Seems like he will stay with the Cards, which is what he should do. Just can't imagine him in anything other than a Redbird uniform, and that's the way it should be!

Selig, quite possibly the worst commissioner in the history of American Sports

Couldn't agree more, this is the same moron on whos watch there was a tie at the all star game because the teams ran out of players, so what does the halfwit do, he makes the all star game "count" by having the winning league get HFA for the World Series.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

How about this; THE TEAM WITH THE BEST RECORD GETS HFA IN THE WORLD SERIES YOU BOOB.

I like the Cardinals, they are my third favorite team, but they should not have had HFA in the World Series this year, that was joke.......................

Rats! Now the Marlins have corralled Mark Buehrle, the pitcher that the Nats wanted so badly. Time for Plan B, (Oswalt). -- Al

Double rats, I thought the Sox were going after him. Funny to think that last year all the talking heads around here were wondering what the Red Sox were going to do with six starters, now they are down to three, one of which missed most of last year with a lower back issue..........

Cardinals team site is reporting Albert Pujols has signed with the Angels as of last night. Terms of the deal appear to be 10-years, $260 million and no trade clause. Sad to see such an iconic guy leave the city where he has been the face of the team for so long. Cards offered him $220 for 10 years, so I guess the extra cash was the thing.....

That's just a crying shame. How much money can you spend (easy for me to say), not to mention he's a god in St. Louis. Condolences to all Cards fan.

This is tragic. Pujols in an Angel's uniform or any other uniform than the Cards, is just wrong. Where's the loyalty? As Brad said, how much money is enough? I think that a 10 year contract for $220 million is EXTREMELY generous. But an additional $40 million was apparently too much to say no to. Too bad. -- Al

Agreed on all counts.

Sports today=GREED, GREED, GREED, GREED.

Understood 40 million is a lot of cabbage, but come on, as Brad said, how much money can you spend.

The next time one of these guys takes a home town discount to stay put will be the first time.

The days of players staying with the same team their entire career are long, long, long gone.

They go to the highest bidder, end of story.

Loyalty is a lost art.

Hot Stove now reporting that the Angels have also signed CJ Wison to a 5 year deal. The Rangers are going to have some competition. -- Al

I thought there was a recession on {eek3}{eek3}^&confuse

So will the Yankees and Red Sox, payroll wise - 240 Million over 10 years for Pujols plus they had to beat a Marlins offer of 16 million per year for 6 years to sign Wilson for 5 years. Assuming 24 million plus at least 16 million per year for the next 5 years added to their payroll (40 million per year!) their payroll, which was already north of 100 million, has joined the big boys!

So now you've got five legit teams in the AL; Rangers, Angels, Tigers, Rays and Yankees fighting for four playoff spots.

The rest of the teams might as well pack it in..............

George,

Your Red Sox have as good a chance as any of these five teams once their injury problems get squared away.

Here in St louis the local tv stations stopped their "regulary scheduled broadcast" to air the Pujols story. Just like it was Pearl Harbor or something.
Most sports commenatators here are not bemoning the deal, more or less, see ya Albert.
I personally think deep down the Cardinal Orginazation are breathing a sigh of relief that they did not have to put out that kind of money over the 10 years for a now ageing star. The Cardinal owners come out the victims to Cardinal fans and will not have to take the heat for being cheap skates, it,s all on Albert and his greed.
Myself being a non baseball guy I could care less. Gotta go and get ready to go to tonights Blues game, hockey, now there is the sport!

Sorry, I don't see it, the other five teams are clearly better than the Red Sox.

The Red Sox need a closer, a right fielder, a back up catcher and two starters. Not to mention their 3rd baseman can't stay on the field and their left fielder is a human trainwreck................

Several sources are now reporting the Angels also signed CJ Wilson.

Wow.

Yes, that's a fact. I guess business must be good for Mr. Moreno.

With the exception of the obvious blockbusters, the baseball meetings were kind of low key. A lot of teams stayed way under the radar. Still a lot of time left till spring training, though.:wink2: -- Al

I will be honest, as a Cardinals fan, I feel torn on the issue of Albert. On one hand, he was such an amazing player and positive clubhouse presence that it is tough to see him go. His production will certainly be missed and it would have been nice to see such an iconic 'modern' player show the team loyalty for his career.

However, I also don't think there are 10 years of All-Star production left in the tank. Don't get me wrong, even in an off-year Albert could put up some numbers, but I doubt that he will be worth $25 millon a season by 2021. It also means the Cards can do a lot with the freed-up cash they have now.

A ten year contract is a long time at that age. You are right. The rear side of that contract will be 4-5 years of declining numbers and a DH's job, something the NL doesn't have. And $252 million IS a lot of freed up money.:wink2: -- Al
