Britain's Zulu War (2 Viewers)

I really have enjoyed your last two photos Joe. I really like how your knowledge of the Defense of Rorkes Drift allows you to accurately "personalize" your figues. Nicely done sir :)

Thanks Mike your also proving us with knowledge of the events you've been featuring in the CW thread you created. Now back to the Drift as Assistant Commissary Walter Dunne is about to face a Zulu Warrior also of the iNdluyengwe regiment.

Hello!
I am new "zulu fan" and i have a question.
I just started to collect ZULU series,so can you tell me:
-why some of the britains at Rourkes Drift and i think in other Zulu Battles have white hemlet and some of them have blue cap?
And i think both of them are from 24 company on foot.
What is the diference?
Why not all of them wearing hemlet?
And what is the diferent between some of them have white hemlet and some of them have beige hemlet?
Is it good to mix together when make a diorama or they didnt fight at the same battle?

I am sure others will correct me if I am wrong but the 24th dyed their helmets with tea that is why they are beige. The white helmets are incorrect for the Zulu War. The other blue caps are Glengarry's and are worn by the 24th foot so they go together in the same battle

Ales,
Some officers and men has forage caps and glengarry caps for field use...The Medical units had forage caps, for example. Some officers had not time (or inclination) to grab their sun helmets.

Beige helmets were the result of in-field dye jobs to tone the white down. Some officers may have been disinclined to grubby up their helmets, and men with white helmets would have been recent arrivals in Natal. I think the white and beige together in a diorama is not only historically accurate, but cool:cool: as well! Any more , please ask!!:)

Scott the white Foreign Service Helmets were correct for the Zulu War and as shown in the past here's a photo which will shed some light on the matter for Ales and very nicely done my Aide de Camp in covering the matter in detail.

All right boys!!!!
Thank you all for the fast answer.
Well it look like that the new regrut wear white and other more expirience in battle wear beige which can be two reason(dust,dirt,...make white look beige,or like you all say they paint them with tea(?) that they look more expirienced so that other will not bully them around :D:D)
Well anyway i think white(or beige) helmets look more cool than this caps but ok now i know i can mix them together.
Can anyone know how much cost today a real 24 white or beige helmet in the market?
I bet it cost fortune right?

This 99 did they fight any important battle too?

Ales,
The 99th began 1824 as the 99th (Lanarkshire) Regiment of Foot (its title between 1824 and 1874). Between 1874 and 1881 it was known as the 99th (The Duke of Edinburgh’s) Regiment of Foot. The Regiment served in New Zealand (1845-7), and in China/Japan in the 1860s; after which it served in the Cape and Natal until its return home in 1869. It was stationed at Chatham when, in November, 1878, it received orders to embark for Chelmsy's folly. The 99th served at Gingindlovu and Inyezane.

Scott,
You're right about being wrong!:p
