I have just got my latest Toy Soldier Collector in the mail this morning, and inside the back cover I see this advertisement for the new 88 ...

88.jpg

Note that is has a 3man crew, so I wonder if they will be producing the other 7 gunner to man this beast ?????

Also it says it will be available in November ... it's now November so it must be available now ?????

Well I am quite surprised it has been at least 3 days and none of the rabid 88 watchers have mentioned the 3 x 88mm ammo sets that have been added to page 3 of the upcoming releases page on the W Britain web site.

Thanks for the heads up Ansar 👍just had a look, good to see accessories being released, hopefully some additional crew to follow.

Ok i will start it off.................
That is because William Britains have cried wolf too many times to believe them. Information on the release of the 88mm is the Toy Soldier equivalent of 'The Cheques in the Post'.

There was an email from Ken in June 20 which was shared and that stated a confirmed delivery date for Sept 2020 for the 88mm and once they had moved there would be new products arriving every 4 to 6 weeks, which means at the widest dates we should have had 3 deliveries since then...how many have we had? We also got a link to Britain's being on YouTube, 3 months ago and there is only a single video uploaded in 3 months.......then again the page is about new releases...........

I saw the pictures on the website, but there are a lot of 'to be released' figure pictures on the, but if you are happy to collect pictures of Toy Soldiers you are very happy, but most of us on this forum collect Toy Soldiers not pictures. William Britains continuing putting up pictures and not releasing is the equivalent of Pi**ing down my leg and telling me it was raining.

The 88mm gun will remain a joke for years, due the years and years since it was announced and the continuing misleading information from the company on release dates.

I can see people being disappointed with 88 set but if you include the Collectors Club sets, the releases in the last four months have been around 50 figures. So the promise of 12+ sets every 4-6 weeks has held true.
W Britain has been busting through their backlog in good shape.
I heard their reasoning for the limited releases the last couple years, I understood it and I only wish them well.
Keep up the good work W Britain!

While I'm not interested in the 88, I noticed an announcement for a new Union artillery piece and crew. Two of the four figs appear to be repaints but looking fwd to adding this one to my battery. Chris

It be interesting to see where WB position themselves RE WW2 Germans as Warpark are cheaper and In my opinion produce a much better range at very competitive prices. There was a mention of new WW2 vehicles from WB and that'll be a challenge for them , good to see the new 88 ammo but again its a lot more expensive than Warpark(Although for now they've sold out).

Agree and i think the Eagle Design 88mm is excellent, cheaper, plus lots of different paint schemes. No comparison on quality of course as no one has one yet.

Hi,
FYI
Have a look at MKL's page
£31 lower price for the 88 and new listings shown
https://www.mklmailorder.co.uk/william-britain-future-releases-for-pre-order-420-c.asp

Cheers, appreciate the link, but having a price is no good if you cannot buy it.......... From the pictures it might be worth it as there are the figures and ammunition to take into account as well, but it is not, as the others on the page, yet released. Either they are coming in November of not yet released with others just announced [i know that is the page for pre releases] and looking at the other MKL pages i cannot see any recent releases......... the 88mm is not even announced for Nov 2020 as was promised. Thanks again, off to look at the new J Jenkins and possibly T Gunn will have their Dec 20 releases announced on the forum this coming week.

Thanks Chap, but 'releases' are relative to the collector, there has not been 50 releases in the UK in that period, nowhere near, have you got a link or list of the figures you have had released in the US, so i can check with the 2 main UK Britains distributors [MKL and Magpies], not for me, I stopped collecting Britains a few years ago, lack of releases and price/quality plus in my opinion there are better figures/vehicles from other manufacturers for my money. I buy on-line for 3 others, they are of an older generation [ i am closer to 60 than 50] and in their words do not 'do' the internet, so i am happy to order for them and get them delivered to their homes. They keep asking about announced sets and the 88mm is the main one and for them it is Britains only, they sometimes buy other figures which fit into their ranges, such as T Gunn Zulu War stuff, but one said when he does he feel like a cheating husband as he is devoted to Britains.

Thanks in advance. Keep safe and lets all do our bit to keep everyone else safe. The TS family members are mainly due to age and health are in the high risk category.

You stopped collecting Britains years ago yet here you are "belly aching" on the Britains section.
It's your right, to speak your mind, but it's a waste of time in my humble opinion. Move on for Pete's sake.

If you read the post you will see i buy for 3 others [not for profit, as they are friends of the family] who do not have access too or do not use the internet, as there are no shows to attend and very few shops stocking Britains figures. i am getting asked from them what is happening and my posts are theirs as well as my questions/thoughts. They come from a time when Britains was the the only large scale toy soldier company and get frustrated when Ken and others constantly highlight and send out information on definite release dates, not just for the 88mm but for many other figures/sets, and do not deliver.

I also grew up less than 3 miles from one of the main William Britains factories and had relatives who worked there and were involved in 'home painting of figures' as in the 60s William Britains used to use people to paint their figures at home, not plastics as they moved out to Hong Kong in 1966, i had an aunt and uncle who used to get unpainted figures and paint them at home, I can remember as a child being at their house and not understanding why i could not play with all the Redcoat toy soldiers. What i am trying to say is Britains is/was more than a TS company, for us Brit collectors it was an institution and part of our childhood. It is being ruined by people who, and this is my opinion, just bought it for the name/brand and are using that to sell other things. Prints, board games, etc.

Finally, i do not buy, but that does not mean i will not buy again if they actually released something i liked. I got rid of my Zulus, WofN, Clash of Empires ranges due to lack of releases and what was being released was poor, my Napoleonic's because i collected K & C, which i think are better, but kept al my bands/ceremonial plus His of Brit [and US] Army, but have them all and the other follow on gloss sets. When/if Britains do look to release some new sets i may buy, but the price is creeping up on gloss. I also left the collector club in 2018 after 23 years because of the poor service, i got my 2016 club figures in May 2017 and my Britains December 2016 Show figure in March 2017, but what put the nail in the coffin was it was not just financially worth it, as you could buy the exclusives from the then Britains stand at the London Show for the same price as club members and there were loads of Standard magazines at the show on their stand for free.

I really miss the Britains annual Ceremonial Band release, they were excellent and for many of us the toy soldier highlight release of the year............

Nice to have this discussion, that is what the forum is all about.

Be safe and keep the kids, the cat/dog and the dust away from your toy soldier collections.

Thank you for your history of your family's affiliation with the original William Britains company, that was a very interesting read. It is almost blasphemous to be on here knocking them then.{eek3}
I get the reasoning in your frustrations. I'm just a bit sensitive when it comes to the endless bashing of these companies. I want them all to make it. I enjoy collecting from several different companies too. I collect what comes out and if a company takes awhile to release new products I buy from other companies to fill the gaps.
I've noticed over the years that when the bashing gets overly harsh it drives the proprietors from reporting here. Everyone needs to have a thick skin in this world, but it's not required. I look at it as a reciprocal relationship that I'd like to keep going.

You stay safe as well.

Let me once again preface this post by stating I have nothing against Britains.

As a matter of fact I am a collector of their products, I respect their history and admire the current owners.

More to the point of this thread, I want to purchase their 88.

Finally I have great respect for those that have posted potential information about its release and shipment.

With all that being said as of today I fear that the 88 remains unavailable and the rumors regarding shipment are just that, rumors.

Many people feel your disappointment, it is the hope that gets to you. I have vented much on the 88mm, but it is the prime example of the way Britains has declined.

if you want an 88mm try Eagle Design, no figures but the gun is great, so much i bought 2, 1 winter and 1 in grey.
