College Football 2012 (1 Viewer)

HI Al, caught the end of the game. Agreed, I'll take 2-0, even with a 7-6 win over mighty William & Mary. :rolleyes2: QB looked better in his second start. Go Terps! Chris

Congrats-nothing like having your team win! From what I have read, quite an improvement from last week which is great news. I bet Tom "TD" Dubel is resting well tonight too.

Keep Calm & Fight On,

Some interesting top twenty match ups this weekend.

USC 34 Stanford 24 - this should be a good game. SC owes some payback to the Farm after tough losses in the last two years. This might turn into a beatdown if Stanford really isn't that good with Luck gone. Expect no mercy if that's the case. SC will make this a statement game.

Tennessee 30 Florida 27 - TN at home and playing well. They always seem to choke against Florida though. Maybe the odds are in their favor this year.

Michigan St. 44 Notre Dame 30 - this is always a wild game. I think the hammer comes down on the Irish.

Alabama 30 Arkansas 17 - This may be closer than expected. Arkansas choked big time last week looking ahead to this game. They also lost their starting QB. At home and embarrassed they will put up a fight, but it won't be enough.

I'm not sure that the USC game will be that close!

I'm a happy man with Northwestern sitting at 2-0. The first week we were all offense and nearly collapsed in the swealterdome against Syracuse (how do you build a dome and not air condition it??). Last week we found a defense and stopped a Vandy squad that everyone thought would thump us. The schedule is very easy for a few weeks (BC this Saturday) which means we'll lose one. It's the NU way.

The best coach Fitz quote of the week...referring to the receivers who dropped too many passes, “I reminded them that it’s a $60,000 scholarship. Catch the ball.”

First Saturday I have had off from work in awhile I enjoyed college football all day!!! best game was Cal/Ohio St. but can't believe my Hokies were spanked by Pitt, now waiting for Arizona to play this evening, let's go Wildcats!!...Sammy

I think USC should petition the league to have Stanford removed from their schedule, that's 0-4 the last 4 years.

What a stunner, what a bummer for the Trojans, my third favorite college football team (Sooners #1, Michigan #2).

Hopefully a loss early enough in the season where they can get back into the national championship hunt; college football really is a buzz kill in the fact that for the most part, one loss means you're out.

Stanford won by 7, but also missed 3 field goals and had a turnover inside the 10 yard line on another drive as well, they left at least 12 points off the board if not more.

Plenty of surprises yesterday but unfortunately not for my two local teams. UMd lost to UConn and Navy got whipped bad by PSU. Kind of shocked by USC's loss to Stanford and Arkansas losing so badly to Alabama. Thought the Razorbacks might show a little better but the Tide looks to be every bit as good as ever and have to be favorites for the crown. Also a bit surprised that MSU was handled so easily by Notre Dame. Was an interesting day. -- Al

Ugh. A brutal weekend for my Trojans. They get destroyed by Stanford (don't be fooled by the 21-14 score). They lose a shot at the National championship, Heisman, and likely even the Rose Bowl. To top it off Notre Dame and UCLA are both 3-0 and playing like top twenty teams. If I'm an NFL scout, I'm passing on Barkley. Great stats when all is said and done, but the guy has a weak and inaccurate arm. If Stanford's defense can shut him down, imagine what will happen in the NFL. He's a good kid, but not the savior some misguided NFL team will expect if they draft him #1.

I disagree; Stanford has beaten USC 4 straight years. It’s just their turn. All time series record is USC over Stanford 59-30-3.
I watched Stanford’s defense totally intimate USC’s offense all game. I think USC’s quarterback (Barkley) still hears them coming at him.

It also appears that limiting scholarships for recruiting violations works. USC isn’t deep despite great talent and injuries do affect a team’s performance. However, Stanford totally outplayed USC and should have beaten them by an additional 10+ points.

Watch out college football Stanford is for real!

Go Pac 12!

Others to watch: Obviously Oregon but what about UCLA?

Carlos

Fun college football day yesterday. I'm a huge B1G 10 guy...but man is this a week conference! It Utah State had a kicker Wisconsin would have lost! Indiana is terrible. Michigan State lost to an overhyped (!) Notre Dame team. Even Ohio State had to work to pull it out.

The good news...Northwestern in 3-0. People knocked our AD for scheduling 3 'pick-em' games to start the year, but we won them all. Northwestern is winning with defense...this isn't how it's supposeed to work!

Pac 12, Big 10, I'm an ACC fan, but let us be realistic for a minute. None of them hold a candle to the beasts in the SEC. -- Al

Hi Al, think UConn was playing a little pay back to their departed coach. Will be a long season for our Terps. Was surprised Arkansas looked so bad. Chris

Congratulations to Stanford for once again defeating USC. Things certainly did not go my way, and it was very frustrating to watch. No doubt an enormous loss, but since I pumped up my Trojans on this board just a few short weeks ago, I think it's only appropriate to give credit where credit is due. Stanford out-coached and outplayed the Trojans.

If there is any justice, SC gets another shot at Stanford in the PAC Championship game. But my guess is that Stanford gets rolled by Oregon. They seem to play the perfect game only against us. On to next week!

Yes, that's a great point and that's where my mind went immediately after the game. As long as we take care of business we will get another shot at them if they survive OR. Like you said, Stanford always brings it against SC. They typically don't fair so well against the Ducks. We have so many great games to look forward to....ND, ASU, UCLA, WA, etc...
Time to show that Trojan resolve and fight on! Bring on those Cal Bears!

Joe

Notre Dame vs Michigan this weekend. Chicago show as well. I need to plan wisely on Saturday to ensure Im back in my room by the kick off. Go ND!!!!

A disastrous week last weekend with the picks. Here goes:

USC 57 Cal 13 - not a great week to play the Trojans. They should be out for blood after being humiliated by Stanford.

Michigan 27 Notre Dame 24 - The Irish played a great game last week. Hard to do it again. They won't be able to stop the Michigan QB in the 4th quarter.

Oregon 49 Arizona 38 - could be a shootout. The Wildcats are playing well, but on the road they won't get it done.

Oklahoma 31 Kansas St. 13 - on paper a good game, but OK takes care of business.

Even though the UMd Terps lost to WVa today, 31-21, they showed up to play and gave the Mountaineers a tough game, contrary to all expectations, including mine. I expected the #8 Mountaineers to take this game by 30+ but was agreeably surprised to see UMd hang in for the whole game, only being finished off as time ran out. The definition of a morale win. -- Al

Hi Al, my sentiments exactly, expecting a blow out but UMd played a respectable game. Hope we can say the same when we play FSU. ^&grin Chris

My "new" Sun Devils are rockin!! {sm4} They got USC in a couple weeks. Run a 2 QB offense- never really a fan of that.

Army on the other hand..............uhhhhhhh.....hopefully they can get that first win against Stonybrook this weekend.

Wasn't pretty but I'll take the win. Go ND!!!
