I see where Clayton Kershaw, the Dodger ace on a staff of aces, has now stretched his scoreless inning streak to 36. Creeping on on Don Drysdale and then Orel Hershiser. How come it's always the Dodgers with these long scoreless streaks? The Dodgers now have an 11 game winner, Greinke, a 10 game winner, Kershaw, a 9 game winner, Ryu, and an 8 game winner in Haren. Not a bad rotation when you throw in Beckett and his 5 wins. Detroit has an outstanding rotation, and I think that Washington does too, but I'm thinking the Dodgers are tops. Detroit has Porcello with 11 wins, Scherzer with 10, Verlander with 7 and Sanchez with 5. Not a bad 1-2 punch, but Verlander is having a down year and the 5th starter, Smyly is 4-8 and is a might inconsistent.
The second half will be interesting to see if the Dodgers can stay a such a high level and whether or not the Giants can rally and get back on track. The giants have the rotation to catch the Dodgers. Hudson, Bumgarner, Vogelsong, Lincecum, and Cain are just about as good as the Dodger crew, although their numbers don't currently reflect it and Cain has been a puzzle. And I still think the Nats rotation can give anyone a run for their money but the team has been up and down all year and has to get consistent to be able to reach their potential. -- Al
