2018 Baseball season (2 Viewers)

Nats have started their annual bullpen rebuild obtaining Kyle Barraclough from the Marlins for international slot money. -- Al

I never understood that either but I don't look gift horses in the mouth. Kimbrel always killed the Nats.:wink2: -- Al

From the brief research Ive done, the Braves were in desperate need of dumping the Upton brothers and their huge salaries. This deal allowed them to do so, at quite the cost.

I suppose being saddled with a couple of pricey underperformers for years and years put them in a bad spot, but they made the original Upton deals of their own free will.

Got the series between the 2 best teams, and with no rooting interest I will wish both teams good luck and the same for Mike and George. Someone has to win and someone comes up short, but it will be a great series and one MLB has to be pleased with. Looking forward to Verlander vs Sale. -- Al

If Boston wins they will have beaten two 100 win teams just to make it to the World Series. I am not sure that has been done before?

Jason, I think this is the first time there has been three 100 win teams in the same league, in the same season, thus Boston would accomplish a first. -- Al

Al:

Thanks for the info.

As a baseball fan I am happy with this final four.

Best of luck again to George and Mike Miller, it should be a great series.

It almost happened in 1993. Braves and Giants (when both were in the Western Division) won over 100 and Phillies won 97.

The Cubs Kris Bryant has apparently lost his mind as he has turned down a multi-year $200 million contract extension. He is under contract until 2022 and will be 30 years old when he hits FA. More delusions of grandeur... -- Al

He’s not out of his mind; his agent is Scott Boras. When I saw your post, I was positive Boras was his agent.

Shoulda realized.:redface2: Even so, a couple more seasons like 2018 before he hits FA and that $200 million offer will be wishful thinking. It's a roll of the dice. That is a lot of money to say no to. -- Al

Milwaukee Brewer players that I can name from memory: Hank Aaron post Braves, Jerry Bell (my dad briefly dated his sister), Paul Molitor and no one else. I didn't even realize they were in the NL. They are basically the Washington Generals to the big market teams in the playoffs. That doesn't mean they can't beat my Dodgers, but the small market teams in MLB are mostly fodder for the Yankees, Red Sox, and LA. Hard to compete with those massive payrolls.

Sixto Lezcano, Robin Yount, Don Money and Cecil Cooper...……………..that's all I got.

But yeah, your point stands.

An no offense to Brewer or Astors fans, but MLB and FOX are hoping and praying for Red Sox/Dodgers as Brewers/Astors outside of Milwaukee and Houston would be a ratings disaster.

The ideal match up would have been Dodgers/Yankees, two of the most storied and popular franchises in MLB history.

If the Dodgers met the Red Sox, it would be their first meeting in the WS since 1916 when the Red Sox beat Brooklyn, then known as the Robins, after their manager Wilbert Robinson, affectionately known as Uncle Robbie. Brooklyn did not officially become known as the Dodgers until 1932.

Don't know if it's a matter of no choice or not, but the Brewers are starting former Nat LHP Gio Gonzalez against LA and Kershaw tonight. Looks like a big time mismatch on the face of it. Gio may be a couple of seasons past his prime but he is capable of coming up with the occasional gem, although they are becoming fewer and farther between. Good luck tonight, Gio, I'd like to see you spin a winner. -- Al

I thought for sure Roberts would go with Ryu as he did in the NLDS, then I realized that his strategy might be different in a 7 games series.

It should be a great game, I am looking forward to it.

George Lombard, first base coach for the Dodgers, is a graduate of my high school, a decade or so younger than moi. Interestingly, he was a star on the football team and initially sighed a scholarship to play running back for the Univ of Georgia. Then, after he was drafted by the Braves in round 2, he dropped football entirely.

Never worked out for him in the major leagues. Played in fewer than one season worth of games.

I see where he played for the Nats in 2006, getting into 20 games. At least he was good enough to get to the majors even if it was a spotty stay. Will always be a local hero for your H.S.:wink2: -- Al

Good win for the Brewers but LA almost ran them down. -- Al
