't broke before it was sent to the customer. I have seen several cases when figures came from the factory with some serious issues. Depending on which factory did the job, the QC can be...

    Battle Of Trafalger Print

Here's another version: http://www.leisuregalleries.com/trafalgar.html Robert Taylor also did one titled "Honblower and the Indifatigable" that is a really good print along these lines.

    Favorite Britains set or figure?

My personal favorite from Britains was the American Revolution Swoppet sets, both British & Colonial. I got them in my stocking way back in the 60's and I had no end of fun with them.

JUst got some of the Philipines planes in

These planes all come from the same place but, under different names. I know them from an outfit named Showcase Models but, there are others. Like VCRs that were made in 3 or 4 different factories under scores of brand names, these airplanes and ships are done in the same factories to different...

    How many collectors are there?

I too, started in plastic. I had a friend who had a large Britains collection and we would play with both together. Now that I can support my own habit, I can afford the metal painted Toy Soldiers but, I still apreciate a good plastic playset and will buy one that strikes my fancy (Conte Zulu...

JUst got some of the Philipines planes in

The K&C airplanes were made in the same place yours were, just to different specifications. I was not blowing K&Cs horn, simply pointing out some Toy Soldier lore. Can't someone join in on a thread without someone getting bent out of shape?

JUst got some of the Philipines planes in

K&C used to offer those with the under carraige in the lowered position way back when they still offered the RAF ground crew sets. Their vehicles used to be made the same way too, remember the first Tiger I? They were way too expensive (at least 1/2 again as much as the ones offered wheels up)...

    Lord of the Rings

Ah, someone has too much time on their hands :D . Looks like a way cool set up. Are those metal or, plastic game figures? As to the "just add dirt" attitude, in my youth (I had one of them?) we had a volleyball court in the backyard that had decomposed granite piled on it for years as part of a...

    Lord of the Rings

Yes, all of your examples, I have seen. You miss my meaning. My wonder is, why no playset, like Louis Marx used to do or, BMC or, Barzo? Like green Armymen, sacks of Orcs and other characters. Inexpensive hordes of fun for hours, just add a dirt pile and viola, Middle Earth.

    Lord of the Rings

I've seen pewter, 1/18 & 1/6 action figures but, I wonder why someone hasn't developed a line of plastic 54mm'ish plastic figures based on Lord of the Rings? Licensing fees? I bet they would be popular. I was watching Return of the King the other day and this question came to me. What say you?

    What is Ritterkreuzträger

Well, I can give you 2/3 of the answer: Ritter = Knight Kreuz = Cross I'd guess that it's a Knights Cross decoration (Iron Cross) from WWII.

    How many collectors are there?

The older guys (for the most part) are still stuck in the "Toy Soldier" past. That part of the hobby IS dying out. The newer matt finish with the better action poses is the up and coming style of Toy Soldiers. The Old Guard actually played with metal toy soldiers when they were children. I don't...
