And so it begins . . . that is SNOW (1 Viewer)

After a bunch of near misses, Winter is definitely here in Toronto. The Saturday forecast of a few flurries missed the mark. Saturday overnight got cold and unexpectedly dumped a ft. of snow. The forecast for Mon - Tue was accurate with temps of -30C and 2ft. - 3 ft. of snow

I was going to complain about it being 0 degrees here later this week with 40mph winds, but we are a tropical paradise compared to Toronto. I do wonder how anyone lives in those climates. That is brutal. My tolerance for the cold has diminished as I've gotten older.

As I sit here typing this it is -26F with a -49F wind chill. All schools are closed today and tomorrow along with many businesses. Even the USPS has cancelled the delivery of mail today. This is a killer chiller for sure. This Artic Vortex will break all kinds of record lows.

sounds like a total shutdown...I would move immediately...^&grin

I can't fathom the weather you all are having you gotta move some where warmer.
Put conversion in your old measurements ^&grin

I'm pretty sure having acclimatized to the cold weather, I'd burn to a crisp in heat and sunshine like this.

So last week it was zero degrees with negative wind chill. Yesterday it was warm enough to put the top down on the car. Today it is supposed to be in the 60s. Very weird weather.

Panzer,

Going to San Fransisco for Spring Break! How is the weather in March? Any rec's on food joints YOU HAVE to eat while there or places to go off the beaten path? I've been through SF going overseas, but never have visited...we are excited!

John:

The snow already melted. :(

You can do the regular places, for example just about every restaurant on Pier 39 has great (fresh) seafood.

Harris' is my favorite steakhouse and in my opinion the only place in SF with a steak that comes close to the ones we get in Texas. Alfred's is also excellent as far as steaks go. People swear by the House of Prime Rib but in my opinion it is over crowded and more of a tourist spot nowadays.

If you want great Italian food you should definitely go to Original Joe's. I would do Tacolicious for Mexican food, although it is nothing like the Mexican fare in Texas. Perry's on Union has the best "California" cuisine.

If you are anywhere near Polk Street you have to go to Bob's Donuts.

The weather is usually very pleasant, although it can get as low as 50, LOL.

Hit me if you have any other questions or you can PM me.

I am outbound to Texas on Thursday.

Best,
Jason

London has recorded the warmest Winter temps ever, yesterday and again today, at 21C (70F). Back to near normal again by the weekend with wind and rain and temps around 10C (50F) still it's been nice the last few days driving around with the top down^&grin

Cheers

Martyn:)

And Toronto just set a snowfall record for February 27. It didn't seem so bad at first. But the snow kept getting more intense as time went on. Visibility became near zero and avoided hitting a truck that changed lanes right in front of me.

So they issued a tornado watch here about 2PM. It is effect until 9pm. It's blaring from the radio and TV over and over. Everyone I encountered mentions it. It rained for about five minutes around 3pm and the storm has moved out of the area. So I have to wonder why it is in effect until 9pm? This happens with every storm. The alert is in effect for hours after the storm has moved on. I'm no meteorologist, but few storms reverse track and head back. Once they are past they are history. The weather channel is going on and on like it is the end of times.

Same in Maryland :( makes you wonder if this is how radio stations increase their ratings!

Exactly. It's weathertainment. I don't mean to downplay real concerns for serious weather effects. But the weather media need to drum up business as much as any other business does. It's interesting to hear a weather report, and then to look out the window, and see how accurate it may be.

Prost!

As everyone knows, southern California has fabulous weather. After the plentiful rains earlier this year, we are now having just about perfect weather and everything is green (which is not usually the case) and in bloom. No snow storms, hurricanes, or tornadoes, but we do have earthquakes and wild fires.
