Baseball 2014 (3 Viewers)

Looks like the A's are all in to win it this year as one of those pitchers is a free agent after this year, the other next year. Theo sold high on those two pitchers, the A's gave up quite a lot to get them for sure.

Quite a talent haul in return for the Cubs, they're right on track to win a World Series this century.

When Theo went there did he tell management he's got a ten year plan in mind by the way?

You always get the feeling that Billy Beane knows something other GM's don't. He would not give up those prospects unless he was sure of something. The question is what?

No one wants to hear it, but can we see Brady Anderson in him...As much as any fan of any team wants to believe baseball is drug free, the player went from a very average HR/RBI guy to superman with one monster year..With this free fall, does seem like withdrawal...And I would question any of my own Yankees, if there was the same out of no where performance..God, I wish we were on some drugs just to win a few games! Michael
Brady Anderson had that one monster, career year, in '96 and then fell back to normal numbers (for him) after that. There was no build up and no abnormal fall off, 1996 just happened. His numbers were very consistent, both before and after. Davis is suffering a huge falloff in his production. I don't know whether this is a drug thing or not but it sure seems like a totally lost hitter, which happens to lots of players. There was an indication of 2013 in the year Davis had in 2012, a one year build-up, sort of, and he had showed the promise of such numbers in 2008 and 2009, his first two years, but 2013 still was a surprise. This year's fall off is just as big a surprise. Sure hope the solution shows up. -- Al

Maybe Cruz can give him some of whatever he's on; where would the O's be without him, basically a guy nobody wanted, signed off the scrap heap and he's got 27 home runs already.

Baseball really is a joke.

Went to a block party/cook out/fireworks show yesterday, what a beautiful day considering the day before I was getting ready to build an arc; one of my friends sons goes to UConn and invited some of his college buddies and one of them was wearing an O's cap; I wanted to strap him to one of the fireworks and shoot him back to Connecticut...............the rest of them had Sox caps on, so they can stay, eat, drink and be merry all they want..............what a feast; burgers, dogs, potato and pasta salad, grilled chicken, ribs, pulled pork sandwiches, I think I gained 5 pounds yesterday, but it was worth it......................

Yankees just acquired Brandon McCarthy from Arizona.
Well, he has an arm and will eat some innings but he's not a solution to their rotation problems. He is a so-so starter with very mediocre career numbers. -- Al

The prevailing wisdom seems to be Blue Jays, Cards, Mariners or Dodgers.

Would love to see him land either in St Louis or Seattle; if it's Seattle, good Lord would the west be stacked.

If it's St. Louis, imagine him vs NL line ups with no DH and the pitcher hitting, he'd be quite a force.

He's the poster boy for a tomato can; that said, we all know now that he's with the MFY;s, he'll turn into Cy McCarthy.........

He'd look good in black and orange with a big bird on his cap.:wink2: Not much chance, same division and all, but we do have the bait to tempt them with. -- Al

He'd look good in black and orange with an SF on his hat too. Not going to happen for the Giants either. Payroll is already huge and they would have to demote one of the 5 starters they have.

:(

OK Al, the O's start a 4 game swing with Washington on Monday, I know you'll be wearing some black and orange those days :), should be an interesting series with first 2 games in DC the other 2 in Balmer, last year in this series Washington owned the O's like a pair of dirty socks, so hoping revenge is a dish served up by the birds this year.

I see Buck sat C. Davis today, a few weeks ago I was totally against it,.. now...not as much, as others have mentioned his struggles I can only hope he shakes it and finds his swing again, I don't care if it's only singles, doubles etc, just hit the dang ball and lessen the strikeouts, as the Orioles find themselves in decent shape in the standings they just can not afford dead weight in the line up with alot of ball left to play and some really hard series coming up, I think he will shake it, he's to good of a player to stay in this dry spell forever...Sammy

Sammy, this is the series I dread. Both my teams going at each other while they are heavily engaged in a pennant race, meaning neither can afford to lose. Not a real fan of inter-league play because of this.:rolleyes2: I guess the best I can do is root for the home team as they play, O's in Balmer and Nats in DC and hope that Toronto and Atlanta hit cold streaks for at least the next 4 games. I really hate to see these 2 clubs play each other. Not sure what I am going to do when they play each other in the WS.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

Al:

I am not a big fan of inter-league play either. There are plenty of rivalries in both divisions already.

Well, Garrett Richards got hosed; left off the All Star Team. He's only among the top 3 or 4 best pitchers this year in the AL.

Timmy L should buy them all dinner and tickets to the show!{sm3} -- Al

Al:

Watching a few of the recent games in the Giants/Pares series has been eye opening to say the least. San Diego isn't just bad, they don't seem to even care. Their victory celebrations are equal to my joy at getting a short line at the grocery store and their reactions to loses are even quieter. They don't hustle and their fans seem resigned to losing.

Jason, that is a franchise that has always seemed on the outs. I know they have had some success, but it has been few and far between. I think the franchise might be a little cursed from the word go, what with the very ugly uniform choices that have been made on a regular basis. And then there is the curse of Preston Gomez, the Padres first manager. He yanked a pitcher, Clay Kirby, (a local DC area product, and thus a favorite), who had a no-hitter going in July of 1970. Kirby had thrown 8 innings of no-hit ball, but trailed 1-0 because of control problems. Gomez batted for Kirby in the bottom of the 8th. Thus the no-hit attempt was lost to Kirby. A no-hitter would have done the franchise no end of good, but the opposite happened when Gomez threw away the chance. The Padres lost 99 games that season, and, along with the bad publicity, Gomez doomed the Padres in terms of no-hitters. I think they have 28 0ne-hitters but have never thrown a no-hitter. The Padres franchise has always seemed a bit off center to me. -- Al
