best rock band from the U.K. (1 Viewer)

But everytime I hear Lynyrd, I think of the days fishing, having a beer, smoking cigs or cigars and generally NO STRESS life!!!!!!!!!!

TD

Those days are looooooooooooooooooong gone!

The Clash said on their first album
"In 1977 I hope I go to Heaven
No more Beatles Who or Rolling Stones"

Then they said on London Calling
"Come out of the cupboard you boys and girls
That phony Beatlemania has bitten the dust"

Or their great Tribute to Montgomery Clift on London Calling
The Right Profile. Wow what can I say about that. Great song.
Great beat.

That was a band.
We shall never see their like again.

I like the Stones as well.
I am pretty sure Joe Strummer did as well.

Guys

Have to tell you- this brilliant thread with all of your comments on your favorite bands prompted me last night to dig out a whole lot of music that I had pushed to the back of my collection.

I had a complete blast! Thanks guys for stirring the memories-when I went to my sack last night my eardrums were still ringing :D

Reb

So what was on the Uk Reb playlist?

Yesterday, listened to some John Mayall and Paul Butterfield Blues Band.

Had the house to myself for most of last evening and into the night and also had to paint a couple of Reb figures that I have had hanging around. Prompted by you guys on here sifted through a pretty substantial album collection which took a bit of time to come up with a bakers dozen of old rockers-armed with paint, brushes and a fine bottle of red repaired to the man cave and began this self made gig kicking off with

Revolver-The Beatles
Who's Next-The Who
Led Zep IV
Bandolier-Budgie
Rising-Rainbow

By now hands shaking too much to finish the Rebs (could have been the red rather than the music;) ) continued just playing air guitar with

Van Halen
Six of one half dozen of the other- Marillion

With ears close to bleeding called it a night leaving the following unplayed

Aerosmith-Rocks
Guns n Roses-Appetite for Destruction
Judas Priest-British Steel
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Jefferson Airplane-Bathing at Baxters

Intend the remainder soonest-They just do not produce music like this anymore well not to my battered ears they dont :D.

Wow Reb, you have great taste in music too . . . Rainbow, there's a blast from the past. Ronnie James Dio could really sing, with Rainbow, Sabbath, and on his own. British Steel is probably Judas Priest's best album. Led Zep IV might be my favorite album of all time. Then to finish up with Jefferson Airplane . . . very cool.:cool:

That sounds like quite an evening mate. Nice to see some fine American bands in that mix. For me that would certainly include the "Plane" but I would go with Surrealistic Pillow; brings back many fond memories.;):D She may have been rather strange but Gracie sure could sing.

Any favorite tracks on Revolver?

Tops for me would be Tomorrow Never Knows (Lennon's voice made possible by a Leslie) and She Said, She Said (written after a conversation with Peter Fonda).

Both good tracks Brad- Lennon's LSD trips gave birth to Tomorrow Never Knows which he originally wanted to call The Void but thought that title too associated with Leary and pyschedelic drugs. Subsequently, just like Eight Days a Week and A Hard Days Night he stole another of Ringo's famous sayings.

But my favorite on this album is the best B side they ever put out "Rain" the flip to Paperback Writer-once again influenced by LSD and a user's view of the world.

JL always swore that his experience of LSD and even after he stopped using it calmed his aggression-maybe that's how we got the likes of Strawberry Fields and A Day in the Life

Very well said. Someone who knows what he's talking about. Do you have Macdonald's Revolution in the Head? It's an analysis of every song they did. Not that I agree with everything he said, but you might enjoy it and I think it's a must for any Beatles or music fan.

Reb you old square.................:D Sounds like a good gig!

The last vinyl I played included Bandolier by Budgie, Mannfred Mann's Earthband (Don't Kill it Carol, Davy's on the Road Again, Blinded by the Light etc) and a mix of 70's rock (Axe Attack = the title may give you a clue) and Led Zep 4. Unfortunately my vinyl playing capacity is nil at present:eek:

When I do I thought I might thrash Genesis (Trick of the Tail, Selling England by the Pound), Asia (Time Again) supertramp live in paris..................

In the meantime pick and mix my dvd of live8.

For the 60s you can't beat the Stones, Beatles, Who, Pink Floyd and Led Zep. I don't really dig the 70s at all. As for the 80s I think The Smiths were outstanding. In the 90s Blur, Oasis, Supergrass, Radiohead are pretty notable. In the last 10 years I must be getting old as I don't pay so much attention but some Coldplay seems good. A colleague was telling me Muse are top quality.
Does anyone listen to the 60s show on Saturday mornings on BBC radio? It is simply the best.

This mob with OZZIE and Ronnie James Dio great band, but its a very hard Question there has been so many.

Rob: yes he looks like Beetle Juice's brother, but nobody challenges him on his riffs. Of course Satisfaction is thier greatest tune, and in his autobiography, he said he was dreaming, woke up turned on his recorder and played the opening notes. He then followed that up later--wow!!! I love most all of thier stuff, enjoy watching you-tube videos of all of thier very early appearences. I like some of thier less known songs too--Child of the Moon, 2000 light years from home, ruby tuesday, and play with fire..............Stryker

Just found this old thread from years back, lots of good friends I've made and happy memories here on this forum. And lots of good taste in music too:salute::

Time for me to update my favorite band!!^&grin the young lad from Birmingham known as Ozzy Osbourne and his group Black Sabbath have my new vote!!! matter a fact I posted a thread here awhile back on Sabbath during a early concert in Paris 1970 singing War Pigs, my God, hard to believe they were singing, playing that good without all the fancy equipment of the more modern bands of today.
