It's very difficult to contain a virus like Corona that can spread via touch, close contact and the air you breath in.
Speaking of Bats, they can travel long distances and can carry a number of deadly viruses. We had a Hendra virus outbreak in my area (Sunshine Coast Queensland) several years ago, it's spread by Bats. Our local Grey Flying Fox has a wing span of 1 Metre or more, it has a Fox like head with sharp teeth to match, they look a bit scary but are quite intelligent and usually gentle albeit noisy creatures.
The Hendra virus has a fatality rate of about 50% which is much higher than the Corona virus, Influenza and even the Common cold with rates of approx 2% (most deaths in the young and elderly due to lung complications). Another deadly virus spread by Bats is Nipah virus, similar to Hendra but with a fatality rate of about 75%, affecting all ages! Bat viruses can be spread via scratches and bites, and to animals such as dogs and horses that ingest seeds or fruit contaminated with Bat Saliva or Faeces. And I guess to humans that eat Bats, not to my taste really but I've been told by my French neighbours who came to Australia from the French Pacific that Fruit Bats are very nice to eat. Crazy French people ^&grin
Speaking of things that eat anything. Our Jack Russell Terrier ate a number of Bat dropped seeds off some Golden Cane Palms in my previous property. She (Annie) was a terrific pet but would attack and eat anything, I've seen her eat a large lizard (Bearded Dragon) she caught, Green ants (Rhytidoponera metallica) that are nearly everywhere in Australia and can delivery a nasty sting for a small animal, but the stings never stopped her eating them. I've even seen her eat a Redback spider, that be fatal to humans but it didn't seem to worry her and she subsequently kept their numbers down {eek3}
Her culinary preferences caught up with her when she lapped up some Green coloured engine coolant that she found had leaked under our Holden Commodore, typical Buick engine. That made her sick for several days, she recovered but fatal Kidney failure caught up with her several years later. I don't how she got into the garage, but apparently dogs find engine Coolant very sweet, and it's very toxic, be aware of you pets about that.
