ESPN reporting the prosecutors want Bonds to serve 15 months. The NYY's have resigned Fred Garcia to a 1 year deal and the Cards got Furcal for a 2 year deal. -- Al
Well, I guess the courts really socked it to Bonds, house arrest and probation, after he appeals the decision and if he losses the appeal. Hard time but he deserves every minute of it.:rolleyes2: I suppose the real punishment lies in the destruction of his reputation and the possible damage to his HOF chances. -- Al

I see that the Mets have gotten a closer-type from the Blue Jays, Frank Francisco and that Rollins has re-upped with the Phillies. Sorry to see Cuddyer leave the Twins after 11 years to go to Colorado. -- Al

Not much going on for the O's or Nats right now. They both appear to be sitting on their hands right now. I thought the Nats were serious about getting the last pieces (centerfield, veteran starting pitcher) for the team, but they let themselves get outbid for Buerhle and just don't appear to be doing anything. Hope both teams get moving soon. -- Al

Well, wouldn't you just know it. I post the above earlier today and the Nats proceed to make a liar out of me by trading for Oakland LHP Gio Gonzalez this afternoon. The Nats got the rising 25 year old 16 game winner for 4 minor leaguers (although 3 of them were top prospects) and it seems a good deal for the Nats. He has been quite good the last 2 seasons, going 15-9 and 16-12, pitching 200 innings each season and posing ERA's of 3.23 and 3.12. He gives the Nats a good, young, veteran anchor for their younger, promising pitchers such as Jordan Zimmerman, Stephen Strasburg, and steady vet LHP John Lannan. It is a promising move and a winner, I hope. -- Al

It really looks like the NL East is going to be the toughest division in baseball.

Looks like the Cardinals just picked up Carlos Beltran for a two-year deal. It seems they are adding another big bat to the lineup, now that Albert has gone. While Beltran is no Pujols, he could be a big contributor. By signing Beltran, I think the team is hoping for some more veteran magic like Berkman had last year.

Must be payback for him whiffing against the Cards five years ago :wink2:

All quiet on the Prince Fielder front. Teams scared to commit to him for a long term contract because of his size or the money it will take, or both? RedSox added bull-pen help with Andrew Bailey and Mark Melancon. The NYY's have signed ex-Red Sox Okajima to a minor league contract. -- Al

Apparently after Beltran got his deal from the Cards, he tried to get the Yankees to match, but they declined.

I'm glad to see neither the Red Sox or the Yankees are throwing money around this off season, let the small market teams spend like sailors on shore leave..........

The Cubs are apparently unloading problem child Carlos Zambrano to the Marlins. A fresh start or just moving a cancer to another location? -- Al

Barry Larkin is the only inductee in this years HOF class. Congrats, Barry. -- Al

Saw the list of those who are eligible next year, with Bonds, Sosa and the Texas Con Man, aka, Roger Clemens leading the list; no, no and NO, none of them will get in.

Bagwell was eligible this year but did not get in either, another product of the juice era who won't get in.

Yes sir, there will be some chatting in regards to next years players. I don't see any of them getting in either. How can they be voted in while Rose still languishes? You keep one out, you have to keep them all out. -- Al

I'm with you and George 100%. Frankly, I wish MLB had a commissioner with the stones to decree no one either admitting to (A-Rod, Giambi, McGuirre), testing positive for (Manny, Ortiz, Palmiero, Sosa, countless others) or criminally convicted in relation to steroids (Bonds, soon to be Clemens) is eligible for the hall of fame and these players statistics will be stricken from the MLB record book.

The Hall of Fame is a separate independent entity from MLB and Selig theoretically doesn't have the authority to decide who is or is not eligible for consideration.

However, MLB has a list of permanently ineligible people (to participate in baseball activities), which includes Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson, among others. The Hall of Fame has voted to ban those on the list from induction.

Interesting fact that I never have put any thought into analyzing, but if one takes the 3 most high-profile, all-time, baseball hitting stats; total hits, total home runs, batting average, one comes up with this: the leading hit maker, Pete Rose, is banned from baseball and the HOF; the leading home run hitter, (and 4th on the all-time RBI list, as well), Barry Bonds, is under a cloud and could end up in the same boat as Rose; and for hitting average, the third highest average ever belongs to Joe Jackson, another baseball piriah banned from baseball and the HOF. I find it interesting, and kind of tragic, that 3 of baseball's all time achievers are cheaters. -- Al

There have been attempts to have Jackson restored. He was illiterate and taken advantage of by Comiskey (White Sox owner) and thus easy peduncle gamblers. Allegedly, he didn't know what he was getting involved with when the Series was thrown. There seem to be enough questions to warrant a second look but I think MLB has dragged its feet on the matter.

Hi Guys,

As long as Selig is in charge things will stay the same. He is worthless and should have been replaced a long time ago. Maybe once he is gone they will relook some of these cases. As for the issue of steroids I agree that the ones who have done it and been caught need to be put in the hall of shame.

This should have said "prey for" :redface2:
