2019 Baseball season (1 Viewer)

Cards beat the Braves in a battle of bullpen meltdowns, 7-6. Thought the Braves had it won, then thought the Cards had it locked, but the Braves made a comeback that just fell short. Hope the Braves don't hang Melancon in effigy. -- Al

What a meltdown by the Braves, specifically Melancon, he sucked when he was with the Red Sox, they dumped him off on the Pirates and never looked back.

Nationals and Dodgers in a close game; that is until Rodney and Strickland come into the game, also know as the gas can duo, 2-0 becomes 5-0 in the blink of an eye, two gas cans get lit up and blow a close game wide open...……………..

And so it has gone with the Nats bullpen all year. I knew we were doomed once we had to go to the pen. So it goes. Tomorrow, Strasburg will have to be what the Nats weren't tonight, sharp. Nats just didn't look ready to play tonight and the bullpen killed any chance to keep it close. -- Al

For the life of me, I don’t know how Rodney still gets a job anymore; the Nats are his 13th team. However, with the way the Dodgers were pitching, a 2-0 lead was probably going to stand up. I’m not sure you can fault the Nats bats.

I’m not sure I understand what you’re getting at?

In my mind elimination games are for a series, not 1 game.

If one game is an elimination then the 49er's are 31-21 in elimination games, which is actually their playoff record.

Typical Atlanta sports- and why I try really hard not to care very much what a bunch of people I don’t know do.

Well, it is an elimination game or, if you like, a play in game but the result is the same. Semantics.

The Nats kept it close and gave themselves a chance. That is about all you can ask for game one from the wild card team that has travel across the country. They have a better shot at game two but the Dodgers are tough at home. I'm not too worried about this series. The Braves will probably manage to still win that series. And they might be a tougher nut.

Agree. Rodney drives me crazy and I cringe every time he comes in. As the old saying goes, good pitching stops good hitting and that's what the Dodgers did. I didn't think we could come back last night, even when it was 2-0, but the bullpen squashed any hope there might have been, as they have done all year. The hitters just can't be expected to continually make up for an awful bullpen, especially in the post-season where you face the best teams in baseball. -- Al

Wasn't too upset at the Game 1 loss, as I knew it would be a tough game to win in LA, just upset with the incompetent bullpen. Strasburg better be sharp and Game 2 is a must win for the Nats or it is going to be another short post-season adventure for the Nats.:wink2: -- Al

Thanks guys. Just need Strasburg to pitch like Verlander did. Easy-peesy.:rolleyes2: -- Al
