Baseball 2015 (2 Viewers)

I wish my Rangers could play every series on the road atm . From the worst start ever to having the best road record currently in the MLB and catching up those pesky Astros to lead the division soon .

Some encouraging performances for the O's to grab onto over the weekend. Both struggling pitchers, Tillman and Norris, turned in good games for the Birds in their two wins. To highlight their importance to the O's all one has to do is compare Tillman and Norris' numbers between last year and this year. The O's are currently 4 games under .500 @ 26-30, with Tillman and Norris having a combined 5-11 record. Last season at this time the two of them were a combined 10-7. They both finished big over the last part of the season, combining for a 18-7 record, mid-June through the end, finishing the season at a combined 28-14, a long way from the current record. Perhaps the weekend showings are indications that Tillman and Norris are back to form and ready to lead an O's charge from here on out. Anyway, a little consistency would be nice. :wink2: -- Al

Good friend came from Cleveland for our annual Reds game outing. Perfect weather and Cueto and the Reds blanked the Padres 4-0. Chapman made his usual 9th inning closure. Fun day. Chris

Don't think it's all pitching, although I haven't compared stats with last yr. Os are missing Cruz this yr. Chris

Completely agree, Chris. Whether they admit it or not, losing Cruz and Markakis has had a definite impact on the offense, and IMO, clubhouse leadership/morale. -- A;

Another great in Mets history: they get no hit by a rookie -- at home :redface2:

The line was a little unusual as the Mets had 3 baserunners, all HBP, no walks and 11 K's. Odd line. -- Al

Heston also struck out the final 3 batters he faced, becoming the first pitcher to seal his no-hitter in that fashion since Koufax did it in 1965.

Heck of a game. He was also the only pitcher to throw a no-no and put 3 men on base via HBP. I was impressed by the 0 walks. -- Al

It was pretty pathetic from my perspective. Of course, with no Wright, Murphy or d'Arnaud his job was a little easier. Remains to be seen whether at 27 he turns out to be something. Most don't.

Os beat Boston 5-2 with a very nice diving catch by Jones. First win at home this yr for Chen. Os are 5-1 in last six games. ^&grin Chris

For once Chen got a little run support. Jones has been heating up the last few games. -- Al

Brad:

I totally agree on both counts. The Mets were not at full strength and most aces do not get going when they are 27.

At this point it is an anomaly. I would be shocked if he turned out to be anything more than a 3-4 starter with middle relief a strong possibility.

How much longer will John Farrell last in Boston? I am hoping George can weigh in with how the locals feel about it?

Jason,

He looked good so I should give him credit. It's frustration with the terrible offensive team the front office has put together.

Looks like Mr. Harvey is still rehabbing. I think Srasburg had similar troubles after his surgery.

The fans in general have had enough, they want him gone.

So it's his fault the GM signed Ramirez and stuck him in left, a place he's never played before?
So it's his fault the GM signed Panda and he's been a disaster?
So it's his fault the GM traded for/signed a bunch of #4 and #5 starters and left him with no ace?
So it's his fault both starting catchers are out for the year with injuries and Victorino has been on the DL almost all year?
So it's his fault Ortiz and Napoli are both basically done?

Nope, none of that is his fault, but he'll be gone before July 4th.................

Sometimes things just don't work out. Boston is not the only team that has disappointed. Look at Seattle, which was a WS favorite. The Nats haven't won the WS by June, either. Bad luck, injuries, key personal having down years, it's all part of MLB every season. Lots of teams sputtering along this year, leaving a lot of possibilities if only someone gets hot. The Nats sure haven't dominated like was predicted by everyone. They had a bad April, a great May, and now they're down in June. Injuries have played a big part as 2 of the 5 super pitchers are on the DL, and injuries have prevented the Nats from putting their starting 8 on the field for most of the season. The biggest problem has been the bullpen which was blown-up for no good reason during the off-season. The youngsters meant to replace Clippard, Blevins, Detwiler, and Soriano haven't done real well and the injury to Stammen and Jannsen left the bull-pen in total disarray from which it hasn't recovered. Only the closer Storen has performed to expectations. So much for the old rule, 'If it ain't broken, don't fix it.', a rule that should have been adhered to in DC. -- Al

Al/George:

The topic came up on local sports talk in the Bay Area as it relates to the A's and Bob Melvin. One of the hosts said that if Melvin were in another city such as Boston he would have been fired already. This led to a discussion about Farrell and how much longer he might last.

O's sweep the Sawx!!!! setting up the biggest series of the year against the evil Yanks with a 4 gamer at Camden Yards, 4 out man a sweep would be delicious about now!!! not seeing a sweep but hoping we take 3 at least, not sure exactly but I think with Wieters back in the line up the O's are 6 wins of of 7 games, just say'n...Sammy

Wieters and now Riemold (he of annual hope and deep potential) back in the line-up. Tillman has won 2 in a row. I can feel Big Mo cranking up.:wink2: -- Al
