Whatsisname might be the best pitcher on the staff. Wonder if the Blue Jays would like a do over on that deal.

Noah Syndergaard. I've never liked knuckleball pitchers. The trade was innings for a future pitching star. After 3 years, what's-'is-name is paying off on the potential while the Jay's did get lots of innings from Dickey. Dickey is fine to pitch against mediocre and weak hitting teams but usually does poorly against strong hitting, patient lineups like KC. Although he did well against the Royals, NNY and Mets this year. Dickey had one good year the year before the trade when he won the Cyy Young but his other years were mediocre. I hated the trade 3 years ago and hate it even more now

Not quite ready to say that. The Mets refused to answer any questions about the WS, saying to a man that the only thing they're thinking about is today's game. Murph said that today is a must win game. One pitch, one batter, one inning at a time.

Looks like Cespedes may be coming alive and Wright too {sm3}

Thanks Mike. It's been an incredible ride, a real fun season so far, a season beyond any one's wildest dreams.

good luck tonight...

I hate to say it but Sandy Alderson fleeced you guys. The point of the trade was to get a starting catcher, which the Mets did but he somehow convinced them to throw in Syndergaard. At the time, that idiot John Feinstein slammed the trade calling what the Mets received a "bag of balls."

A few years ago we had a radio personality in Bay Area go on a tirade about the Warriors drafting Steph Curry, calling him a mediocre, injury plagued, future back-up NBA point guard. Not quite a "bag of balls", just a different recipe for crow pie.

You live by the home run, you die by it; time after time in the playoffs, great pitching will shut down great hitting.

Not to mention the Cubs defense is just awful, they had what, four errors last night, just brutal.

Their outfield is a complete train wreck with that lummox in left and the butcher in right.

If the Mets dont' close it out tonight, I cannot see a scenario where the Cubs win three strait off of Harvey, whathisname and DeGrom, it would take a Festivus miracle for the Cubs to advance at this point...............

There you go again..giving the kids the RS whammy. You probably said the same thing about the NYY before that freaking Shilling moment..:mad:Michael

RS whammy; you said earlier it was a cocky Patriots fan comment.

Make up your mind which enormously successful Boston based franchise you're trying to dump on, we've got so many to choose from, I know it's tough for you to keep track of them all.

The Mets aren't the cocky MFY's, they're a lunch pale bunch, not a pack of overpriced, over the hill stiffs like that 2004 MFY team was.

And after Fruitbat blew that save in game four, I knew you were toast in that series, you had no shot vs Martinez, Schilling and Lowe..................................

Have I referenced the Celtics or Bruins yet? I was saving them if there is a game 5...:pMichael

Hope to see you at Hackensack on the 1st or Fall In on the 6th, 7th or 8th, take care Mike.................

Toronto fans everywhere rejoice over the win as if they lose this series, they'll be forced to turn their attention to the Maple Laughs...................{eek3}

Too late. The leafs are already eliminated mathematically from post season play. Our attention will shift to the NFL and Belicheatk once baseball is over :tongue:^&grin

4-zip Mets in the first.

O-V-A-H.

And the patrons of Guido's Bar and Grille in Queens are going crazy..................

Speaking of being over, it looks like the Mets wanted to end the series early, as in the 1st inning. Like I said earlier, the Cubs are dead. -- Al

Well on the bright side, Steve Bartman should be able to move back to Chicago with no problem.

Can't believe Lester didn't sack up and ask for the ball tonight; great use of 155 million there Theo you stooge.

Watching the Mets offense in the playoffs is incredible considering how absolutely, positively putrid they were in the first half of the season.

What a turnaround.

It's a good start. Have to take it one hitter at a time. A good lock down inning.

Lester doesn't have a great record on three days rest. Moreover, they're going to need to win four in a row so why not save when he's on full rest. Hopefully, that will be next April.

If you lose tonight, there is no tomorrow.

Time to sack up.

Someone who watches the NL more than I do needs to splain to me how this Cubs team won 97 games; outside of Arietta, their starters are garbage, Lester was 10-12.

Must have won a lot of 14-11 games.

If the Mets go on to win the World Series, they should send a ring to the Nationals; if they hadn't underperformed so miserably and had a ten game lead like they should have, the Mets don't make the Cespedes deal, push Wright to come back or stretch out their young starters.

Baseball really is a funny game; looking at the five NL playoff teams before things got started, I had the Mets ranked dead last, yet here they are..........................
