Baseball 2015 (4 Viewers)

Jason, I was looking at the listed start times. The start time for the Friday game is listed as 6pm here (3pm your time). The game on Saturday is listed as an 11am start (4th of July celebrations afterward, and all that), which will be 8am your time. Sunday's game is the ESPN game, starting at 8pm here, 5 pm you. At least these times are what show on the Nat's schedule. If the times have been changed, they have not updated them on my end. -- Al

Al:

That is my fault, the schedule I was looking at showed the games without noting what time zone they were using.

So much for kegs and eggs.

Os in first place (although currently down 1-0 in 3rd), correction, down 2-0 with Texas HR as I write this :redface2: Life as it should be! Ain't the beer cold! Chris

Now 8-1 in the 7th. Not looking good for the home boys tonight. :rolleyes2:

O's pitcher's gave up another 4 Hr's in tonight's 8-6 loss. That's 8 Hr's in the last 2 games. Not pretty. Does anyone want the AL East lead?:rolleyes2: -- Al

Might as well let Boston catch up and make it a 5 team chase...Sammy

Just wondering could we play the O's every night ? Mitch is loving it there .

File under 'Strange but true' - Cubs manager Joe Madden has channeled 'The Natural' in an attempt to end the Cub's hitting problems. He hired a hypnotist/magician in an effort to get the hits flowing. The magician, Simon, entertained with a variety of tricks. No word on whether Roy Hobbs left in disgust. -- Al

The Cubs must have caught Mets-itis. Between them, they managed 1 run and 7 hits {eek3}

If there's a bigger assclown in MLB that Madden, I'd like to meet him................Captain Smarmy.

Love the fact that the Rays are in first place without him and the Cubs are taking on water.

I had to run out on an errand at lunch and the guys on WFAN were discussing deferred compensation for baseball players because July 1 is the date when deferred comp on a lot of the contracts of retired baseball players gets paid.

Bobby Bonilla, who retired in 2001 and hasn't played for the Mets since 1999, still gets paid $1.2 million every year for the Mets and will get paid this amount annually until 2035. According to this article, http://www.businessinsider.com/mets-bobby-bonilla-deal-smart-2015-7, it's a good deal for the Mets because they were due to pay him $5.9 when they bought out the final year of his contract. Instead they agreed to pay him $1.2 million per year starting in 2011.

Apparently, his deal is hardly unique. For example Manny Ramirez will get paid $32 million by the Red Sox, starting this year, over the next 16 years. This is in addition to the approximately $8 million the Dodgers paid him at the end of June or today.

Oh, it's good to be a ball player and have a good lawyer and accountant to boot.

Baseball, go figure. Last night the Nats lose 2-1, tonight they win 2-1. Another terrific pitching duel, as was last night's, in a year that seems to have had quite a few. Gotta love the symmetry. -- Al

O's in an offensive funk. Lost 2-0 last night and 1-0 tonight. Two absolutely great starts by Gausman (0 runs) and Jimenez (1 run) gone to waste. Perhaps tomorrow will be kinder. -- Al

Al:

Great game and a solid win by the Nats.

I hate to admit it but I kind of half-smiled when Robinson hit that home run. I really do not like it when pitchers pitch around a star player, even when it is my favorite team that is doing it. I think the baseball fan in me won out over the Giants fan in me on that one.

Should be another good one tomorrow, Bumgarner v. Strasburg.

Best,
Jason

Jason, as much as I want to see Harper hit, it is only smart baseball to make someone like Robinson beat you when the option exists, so I wasn't surprised that the Giants pitched around Harper. That said, Robinson's Hr was a big surprise because of his part-time status. The Nats have so many injuries our line-ups are different almost every game. Williams has done a good job juggling the line-ups but it is the reason the team is so streaky.
It is pouring rain in DC and has been since last night. Don't see how they can get today's game in. May be looking at a Sunday double-dip.:wink2: Happy 4th! -- Al

Fun with numbers, part ??? -- out of Friday's 15 games, 8 were decided by 1 run, and 5 of those were 2-1 games. Personally, I love the 1-run, low scoring games, but as a trend I'm sure MLB is already contemplating how to get more offense back into the game. :rolleyes2: -- Al

I've had enough of 1 run games lately because of the Mets tepid offense.

Jason, somehow the rain has stopped (for the moment) and the drowned field in DC is being prepped for play. They are now saying First Pitch at 11:20 am EST. It rained all night and morning and the field still appears to be playable anyway. Unreal. Looks like the game is going to get played, barring another downpour. -- Al
