Let' s hope the toysoldiers from China don't come infected by the corona virus.. {sm4}{sm4}{sm4}

What I find interesting is the FLU is now ramped in the US with 250,000 Americans affected and over 14,000 deaths so far, …. {eek3} ..yet no one seems to worry about those statistics.^&confuse

Most americans treat the flu as nothing more that a BAD COLD.
Last year over 34,000 Americans died from the flu.

While I will never take the Covirus-19 as a joke, we should all take the "ole' fshipon flu" as the real KILLER!!!!!!

Yes, but the flu for sure doesn't infect toysoldiers ^&grin

All jokes aside, the epidemic in China is already impacting the Global financial markets and has the potential to create a worldwide recession.

Many factories in China have already been closed as workers are sent home on mass. I think its quite conceivable that our great hobby could suffer along with many other industries who rely on China for the production of their goods.

China is my countries (NZ) largest trading partner and we're already feeling the affects down here.

Its obvious the virus isn't being contained either.

This whole terrible mess started (most likely) when some FOOL ate some really ugly looking creature called a "Pangolin"????? {eek3} :mad:

God awful looking creature, but I suppose a Turkey doesn't look to glamorous and they taste so good!!

Chinese people eat many foods that are considered delicacies but would not appeal to most Western tastes, although they are delicious. When we went to China in the mid 90s, I initially resisted eating certain foods when I was told beforehand what they were. Subsequently, I told my wife (who is Chinese) not to tell me what I was eating before I ate it. Many of the foods were delicious and I was glad to find out after the fact, not before.

What is taking place now brings to mind the movie Contagion. From Wikipedia:

“In the movie, a bulldozer knocks down a palm tree disturbing some bats, with one then flying over a pig pen and dropping a chunk of banana from its mouth, which was then eaten by a pig. Chinese chefs later collected pigs from the pen and took them to a casino where one chef was called away from his preparations of the piglet, casually wiping his hands on his apron. The chef then shook hands with one of the characters giving her the mix of bat and pig viruses that makes her the index case of the virus.”

Natures payback for decimating every creature on Earth. I hate the way man is destroying everything on this planet and there is no need to eat animals like the Pangolin or any other exotic animal. The notion of sexual enhancement and medicinal purpose with a lot of these things is an unproven idea and would be more dangerous with diseases than not. I think the Pangolin is kind of cute Larry and I believe the culprit is now a bat that harbours the disease. Anyway, I hope this scares man into leaving them alone and protecting our diminishing wildlife. Regards Greg.

My daughter was sick last weekend so I took her over to one of those urgent care places which are the only things available. She was coughing and such and put on one of those surgical masks. Turns out she had the flu but when she walked out into the waiting room wearing one of those masks some lady practically ran for her life. What a culture of fear we live in these days. It is a tragedy when anyone dies of an illness and not to make light of the recent virus but a lot more people will die in their cars or from falling in their showers than from this virus. But there is not nonstop fearmongering in those instances. I remember when a couple of folks got ebola in the US a few years ago and the news media made it out as the end of times.

It's very difficult to contain a virus like Corona that can spread via touch, close contact and the air you breath in.

Speaking of Bats, they can travel long distances and can carry a number of deadly viruses. We had a Hendra virus outbreak in my area (Sunshine Coast Queensland) several years ago, it's spread by Bats. Our local Grey Flying Fox has a wing span of 1 Metre or more, it has a Fox like head with sharp teeth to match, they look a bit scary but are quite intelligent and usually gentle albeit noisy creatures.

The Hendra virus has a fatality rate of about 50% which is much higher than the Corona virus, Influenza and even the Common cold with rates of approx 2% (most deaths in the young and elderly due to lung complications). Another deadly virus spread by Bats is Nipah virus, similar to Hendra but with a fatality rate of about 75%, affecting all ages! Bat viruses can be spread via scratches and bites, and to animals such as dogs and horses that ingest seeds or fruit contaminated with Bat Saliva or Faeces. And I guess to humans that eat Bats, not to my taste really but I've been told by my French neighbours who came to Australia from the French Pacific that Fruit Bats are very nice to eat. Crazy French people ^&grin

Speaking of things that eat anything. Our Jack Russell Terrier ate a number of Bat dropped seeds off some Golden Cane Palms in my previous property. She (Annie) was a terrific pet but would attack and eat anything, I've seen her eat a large lizard (Bearded Dragon) she caught, Green ants (Rhytidoponera metallica) that are nearly everywhere in Australia and can delivery a nasty sting for a small animal, but the stings never stopped her eating them. I've even seen her eat a Redback spider, that be fatal to humans but it didn't seem to worry her and she subsequently kept their numbers down {eek3}

Her culinary preferences caught up with her when she lapped up some Green coloured engine coolant that she found had leaked under our Holden Commodore, typical Buick engine. That made her sick for several days, she recovered but fatal Kidney failure caught up with her several years later. I don't how she got into the garage, but apparently dogs find engine Coolant very sweet, and it's very toxic, be aware of you pets about that.

Sadly this nasty beast was put together by China’s only Bio-Chemical Weapons Laboratory which surprise, surprise is located in Wuhan itself, just a short distance from the so called Food Market where its all supposed to have all started.

This is what happens when you start messing with nature.

its absolutely ludicrous for authorities to conveniently blame animals who have been around humans for centuries, on this outbreak!

Hope she’s better.

Speaking of masks — and I can’t recall if I mentioned this earlier — but there’s a global shortage on these masks. In our area in NW Jersey, you can’t find them. A bit of panic purchasing I believe. I read that washing hands is actually a better protection against viruses than masks.

If your statement was proved to be true Todd, China would be scorned all over the world and be ruined financially. I doubt this is the case but you couldn't say 100% it's not. Anyway the Chinese tourism in your country would be having a huge impact on the economy as well as Australia. When I was over in New Zealand about 6 months ago, I was surprised by the numbers and there are still about 100,000 students to come back to Australia to further their education when they are given the clearance to do so. Regards Greg.

Many thanks Greg. While I’m not into conspiracy theories, (which of course is a convenient way to label anyone proposing an alternative view as a nut job) I have learned in my profession to ask questions and dig a little deeper.

The likelyhood that this man made virus has escaped due to accidental leakage from the Wuhan Institute of Virology (BSL-level 4 Laboratory) shouldn’t be ignored. Many forget that is how the SARS virus entered the Chinese population which is well documented.

Governments such as China, Russia and the US spend mega dollars on Bio Weaponisation and it little wonder every now and then the results end up escaping these laboratories.

Please don’t take my word for it, but I’d encourage you to do your own research.

The fact is this outbreak is not contained and could have far reaching consequences. From a TS perspective most of our hobby is produced in China and will have an impact on our hobby the longer it continues.

its certainly having an impact here already.

Cheers Toddy

Brad, we’re already having trouble getting hold of hand sanitiser which is selling out and suppliers are saying don’t be surprised if we have huge delays being restocked.

When she was 13 she was diagnosed with leukemia and spent two years in treatment. Pills, IVs, spinal taps, shots, hospital stays, hair and weight loss etc. The one upside to that experience is that those kids are tough as nails if they get through. So while having the flu is dangerous she knows the drill for getting better. Take your medicine, rest, and keep your spirits up. Back to school this week!

All those viruses come from China.In China some people eat wild animals who carry viruses and bacteries not present in the human beings. So our antibodies aren't fit to fight those viruses.

She and you have been through a lot. Must be tough. I’m sure she’s happy to go back to school.
