2018 Baseball season (2 Viewers)

It's unlikely that this series will return to Boston. These Dodgers will probably suffer the fate of the Superbas (as the Dodgers were then known) when these two teams last met.

One game at a time as they say, game 3 will be huge; if the Dodgers win, they have life, if they don't, their in a 0-3 hole. Mookie is heating up too...………...JDM hurt his ankle on Tuesday night, if he can't play in the outfield, not sure what happens as there is no DH in the NL park.

And I've said this 9,000 times, but once again, it's idiotic how both leagues are forced to use the other league's rules when they play in each others parks.

If the AL has a DH, use the DH in the NL park; if the NL pitchers hit, then they hit in the AL park.

It's moronic the way it's currently laid out; why force one league to use the others rules, just use your own rules and be done with it.

One MLB Network analyst put it best (paraphrasing):

The Red Sox are the best team in baseball and have been all year including the post-season. On top of that they are getting the breaks that teams usually need to win and the fact is that they can beat you even if they don't get those breaks.

So much for me thinking Dodgers/RS was going to be a ratings bonanza for FOX; games 1 and 2 were the two lowest rated games since 2014 and 2015 respectively.

When baseball's older viewers pass away, they are screwed, young people just don't care about the sport.

Games getting over at midnight/in four hours is not helping...………………….

In 1916 the Red Sox beat the team now known as the Dodgers but they did it at Braves Field because it was larger. Parts of Braves Field still exists but it is now part of Boston University and is now known as Nickerson Field.

The Braves left Boston in 1952 and among their heartbroken fans was a 12 year old boy named Robert Kraft who said that their leaving “rocked his world.” The Patriots’ staying in Boston can be traced to the Braves’ leaving.

All good points. I simply can't stay awake for the games that go late. I stuck out a game a while back that went past 2am but I still failed to make the end. Midnight is about it for me then it's check ESPN in the morning. I'm a little surprised at the low ratings. I also thought that was the best matchup TV could hope for. -- Al

One reason that has been noted about the drop in baseball ratings has to do with gambling. More and more money is being bet on football and basketball, thus the viewership for MLB has dropped.

I'm a Dodgers fan and don't even watch. There is no point when the games go on so long that I never see the end. Just check the score the next morning. Something major needs to be done to shorten the games. Or at least avoid the endless pitching changes.

I'm a huge baseball fan but have grown more and more frustrated by the lengthening of games, both through the replay process, but especially the endless pitching changes. It is the current state of the game, but I quite agree that something has to be done to restrict the ridiculous march of the 'face one man and gone' relief pitchers. Maybe a max number of changes per inning (say 2, for instance) or require that a pitcher face a minimum number of batters (say 3). Also, a pitch clock needs to be enforced. And while we're at it, lets restrict the ridiculous defensive shifts that now rule the game (though this isn't a time issue as much as a pet peeve of mine). Changes are needed to speed up the game, even if it only saves 10-15 minutes a game. -- Al

Living in the Pacific time zone certainly has its advantages, being on a 3 hour time difference, games played on East Coast time usually end around 9-10 P.M. but I certainly lived through many a 12-1 A M. games!!!

Just out of interest do the overseas viewer stats feature in the overall ratings?

I know the games becoming more popular overseas.

Just a thought.

Cheers.

Al, I wish games ended sooner but World Series games have ended late for a long time. It is what it is, as they say.

For example, game 1 of the 88 Series, the Gibson game, ended at 1140pm; game 5 of the 86 Series (not the Knight one) ended at 1154; game 5 of the 85 series at 1115, a little better; game 5 of the 87 series at 1203am and so forth.

It has little to do with pitching changes as the way pitchers are used has changed over the years. These games just take awhile to be played because of their importance.

I remember game 6 of the 86 Series, which was an extra inning affair. My wife was sleeping and woke up to see me praying when Mookie was at the plate, right before he hit the ball that scored the winning run. That one ended after 1230am and it was worth staying up late for!

Brad, agree about the WS games. My rant was really aimed at the state of regular season games in general. I should have been more clear. I can't stay up late for regular or post-season games without paying for it the next day. I seem to have forgotten about how late the WS games go as I remember actual WS games played during afternoons when I was growing up. Remember well the dash for home once the bell rang ending the school day so I could see the later innings of the game. The WS in black and white, a memory only for those of a certain age.:wink2: -- Al

Well so far tonight, you have to give Dodger fans credit, the crowd at Chavez Ravine is electric.

And by electric, I mean they are all driving Priuses or Teslas or Fiskers

It's unfortunate there are no more day games at all. Money talks....

I don't find the regular season games bad because they start at 710. The West Coast games are tough, though. The worst are the Dodger games because they start at 1030 whereas the Padres and Giants games start at 1005.

As the saying goes, we can sleep in November ^&grin

You forgot the Porsches. I have never seen as many Porsches as I see in Orange County.

That HR by JBJ was unreal; the Dodgers looked to be in solid control. Let's see how LA responds.

Bellinger's throw might be a game changing moment. He was positioned perfectly for the throw. Kinsler was lucky he wasn't out at 1st and 3rd.

2am in Texas and I am still watching Game 3!!! This would be easier if I was in Cali.

I am too invested to quit now, it is Saturday morning in all 3 continental US time zones.....

Great game.

I am pretty sure when I crawl into bed right now my wife is going to whisper:

"I want a divorce....."
