He's from the same neighborhood as Manny Ramirez is from, Washington Heights, I am sure our own Ed Curiel knows about this kid as he's also from that area in New York.

Ed has his screwed on strait having gone to Harvard, that is for sure.................

Being from the same neighborhood doesn't make you the same person. From what I have read, getting an education was important to him (he was studying economics) but not enough to stay there all four years. Maybe he didn't like the deal the Red Sox were offering. I think a lot of athletes do that: go to college when they don't get the money they want.

Nashville and Vanderbilt were great places to be. I enjoyed my time there.

What same person?

My comment was he's from the same neighborhood as Manny was from, that is all, pretty sure Ed is from that area too, almost certain Ed went to the same high school as Manny did.

Through 4 innings and Verlander has been untouchable. And he has a lead. Oakland is in trouble. -- Al

Verlander has a 3-0 lead after 6 and has allowed 0 hits. He is really sharp tonight. -- Al

Tigers vs Red Sox for the AL pennant. Verlander shut down the A's on 2 hits through 8 innings and got a 3-0 win. About what you would expect for Verlander. Now we have about what most people expected with the Tigers getting this far but I am still astounded at what Boston has managed on what was to be a rebuilding year. Congratulations to both teams for doing what they have done. Verlander and Scherzer should give the Tigers the advantage but they don't line up for optimum starts and something tells me Boston has the baseball god's eye this year.:wink2: -- Al

Boy did the A's blow their chance to finish the Tigers. Had 2 leads and couldn't hold them, then loaded the bases with no out in the 8th and couldn't score as Scherzer did a big boy job of pitching out of the jam. A's gonna regret this one. -- Al
And regret this one BIG TIME. -- Al

I do like the final four, great match-ups and plenty of big names to watch. As a baseball fan I am hoping for a Dodgers and Red Sox World Series. It is not very often that two teams who were directly invloved with each other in a franchise changing trade would meet for a championship. However, as a Giants fan I hope the Cardinals sweep the Dodgers.

Where is the " hate this post " button when you need it. Should have one installed...Michael

George I won't say to much here because I'm a bit superstitious when it comes to the playoffs but I have a feeling that this series is gonna go the distance. I'm thinking a game 6 for sure if not a game 7. Regardless my Tigs should come out on top^&grin. Oh my did I say that:rolleyes2: Ok well it's back to total and complete silence for another week. Good luck.

This is going to be a great series, two best teams in the AL squaring off.

Going to be an uphill battle to beat the Tigers, you've got Verlander and Scherzer going twice, games 2/3 and 6/7.

The Sox have to win the other 3 and figure out a way to win 1 of those 4.

Piece of cake..........:rolleyes2:

George:

I am pulling for the Sox, might not be a piece of cake but if anyone can do it they can. Like you said these are the two best teams in the AL, so anything can happen.

Having attended Vanderbilt for a Masters program, assuming he took advantage of all that Vandy has to offer, he made the right decision and seems like he had his head on straight.

Sorry the Pirates couldn't make it through but hopefully they can build on this season.

Brad,
We are just happy to have made it back in contention. Man, what a fun season, thoroughly enjoyed it, but I knew we were in trouble when we didn't close the show in Game 4. Oh well, looking forward to next year!

Baseball is a 162 game/7 month meatgrinder, when you get to the playoffs, you need to take advantage as you never know if you'll get back.

It's not like NFL football where 10-6 and 9-7 teams win Super Bowls by getting hot at the right time, you need to grind out at bats, grind out runs and hits and innings, win a 3 out of 5 and then 4 out of 7 games twice, no luck or lucky bounces on punts or blown coverages allowing miracle TD's, the best teams usually move on and face each other in the World Series; this year with either the Sox/Tigers or Cardinals/Dodgers, you're getting the best teams fighting for the WS title.

Not that you can really compare Baseball and football, but baseball has had it's share of 9-7 teams; the 87 Twins and 2006 Cards come to mind (as well as the 73 Mets on the losing side).

I see Beltran hit the game winning hit. Where was he in 2006? :(

At any rate, it's already turning into a great series.

Embarrassed to say I couldn't make the end of the game. Threw in the towel after 11 innings. It was a good one and I enjoyed what I watched. As I slip deeper into geezerdom, I realize that 8:30 or 9:00 start times are sending the games too late for my tired butt to stay awake for, especially if extra innings are involved. Once the clock strikes midnight, its snoozeville for me. :redface2: -- Al

Ok, that's four examples from the past 40 years, not to mention with the wild card set up, there is now a play in game plus an extra series thrown in which makes it more difficult for lucky teams to get to the WS; I can give you 7 examples from the last 10 Super Bowls of teams getting there who simply got hot for a couple of games, had some lucky bounces, injuries to their opponent or other suck flukes play into them getting to and winning a Super Bowl.

It's apples to hand grenades.

Baseball is a different animal.

Wait; you mean Puig DIDN'T get the winning hit?

MLB needs to investigate this immediately and find out how that's even possible.
