Selig, quite possibly the worst commissioner in the history of American Sports
Rats! Now the Marlins have corralled Mark Buehrle, the pitcher that the Nats wanted so badly. Time for Plan B, (Oswalt). -- Al
This is tragic. Pujols in an Angel's uniform or any other uniform than the Cards, is just wrong. Where's the loyalty? As Brad said, how much money is enough? I think that a 10 year contract for $220 million is EXTREMELY generous. But an additional $40 million was apparently too much to say no to. Too bad. -- AlCardinals team site is reporting Albert Pujols has signed with the Angels as of last night. Terms of the deal appear to be 10-years, $260 million and no trade clause. Sad to see such an iconic guy leave the city where he has been the face of the team for so long. Cards offered him $220 for 10 years, so I guess the extra cash was the thing.....

Hot Stove now reporting that the Angels have also signed CJ Wison to a 5 year deal. The Rangers are going to have some competition. -- Al
So now you've got five legit teams in the AL; Rangers, Angels, Tigers, Rays and Yankees fighting for four playoff spots.
The rest of the teams might as well pack it in..............
George,
Your Red Sox have as good a chance as any of these five teams once their injury problems get squared away.
A ten year contract is a long time at that age. You are right. The rear side of that contract will be 4-5 years of declining numbers and a DH's job, something the NL doesn't have. And $252 million IS a lot of freed up money.:wink2: -- AlI will be honest, as a Cardinals fan, I feel torn on the issue of Albert. On one hand, he was such an amazing player and positive clubhouse presence that it is tough to see him go. His production will certainly be missed and it would have been nice to see such an iconic 'modern' player show the team loyalty for his career.
However, I also don't think there are 10 years of All-Star production left in the tank. Don't get me wrong, even in an off-year Albert could put up some numbers, but I doubt that he will be worth $25 millon a season by 2021. It also means the Cards can do a lot with the freed-up cash they have now.
