The more I see that slide, the more the play should have been called interference. Utley needs to get repaid and if he's not playing someone on the Dodgers needs to be taken out. POS that Utley is.

Brad, in the Yankee game, Gregorious took out the Astros 2nd. baseman in the same way, although without any injury. G went directly for the player and not the bag. Umps never thought anything of it. Should be payback, but these games and most every moment of these games are precious, so not sure if there would be a good time to do so. Michael

A hard slide is one thing, a body block another. There is a history between Phillies, Utley/Rollins and Mets. The Dodgers' infielders should be prepared for equal treatment and spikes high.

That slide was very late, he was on top of the bag, almost past it when he began his slide. The rule as I see it if the runner slides in a way to break up a DP and cannot make contact with the bag, he is out and the DP is automatic, he slid in a way to be able to make contact, he missed it, then he slid, very bang/bang.

Then he broke Tejada's leg in the process, which is extremely unfortunate.

Tejada also missed the bag and they called the runner safe even though he missed the bag as well; the rule is if both miss it, the runner is safe, sort of like the tie goes to the runner. That's a stupid rule for sure.

Also agree it was a head scratcher bringing Colon in; I never like starters being used in relief, especially in the middle of an inning.

Have a friend here who's a Mets fan, he was furious this morning, he said "Can you believe they scored three @#$%^&* runs with two outs!!" and my reply was "Yeah, three runs with two outs, what are the odds; the only thing that would have made it worse was if there was nobody on with two outs, then the Dodgers strung together three hits in a row, a wild pitch and then a little roller up along the bag......................"...............I made him laugh anyway.

It's a series now regardless.................

Back in the good old days this problem would have been taken care of by the pitcher on the offending players next at bat, and it would have been expected. Paybacks were part of the game. Nowadays, an inside pitch can get a pitcher ejected without warning and that can hurt his team, so it is rarely done. If the Mets get comfortably ahead in one of the games, perhaps the message will be delivered anyway. This is up to the Mets pitching staff to take care of as the opportunity for payback in the field may not present itself. JMO. -- Al

I was puzzled over the Colon move as well but I figured it was because of his control. He never issues the free pass. Just unfortunate the way it worked out as it was close to being the double play ball the Mets needed. -- Al

Actually the Colon move made sense because Kendrick is 2 for 22 against Colon.

The problem was that Murph didn't make a good flip to Tejada so he was in a vulnerable position when Utley hit him. Regardless of Tejada's position, Utley was coming in hard.

As bad as that situation was it was still 2-2 with two outs and the bullpen could have resolved the issue. Unfortunately, no one has been proven capable. I thought Reed woukd be the guy but he hasn't been able to do it effectively. I hope he goes to Robles next time. The kid doesn't get intimidated and he would have retaliated at the right moment.

The Mets should have hit someone. Maybe a brawl would have broken out and that would have settled things.

I'm sure the umpires will issue a warning before the game so Harvey won't be able to throw at anybody. Retaliation will have to be on the base paths. If Utley gets it the game, all bets are off. In fact, the crowd might go crazy and we might have an incident. I wouldn't be surprised if Torre suspends for two games.

As a "die-hard" Mets fan the best revenge would be taking the series. Sure I would like to see Utley get knocked around but not seriously hurt. Problem is that any retaliation will be deemed intentional and could hurt the Mets.
The commissioner should suspend him for the rest of the series but I doubt that will happen.

Houston takes a 2-1 lead over KC in their series as Keuchel did his thing. KC in deep doo-doo.

We of a certain age will remember Dean Chance, 2-time 20 game winner, Cy Young award winner, and author of a no-hitter during his glory years of the 60's. He passed away today at the age of 74. RIP, Dean. -- Al

Utley suspended two games today, so I guess MLB thought the slide was dirty too...............

It's a half measure. Why not 3 games. Patent attempt to avoid an incident at Citifield but it's ok if he plays in LA?

Torre said he didn't believe there was any intent to injure. Also admitted it was not reviewable just before reviewing it. If MLB wants to change the rules next year they should do so. But this is just a PC move because the guy got hurt when he hit the ground. Same play with no injury and it's ok.

Sorry but body blocks with no intention to go for the base is not ok. That he injured Tejada (not the first time he's tried to do although he doesn't discriminate on who tries to hurt) is irrelevant. MLB has handled it poorly, from the umps to Torre.

It's not likely Utley's appeal will be heard today so should be an interesting scene tonight. I'm sure he will be suspended for tomorrow's game and game 5, if it goes that far. If he's playing tonight, I'm sure Mets will play it tough on the bases. Just hope that Seager or Howie Kendrick don't get hurt; I particularly like Howie, as a former Angel (and he might be back with the Halos next year).

Tell it to MLB. Torre concluded there was no intent to injure and it was not reviewable per MLB rules. How he then suspends a player is questionable at best. If there is a problem with the rule it should be changed going forward but can't be applied to this situation.

Spoken like a true Dodger fan, an argument which I would make if I was one also.

Torre found he violated the applicable baseball rule so he will have a vacation, which he deserves.

Looking forward to the NLDS games today. Harvey goes for the Mets, so advantage Mets. Arrieta for the Cubs and Wacha for the Cards should be a classic. ESPN was showing that Arrieta's post-All Star break ERA is the lowest in MLB history at 0.75. The first All Star game was played in 1933, so that is a pretty impressive achievement. Someone managed to hit Arrieta enough to inflict 6 losses on him this year so it can be done. Should be a slate of good games, all around. -- Al

would love to see the Astros close it out today...

don't want to go back to KC...

coming on now...

It's unlikely his suspension will be heard before tomorrow either and probably not before this series is over so if the Dodgers win the series, I guess it will be dealt with then and if they don't, then probably in the off season, assuming he doesn't retire; he's not what he once was.

This will be handled on the field at some point, as it should be.

Holy 1919! Hit the first batter of the game. The fix is in! {eek3}:wink2: -- Al
