Bored Tonight...Post a Diorama, LOL (4 Viewers)

Cheers for the positive comments guys. No idea whether the columns are appropriate to Crete, but they look Mediteranianish (?) so close enough to tickle my fancy. Re the backgrounds, I googled for Powerpoint template designs and there are a lot of high picture quality 'scenes' which I printed and then blew up x2 on a colour photo copier.
Photos are a little better than some of my earlier efforts, but still a looong way to go.

Mark - real nice piece. Great stuff for inspiration and really like the water. Must have a try at that some time.

Simon

Very nice photos. How do you manage to keep the entire scene in focus? And how do you get them to look so sharp? Mine always tend to look grainy when I shrink them to post on the forum.

Harry,

Use aperture priority on your camera and stop it down as much as possible – The smaller the aperture the greater the depth of field – you will need a tripod. Also, try and use 1, 2 or 3 mega pixel as each time you resize you loose some of the quality. In other words, for posting you don't want to take a 3MP image and resize as you are going to loose too much quality. Use a tool such as Thumber to resize, where you can control how much pixel loss verses size of file you can work with.

Thanks for the response.
My photos are generally 2 ~ 3 Mpixel. The lose of quality you describe is exactly what's happening when I resize my photos down to around 97Kpixel. The photos I've posted so far look nothing like they do before I resize them.
I do have a tripod - just haven't found it yet.
I'm using a Canon Ixus 900Ti which I think is one of the best point'n'shoot digital cameras available. Better have a look at the Advanced Manual as I haven't a clue what "aperture priority" means.
I'm unfamiliar with "Thumb". What software package is this in?

Harry-

Your camera has excellent resolution and good color, but very little manual control needed for this type of work. You'll need more than a point-n-shoot to take photos like those.

Aperture priority allows you to set the size that the aperture will open upon exposure and the camera will choose the appropriate shutter speed.

Thumber is a digital imaging tool – Get it here http://www.tawbaware.com/thumber.htm

Ulp, I thought I was buying one of the best cameras around? No way I'm going out to buy another one (rather spend the money adding to our collection). I'll have another look at the Advanced Manual and see just how much manual control the camera offers.
I've downloaded Thumber, thanks for the link - and the advise.

back to Berlin...........

'Young Man' - I'll have you know that my mum is a Hells Granny!:D I would riot on a remark like that if I thought I could get away with it!:D

I am only going to keep posting if you keep going as well ;) - the recent input from yourself, Mark, Debrito, Harry, Damion just to name a few is really stimulating. I was getting 'metaphorically bored' of me, LT and Carlos for example - no offence:D

Are you sure that he's not asking the way to the spa for his chest wax?

Simon I'm in full agreement and hope he's ready or soon will be ready to continue with his Battle of The Bulge.......The Lt.

Eeeeeouch! That would be a good one for those 'Are you tough enough for the SAS' type programmes. A fortnight in the Beacons followed by a full chest wax.

I'll try and get some generic foam bases done so I can start messing around some more.

Simon

Lt, can't let you do this all on your own........a bit of a pc'n mix of 'old uns'.
