Baseball 2013 (1 Viewer)

I didn't stay up until the end either. When I saw the score this morning, my reaction -- as well as many other Mets -- was how Beltran struck out looking with the bases loaded in 2006. That sticks in the craws of many. Most logically realize that he had a good Mets career and hit in the clutch many a time but that moment is the memory that Mets fans have of Beltran's career, as unfair as that may be.

Yes, baseball is a different animal than other sports but all sports seem to have those teams that are terrible in the regular season but wake up in the playoffs and win out. That's a function of the playoff system in all sports. Prior to 1969 that could not have happened in baseball but with the playoff systems that we now have, that's the reality.

I know what bothers you: the Giants winning two years ago with a 9-7 record. Can't say I blame you for feeling the way you do.

Embarrassed to say I couldn't make the end of the game. Threw in the towel after 11 innings. It was a good one and I enjoyed what I watched. As I slip deeper into geezerdom, I realize that 8:30 or 9:00 start times are sending the games too late for my tired butt to stay awake for, especially if extra innings are involved. Once the clock strikes midnight, its snoozeville for me. :redface2: -- Al
I feel for you al, after spending most of my life on east coast time it has been very strange to watch 10 am football, or 5:30 Monday nite kickoff :)..even though I have lived out West now for 11 years its strange, but I do not miss the 11-12 pm finishes that's for sure...Sammy

Where is the " hate this post " button when you need it. Should have one installed...Michael

You can always tell a Yankees fan ..... but you can't tell 'em much! ^&grin

I know what bothers you: the Giants winning two years ago with a 9-7 record.

Bingo.

It's just a matter of time before an 8-8, 7-9 team wins one.

And it will probably be the Giants who do it.

If it's going to happen, this is probably the year as they are 0-6. I think the Seahawks won their division about three or four years ago with a 7-9 record.

Yes they did, their reward was a home playoff game and they beat the Saints.

Then they went to Chicago and got demolished, the Bears hosted the NFCCG that year and lost to the wild card Packers, who went on to win the Super Bowl.

Ok, heading out to the game now, seats in the upper right field skyboxes, so behave around here while I'm gone...............

Terrific pitching duel won by St. Loo 1-0. Two great games so far and it's beginning to look like a possible replay of either the 1967 WS or the 1968 WS, if the Cards can close out LA. This series has been a fine example of playoff baseball, where pitching comes to the fore. The Cards win this game and only manage 2 hits. Hope the AL series is as well played as this one has been. -- Al

Well that was a fun night at the ballpark.

The Red Sox had better get used to seeing little to no fastballs, nothing but junk, junk, junk last night and they kept chasing it. They'll see plenty the next two games, but catching up to them will be another story.

And STOP whining already over every called strike three.

And Joe West is beyond terrible behind the plate.

Sanchez was very good; you know it's not your night when Al New Mexico, who sucks, comes in and is lights out, as was the entire bullpen, including that high wire act closer of theirs.

Drew got a meatball to hit and just missed it, from my angle when it went off the bat, I thought it had a chance to get out, but it died. And the kid in the last at bat got a bigger meatball, a hanging slider, but popped it up, so they had their chances.

And who gets the game winning RBI; the cheater, who was suspended but is allowed to come back for the playoffs.

Great Bud, you really are a brilliant guy, just brilliant.

Now they get Scherzer and Verlander.

Awesome.

If they lose tonight, they'll get swept sure as ****.

Hey bats; wake the @#$% UP.

Luckily I passed on game two tickets as I'm going to Foxboro to see that massacre in person, final score will probably be 56-21 Aints................................

I know George isn't happy with the outcome, but that was a fantastic baseball game last night. Kept watching the hitless innings roll by, counting Sanchez's pitches and realized there was no way he gets past 6 innings, if he makes it that far. Thought that the Sox would get to the bullpen and win the game. Thought so down to the last out. Both the AL and NL series have been a pitching fans dream. It just doesn't get any better from a pure pitching art point of view. As George said, now the Sox have Scherzer and Verlander to deal with. Obviously the Sox must beat one of them. Duh. I'm betting they get to Scherzer. And George is right, West is terrible. I watched him in several games this season and he was bad, both behind the plate and in the field. I think the Cards have a real winner in this kid Wacha. I have seen him start 3 games, (2 in post-season) and he has dominated in each. Dodgers have thrown their best pitchers at the Cards and trail 0-2 in games. Now the Cards throw their ace Wainwright and the Dodgers had better find a key hit or two or this series could go sweep city without too much effort.
Did I mention that I love well pitched, low scoring games? :wink2:^&grin -- Al

It's hard to believe that the Red Sox are getting no hit again tonight. Tigers pitching is good but not this good.

Ortiz. What can you say? He is da' man. I was wrong about the Sox getting to Sherzer but at least they got to the bullpen this time. That's what happens when you play roulette with pitchers. -- Al

Man, what a good day to be a New England sports fan, pulled off two killer wins today...Sammy

2 miracles in Boston in 1 day. Who would have thunk it.

A great day for you. Were you killing yourself about not going to game 2?

No, went to the Patriots game and never would have made it to the park in time for the game; if it was an either/or, still would have preferred the Patriots game, wow was that incredible.

We've got an embarassment of riches in this city when it comes to sports, we've been spoiled rotten for 13 years.

I can't think of another city who's had a 13 year run like this.

Unreal.
