Thanks Martyn, :smile2:

If WBritains ever wanted to produce another limited edition set for the WAN series – wouldn’t a small loco and a couple of open wagons be ideal! Failing that a small steam launch……^&cool

A train would be perfect Jeff, failing that a steam launch, possibly along the lines of the African Queen {bravo}}

I believe WBritains took note of the picture coming up next :wink2: ^&cool

Many thanks for these super pictures Martyn - they do show the hustle and bustle on the Nile very well at these times.

Apologies for showing mine one at a time - but I was having a few problems trying to dig some pictures out yesterday. Don't know why it happens - just does occasionaly.

Building on your pics - this is one which shows transport of men and horses by boat nicely. Note the double-decker arrangement of Soudanese Cavalry???

Next - from The Graphic this time - another atmospheric pic - showing a view over the Nile towards Khartoum.

Last for now - some more general pics of boats and nile from The Graphic pages.

I'll follow you with some more later - as all appears to be working better today. jb

Love all the pictures you have posted jb :salute::.................I've put the ILN 1896 firmly on my wants list........along with THE GRAPHIC :wink2: :salute::

I've been checking my ILN 1898 and you know what, it covers almost all of the SPANISH AMERICAN WAR, well from May 1898 at least. I think a new thread along those lines is a great possibility :wink2:

In the meantime back up The Nile..........................

Some more lovely pics there Martyn. Sorry for any duplication - but tricky to know exactly what you have (and vice-versa). I'll try and stick to images of Graphic and years you don't have.

My next one shows just how shallow the draught was of these steamers. Note the people in the water either side of the boat below.

The next below shows bigger shipping in the top picture - so more sea-goers - but the lower pic shows troops packed into whaleboats again - and a little steamer similar to the one you showed earlier, which looks so much like the famous "Africa Queen".

I like the next page - as it shows off the European Sailor uniforms so well - and more packed whaleboats too.

The last one (for now) shows a much bigger ship - but interesting uniforms and weapons - both small arms - and larger caliber.

Over to you again? jb:cool:

Hey jb no need to apologize you silly boy ^&grin :salute:: keep 'em comin' from any source you have

Love your picture second from the bottom, shows the NORDENFELDT GUN in all it's glory {bravo}}

Check out the SONG THREAD, just put another song from one of your favourite Male singers on there ^&cool

Cheers

In use in the Navy from around 1883 I believe - but then began to be largely superceded by the Maxim around 1888 because of its higher performance. I believe Nordenfelt eventually amalgamated his Company with Maxim.

Here's a good pic of some Maxims at work on a Nile Gunboat. Note the putees and bare feet! (ILN pic - not sure when).

Over to you again - I have around half-dozen left. jb
