Al:

I remember the days of no ESPN. I got most, if not all of my out of town scores/info from the newspaper. I always loved the game of the week, Joe Garagiola and Vin Scully were the broadcasters. It was fun to see other teams play along with the healthy dose of Giants baseball that I received locally. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of the Giants, but I am an even bigger fan of baseball itself.

Growing up in Iowa as a Brewers fan I had to rely on the box score in my morning newspaper because, frankly, who cares about the Brew Crew (dare I say the 'best record in baseball Brew Crew!!'???)

Everyone is going crazy about Tanaka and I'm sure he's good but it's like watching a ballplayer in September: no one really knows him and his tendencies. If he can be this good when he's been around the league at least once, then we can talk.

Pete, a quick look at the Brewers presents an impressive team, driven by outstanding pitching. The starting pitchers have 16 Quality starts in 21 games, two 3 game winners and three 2 game winners, and a staff ERA under 3. Pretty darn good. And a 9-1 record on the road doesn't hurt.:wink2: The Brew Crew is looking good. -- Al

Matt Harvey has caused a small furor. On the sixth month anniversary of his surgery, he tweeted a photo of him giving the middle finger. The photo was ultimately removed and he closed his Twitter account. Nothing good comes of Twitter in my view. Harvey wasn't apologetic and can't see what the furor is about. These guys just don't get it. He has said he wants to be like Derek Jeter. He's not even close.

Nats stunk up the ballpark for the 2nd night in a row but at least I can say I saw Pujols hit #499 and #500. -- Al

Al:

Sorry about the loss but that was a true class act by the crowd after Pujols hit #500. The standing ovation was one thing, but they essentially asked for a curtain call and once it was answered the cheers grew to a fever pitch. That was the epitome of class.

So after Pineda gets away with pine tar on his hand in a game vs the Sox at Yankee Stadium, he does it again tonight.

He gets whacked around in the first inning, so what does he do; he smears pin tar not on his hand, but his neck, gets caught and tossed.

Funny because MLB warned him about it the last time, guess the warning didn't stick..............:rolleyes2:

Not sure what was more comical; seeing the look on his face (BUSTED!!) or watching Giradi trying to rip the camera off its stand that's set up in each teams dugout; don't blame the camera Joe, blame that crooked hat wearing fleabrain of a pitcher of yours for being dumb as a box of rocks.

Looks like another chapter in the rivalry has been written.......................

Pineda did it again? Against the same team that he was accused of doing it to before? Seriously? Stupid people aren't that stupid.

Payback is a *****...Wait till most of the RS starters start getting challenged. pick any moment in a game to disrupt their timing. :p Michael

Stupid is as stupid does; looks like his magical season is about to end.

Lose the pine tar and straiten your hat you clown.

He also had pine tar on his hand in his next start vs Toronto after the start vs the Red Sox.

The next time one of them gets caught with pine tar smeared all over their hand, feel free to challenge them.

The guy is dead from the neck up, which fittingly is where he smeared it this time.

After looking and playing like poop for 26 of the 27 innings in their 3 game series with the Angels, the Nats pulled of a minor miracle in the 9th inning of tonight's final game. Went in trailing 4-1 and looking totally dead but somehow scored 4 runs to win and salvage the last game of the series. Nats are having real problems right now. They aren't hitting, they aren't fielding, and their starting pitching is underperforming. A bad combination for a team with such high expectations. The Nat's have committed 24 errors in 22 games and allowed 19 unearned runs as a result. Maybe tonight's miracle will help them shake off the doldrums and start playing real baseball. At least I hope so.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Watching Giradi in his post game interview was painful; his job as the skipper of the MFY's is clearly wearing on him, he looks like my late uncle did after being on Iwo Jima for 5 weeks in 1945................

Just got home and caught the highlites or should I say (low) lites:) what an idiot, at least next time try and conceal it a little better...Sammy

They asked him in his post game interview "So was that pine tar on your hand the last time you started vs the Red Sox?"...........his reply was "I no want to talk about the past."........way to man up there chief...........^&confuse

Orioles got themselves to .500 tonight by outscoring Toronto. The O's starting pitching is still a worry to me as they have now gone 7 straight games without a QS and only once in that span did the starter even get past the 6th inning (and that by 1 out). The O's only have 5 QS in their 20 games and it doesn't take a genius to see that the bullpen is going to get worn out at this rate. Buck is going to end up with a merry-go-round between the majors and minors with his bullpen, just like last year. An O's starter has only gotten through 8 innings twice, both by Tillman. Norris went 7 innings, once, and that's it. Every other start has fallen below that level. If this team is going to contend, the pitchers have to step up and find a way to pitch more innings. The hitters can't do it all. -- Al

In this kind of weather most pitchers do it. They're just a little less obvious about it. Even Victorino admitted this. In his case people will be watching him after he finishes his suspension so he may not be able to do it for awhile.

Ok, fair enough, no need to talk about the past. Instead let's talk about the future as in your upcoming suspension.

Listening to Sterling and Waldman on MLB.com this morning as they spoke about the ejection during the game was classic; "Farrell just opened up a can of worms with that." What can of worms, now Giradi is going to do what, call time out and have the home plate ump check every Red Sox starter going forward?

What is Waldmans role anyway other than being Sterlings eyes? Is he legally blind or what? What a grade A hack he is, insufferable to listen to.................

So Pineda gets 10 games for his penalty. I have never understood giving a starting pitcher a suspension that doesn't specifically address his starts. 10 games means Pineda misses 2 starts. What's the point? A CF or 3B or even a relief pitcher gets a 10 game suspension and he misses 10 games. A starting pitcher only goes every 5th day so a 10 game suspension is kind of useless in terms of being an object lesson and really only effects a team in the heat of a pennant race. 10 games in May is what might be called a vacation. Dumb player, dumb suspension, dumb rules. -- Al

Its going to be funny watching Buckholtz, who illegally has a large quantity of baby oil in his hair every time he pitches, get tossed out of every game he pitches against the Yankees from now on. Every pitcher in the league uses pine tar or some other substance on cold nights, George. The only reason your manager didn't raise it the first time, despite the fact that everyone knew about it from the second inning on, was the Buckhotz was pitching that night, and he needs the crap in his hair every time he pitches. Now the gloves are off, and remember, when you are cursing some other manager getting Buckholtz tossed, that your manager was the first to rat out another pitcher.
