Army picks up that first win of the season with a victory over BC. Even gave up a 99 yard TD run!! Woot Woot!! Bring on the middies!!{sm4}

ASU plays Thursday night. Should be good!!!
I'm sure the Middies will be glad to oblige you ground pounders, considering how things have gone for the last several (10) years.:wink2:^&grin It is my favorite football game of the year, bar none. Have been watching it since Staubach was running wild at Napolis. -- Al

Some interesting games this week. Starting to sort out the wheat from the chaff. I think there will be more than a few upsets.

Notre Dame 27 Stanford 20 - This is a big game for the Irish. At home, ranked in the top ten and playing a good Stanford team. It should be a physical game.

BYU 34 Oregon St. 20 - upset time. On the road and without their starting QB, the #16 Beavs are in a trap game.

LSU 20 South Carolina 17 - LSU is unlikely to lose twice in a row and they playing at home. However, they have one of worst offenses that I have ever seen for a top 10 team. South Carolina is likely overranked with a whipping of a wildly overranked Georgia team last week.

Washington 34 USC 31 - It pains me to say it but SC has not played very well this year. Going to the great NW where it is foggy, raining, and cold against a good team that usually plays them well. Good possibility for an upset. Probably the game to bet this week since the Trojans are double digit favorites.

Also watch out for Missouri at home against Bama. That's a super bowl for the home team.

Tough call for Stanford in OT. I thought Taylor got in after falling on top of the pile. He seemed to clearly reach the ball over the goal line before touching the ground. But the PAC 12 has the absolute worst refs this side of the lingerie football league. USC is the most penalized team in the entire country. The guy with the glasses is the absolute worst ref in college football. Whenever I see him I know it's trouble.

I guess if they wanted to give him all day to get the ball in the end zone then he eventually would. The forward progress had been stopped hence the whistle had been called. Besides even if it did work out in NDs favor its just a little revenge on the PAC 12 for the reggie bush push^&grin I just wish it happened to USC instead of Stanford.

Some interesting top twenty match ups this weekend.

Oregon 37 Arizona St. 24 - this is a trap game Thursday night. Oregon hasn't really played anyone and they go on the road against a very good ASU team. But I think they just have too many offensive weapons. Close until half and they pull away.

Texas A&M 27 LSU 14 - at home against an LSU team that has trouble scoring points. Could be an upset.

South Carolina 24 Florida 21 - good game between top ten teams. I'm not sold on Florida. I think they drop this one at home.

West Virginia 50 Kansas State 48 - WVA got themselves whipped big time last week. Huge game at home = winning time.

Alabama goes to TN. The Vols are due for a big one.

WVa is doing a fantastic job on offense but it also doing an equally horrible job on the defensive side. They are averaging 52 points a game on offense. They are giving up 35 points a game on defense. How far can they go with such a disparity in their game? You just know that the defensive problems will cost them in the long run, but it sure makes for an interesting track meet to watch. -- Al
WVa doing itself proud, again.:rolleyes2: Trailing only 45-7 with 6 minutes gone in the 3rd. 45 points given up in 36 minutes. Gad, they're horrible. They shouldn't be in the top 50, much less the top 20. I can't remember any team with a defense this bad. -- Al

So-so day for the locals. UMd lost a game they should have won by missing a gimme FG at the final gun. Too bad because they played good ball in the 2nd half, with their starting Qb having been knocked out. UMd found a ground game and played good defense to be in a position to win, but so it goes. Navy won a squeaker by 1 point over Indiana with a Td in the last minute or so. They like to live dangerously. -- Al

Doug...don't quit your day job...just teasing...don't get mad please...

actually I took S Car +3 1/2 too...

but T Tech bailed me out in OT and hoping Alabama will still cover -21 1/2...

Phew....My Irish just made it by the Cougars of BYU. I hope the lack luster offense that was portrayed today doesn't pop up next week against Oklahoma. I hate to see teams overlook their opponents for a better one but I think this is what happened today. Plus the versatility of Golson was missed today. Rees did just enough but at times it looked like his head wasn't in the game.

WVa ends up getting greased 55-14. They are now 5-2 on the year, mainly because they have scored 288 points for a 41 ppg avg. They have also given up 279 points, a 40 ppg avg. Jeez, whatever happened to defense? Another team along similar lines is Baylor. They are 3-3 on the season with an amazing 288 points scored, a 48 ppg avg. Baylor's defense is worse than WVa's, if possible. Baylor has yielded 264 points, a 44 ppg avg. What a laughing stock for college football. What are these coach's thinking? One thing for sure, watching these two teams, while not bearing any relation to real football, provide endless offensive fireworks for their fans to wonder at and agonize over. I am not a fan of either program as I only have Baylor on my radar because that is where the Redskins got RGIII and WVa is on my radar because they have tormented my UMd Terps for ages. These two programs are a disgrace to the term 'football game'. -- Al

Yes, a tough week on the picks. I thought WVA would take care of business at home after being massacred last week. Florida is either much better or South Carolina is much worse than I thought. On to next week.:wink2:

S Car has had 3 tough games in a row...they just laid an egg on Saturday...

W Virginia has turned into a hen house the last 2 weeks...multiple eggs on the ground...they are falling apart like a cheap suit...

My wife's school (and hence my "auxillary" school), Miss State, is 7-0 (they haven't played anyone yet). Dan Mullins has done a great job but they hit the big bump in the road this Sat, Alabama. :rolleyes2: Still, they have a good shot to go 10-2 or 9-3 this season. Chris

Mike is no doubt clamoring for my picks this week so he can go to Vegas and bet on the opposite teams. So here goes:

Florida 27 Georgia 14 - I have finally learned my lesson and go with the Gators in a big game. That is likely the kiss of death for them.

USC 41 Arizona 34 - Could be a shootout in old Tucson. The Trojan offense showed signs last week of playing to their potential. AZ has an awful D but can score points. Wouldn't be surprised if this game goes either way.

Oklahoma 24 Notre Dame 20 - At home Oklahoma should take care of business. It's still hard to say exactly how good the Irish are but we find out here.

Alabama 40 Miss. St. 21 - Some teams look good until they play Bama and then find out they aren't that good. That should happen again to Miss St.

Doug...

you're a good sport...
thanks for not getting mad...
I have not made a bet yet...
but I agree...
it seems like 11 1/2 is a lot to give ND...
so...I concur...I like your pick on that game...ND +11 1/2
hope you're right on that game...

I'm gonna study them tonight...

UMd Terps lost their second tough game in a row, again in the last minute. Were in position to win but a last minute Td by BC beat them. Still, the Terps did OK for a team with it's 4th string, and last Qb, running the game. -- Al

Northwestern finally hung on to win a game despite the usual late game display of 'please...after you' defense. It was a case of NU's bad pass defense against Iowa's worse pass offense. For once we came out on top in that battle. We're 7-2...much better than expected to start the year.

Lot of dreams went up in smoke in today's games. Florida, Rutgers, USC, OKU, and several other ranked teams all took a loss. The polls will be a brave new world tomorrow. -- Al

Once again my Irish prove the nay sayers wrong^&grin Great D by ND!!!

Great win that should convince some of the doubters. One of the pontificators on TV was making a big deal about how ND was overrated and not a Top 10 team. I hope he enjoys his crow sandwich. ND took it to a good team on the foe's home turf. If that doesn't convince, nothing will. {bravo}} -- Al
