Have to give Cubs fans credit; for a fan base of a team that blows, they travel well; today I met Miss Tiffany in Boston for lunch at Fanuel Hall and they were everywhere, waddling around in their Cub hats and XXXXL tee shirts.

And props to the guy who was looking at Miss Tiffany and not where he was walking; he creamed a lamp post but good, hope it was worth it..............:wink2:

George:

As you are an eyewitness was it worth it?????

The Giants just can't get it together, losing 8 of 10 with Posey even striking out today with the bases loaded. Tied with the Dodgers is not where I expected to be on July 4th after that amazing start.

The Giants have had a rough month but at least they are still at the top of the division. Plenty of time to catch fire again. Better to have a down month now than in August or later. The all-star break is coming and then they can regroup. -- Al

July 4th and O's are in first!!!!!! hard to believe with the up and down line ups that have been thrown out there by Buck this would be the case, but I'll gladly take it, long live the 3 run homer and some good pitching :)...Sammy

Sammy, I have a nomination for most valuable Oriole, to go along with Cruz and Jones, and his name is Steven Pierce. This guy has come out of nowhere to be the current hottest hitter for the O's. He plays LF and has just grabbed the spot and made it his because of his bat. With 157 Ab's, he is hitting .338, with 10 Hr's, 14 doubles, and 29 RBI's. Within the O's organization, LF has been reserved for Nolan Riemold for years. Problem is, Riemold was never able to stay healthy enough to entrench himself there. From 2010 through 2013, Riemold only played 182 games. He recently finished his latest rehab and was designated for assignment since there is currently nowhere for him to fit on the O's. It appears Riemold's door of opportunity with the O's has shut, at least as long as Pierce continues to play well. Such is baseball. The door shuts for one, opens for another. Pierce has been a very pleasant surprise. -- Al

I'm hoping your team can keep it up Sammy so I can come down to Camden Yards and watch the Angels play them in the playoffs.

Three AL West teams are playing great ball right now and if this keeps up, both wild card teams will come from the West, which means the winners of the AL Central and East will get in but nobody else.

The Tigers have righted their ship, great starting pitching will do that for you, best staff in baseball by far.

What will hurt the O's is they have no ace, no stopper, no guy you can give the ball to every fifth day and pencil in either a win or a close game

People laughed at Seattle when they signed Cano; who's laughing now, plus they have a true ace in king Felix.

We'll see what happens, 7 teams battling for 5 spots............

Despite my woes about the Giants (as Al rightfully pointed out they are not woes, we should all have such problems) this season has been great. May the best teams win but I am holding out for another Bay Bridge series, after all a new Bay Bridge has been built since the '89 series. Then again I do hope we repeat it without the earthquake!!!!!

Peachy news for the contenders in the AL West this AM. Oakland has a deal in place with the Cubs that sends Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hamels to the Athletics for SS Russell, OF McKinney, P Straily, and a top prospect. This deal really solidifies Oakland's rotation and signals that Billy Beane is big time serious about winning the WS this year. LA, Seattle, your move. -- Al

I see where Clayton Kershaw, the Dodger ace on a staff of aces, has now stretched his scoreless inning streak to 36. Creeping on on Don Drysdale and then Orel Hershiser. How come it's always the Dodgers with these long scoreless streaks? The Dodgers now have an 11 game winner, Greinke, a 10 game winner, Kershaw, a 9 game winner, Ryu, and an 8 game winner in Haren. Not a bad rotation when you throw in Beckett and his 5 wins. Detroit has an outstanding rotation, and I think that Washington does too, but I'm thinking the Dodgers are tops. Detroit has Porcello with 11 wins, Scherzer with 10, Verlander with 7 and Sanchez with 5. Not a bad 1-2 punch, but Verlander is having a down year and the 5th starter, Smyly is 4-8 and is a might inconsistent.
The second half will be interesting to see if the Dodgers can stay a such a high level and whether or not the Giants can rally and get back on track. The giants have the rotation to catch the Dodgers. Hudson, Bumgarner, Vogelsong, Lincecum, and Cain are just about as good as the Dodger crew, although their numbers don't currently reflect it and Cain has been a puzzle. And I still think the Nats rotation can give anyone a run for their money but the team has been up and down all year and has to get consistent to be able to reach their potential. -- Al

Angels win on a walk off by Trouty.

However, they need a reliable closer. That is their Achilles Heel.

Looks like the A's are all in to win it this year as one of those pitchers is a free agent after this year, the other next year. Theo sold high on those two pitchers, the A's gave up quite a lot to get them for sure.

Quite a talent haul in return for the Cubs, they're right on track to win a World Series this century.

When Theo went there did he tell management he's got a ten year plan in mind by the way?

Halos have just picked up two pitchers from the Diamondbacks. They are going for it. Now, to find a closer.

O's managed a split in a day-nighter with the Red Sox, thanks mainly to an untouchable bullpen and Mr. Cruz in winning the second game. My big question right now is what to do about Chris Davis. He has become a black hole in the batting order. He has been on a continuing downward spiral since May. He batted .209 in May, .175 in June, and is hitting .105 so far in July. His current season average is .201 with no real positives within it. He has 1 HR and 5 RBI's in his last 59 AB's and the strikeouts are climbing, at about 50% in July. He has not quite reached the level of automatic out, but the opposition doesn't really fear him anymore as they just go after him knowing he will swing at about anything at this point. Maybe Davis can regroup and get his head straight during the All-star break. Buck is going to have to do something if Davis' BA continues to fall. -- Al

Angels had a monster 7th inning: two 2 run HRs by Freese and Pujols and a 3 run blast by C. J. Cron.

No one wants to hear it, but can we see Brady Anderson in him...As much as any fan of any team wants to believe baseball is drug free, the player went from a very average HR/RBI guy to superman with one monster year..With this free fall, does seem like withdrawal...And I would question any of my own Yankees, if there was the same out of no where performance..God, I wish we were on some drugs just to win a few games! Michael

Final tally in the 7th: 8 runs on 73 pitches thrown by Astros pitching, with 13 ABs and the Angels left the bases loaded!
