It is possible that NY could field an infield of A-Rod (38 y.o.), Jeter (39 y.o.), Roberts (36 y.o.), and Teixeira (33 y.o.), with an outfield of Ellsbury (30 y.o.), Soriano (37 y.o.), and Suzuki (40 y.o.). Throw in the DH, Hafner at 36 y.o., and CC pitching (33 y.o.) and the youngest player on the field could be the catcher, McCann, at 29 y.o.

Al,
After looking at that potential opening day line up for the MFY's, I really think you're selling them short, I think they have the potential to win between 95 and 100 games.

If this was 2006.

I stand by my assessment of Damon's Yankee career... Michael

Hoping the Orioles can get him as we are going to need another pitcher with Johnson gone...Sammy
Agreed. I know it's still a long way to spring training but I'm a little perplexed and concerned that the O's have done nothing about their starting pitching. -- Al

The O's deal with Balfour has been withdrawn. Whatever the problem was, it was discovered in the physical. O's back to square one on replacing Johnson at closer. -- Al

Salary insanity continues to grow and thrive in MLB as Texas signs Choo for 7 years @ $130 million. Why is everyone going to Korea to play ball? -- Al

That line up is murderers row, but if anything has taught us, World Series are won in October, not in the off season................

So true. Last pre-season, I figured Toronto had bought the WS title. Then along came that regular season with 162 games.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Texas is a weird state (trust me), the Rangers could go 162-0 and most Texans would still care more about their local high-school football team's offseason.

Sad day all around. The O's have lost a member of their family as Paul Blair, 8x Gold-Glove winner in centerfield, passed away at age 69. He was the best outfielder the O's ever had and helped win the '66 and '70 WS for the O's. RIP, Mr. Blair. -- Al

Hi Al, was about to post regarding his passing. It is a sad day. One of the players from "the glory yrs." RIP with Earl W, Moe D and Mark B. Chris

Terp/Al:

From the NY Times obituary:

"Based on range factor — defined as putouts plus assists per nine innings — Blair was over the course of his career superior as a center fielder to both Willie Mays and Ken Griffey Jr."

'Nuff said. RIP

Thanks for posting this, Jason. I hadn't seen that stat. Blair seemed like he got to everything. High praise in the obit, but earned. -- Al

The HOF has spoken: Maddux, Glavine and Frank Thomas.

Craig Biggio (who I don't think belongs) missed by two votes. Piazza got 62% (out of the required 75%), a slight improvement from last year.

They may have trouble getting in next year as you have Pedro Martinez, John Smoltz and some other worthy candidate whose name escapes me up for election.

Well deserved. What was the final vote for Jack Morris? -- Al

It went down from 67% to 61% in his last year of eligibility. I guess he has to go through the Veterans Committee now.

I know that most people look at stats when it comes to HOF elegiblty but in his case you really need to look at the intangibles. I think he belongs in the Hall of Fame.
