Bourbon Lovers (2 Viewers)

I had an interesting tasting weekend. Friday - Rare JW Pepper bottle (not the one you can find, some type of Reserve). It was very "heat" oriented. Not bad, glad I am not the one who bought it!

Last night enjoyed an old favorite, cracked a new bottle of Knob Creek 9 100 proof. Really a good Bourbon for the money.

Both sons visited for Mother's Day and we went to Jim Beam Distillery later in the week. And as Tom said Knob Creek 9 is a very good bourbon for the money. We got our bottles personalized (our thumb prints on the wax stoppers).

Chris, I envy your close proximity to so many fine distilleries and the ability to acquire bourbons that just don't make it up here in Wisconsin. Oh well, we have breweries, wineries and cheese makers here. Have you ever tried a merlot old fashioned with a beer chaser? . . . Me neither 😂🤣

Oddly enough, Weller is hard to find here in Kentucky although distilled about 30 minutes from my home. My youngest son gave me a bottle of the 12 yr old which is even more difficult to find.

Finally completed the weller 6 pack this past year due to "declining" speculative pricing! Now, I just have to have the courage to open the Single Barrell and the CYOP. (I have had both previously out) but have never owned the bottles. BTW, I like the 12year the best out of them all.

Tom, you have the Weller Antique (another hard to find here)? I have one but not opened it yet although I've tasted it a couple of times. Agreed the 12 yr is very good.

Yup on Antique too. Of all the ones I had had previously, I found the Create Weller the best. That was at a work retreat, we were having cigars and my colleague wanted bourbon, we looked on the shelf at the bar and had to do a double take. It was their only and last bottle, we ended up finishing it!

It's a windy and coolish autumn 🍁 🍁 afternoon here in South Central Wisconsin. Perfect for a fall flavored adult libation. So I decided to make and enjoy a Maple, Black Walnut Old Fashioned . . . or two 🤔.

My recipe:
2 oz Bourbon (I'm using Woodford Reserve Doubled Oak today)
.5 oz Maple Syrup
3-4 dashes of Black Walnut Bitters
A wee splash of Grand Marnier

Sounds tasty. I had something last night a restaurant called a pumpkin manhattan. I usually abhor vermouth but this had a nice balance of "fall spices: it was quite tasty too. I need to find their recipe.

Got this at my local liquor store as part of a customer loyalty rewards program. One of the "Holy Grails" of bourbon, seen this go for $50 per pour at restaurants.

GDIT! That is a great bottle! I was meaning to post, but mine is nothing this nice, but I happened to be in a liquor store last Friday picking up of all things Ketel One Espresso Martinis, yes I know the eyes are rolling, it is for Family Xmas eve!@ Lo and behold, I turn to my right and what do I see? A Blantons on a Pear Tree! $75. The Sign on it said Merry Christmas. First time in a long time to see it near retail in Maryland. 1 Bottle left, I used the Swim Technique from my old HS football days to move past another fella and grabbed it!

The Espresso Martini comes in a mix? I drink bourbon like you guys, but I had this Martini at Buffalo Wild Wings. It was great.

Ketel One introduced these littel barrel bottles of different Martinis. I tried the Lemon Drop and it is not bad (honestly like flavored vodka), my son had the Espresso and said not bad for ready made. I personally like one type of martini - Shake Russian (and only Russian) Vodka in a shaker, pour into martini glass - perfect martini that is not soiled by other ingredients. I have one store around me that stocked up on Russian Standard PLatinum and Gold Vodka. We are getting down to the last 30 cases of Gold. I am not sure what I am going to do if this Russia Ukraine conflict doesn't end soon between the loss of real Vodka and St. Petersburg soldiers, going nuts here. :)
