If there is Chicago Show, cobber :wink2:
I hope you don't mean to impugn the entire press in this country. True, much of the press/media relies too much on punditry and sensationalism but there are still many competent and honest journalists who protect our lives and freedom. Who else is going to hold our government and big business too task. I guess attacking the press is not political so I have to be careful but look at the corruption and lies coming from our leadership and politicians. Just recently the press reported that at least four Senators sold stock on inside information about the severity of the virus. These are things we would never know without the free press.I believe we will have Chicago, things will not shut down forever and this too shall pass. Might be a painful 2 months ahead, will be lots of finger pointing and legal maneuvering, and the press will "dutiful report" every minute as long as it furthers their agenda. I hate the press, I hate everything they currently stand for, they have become the story instead of reporting on it and I just find it thoroughly disgusting. And I hate to say this , but a good part of our Country "buys every line as gospel" and that worries me. We used to be a nation of thinkers, sadly no more and this unfortunate virus is exposing that in a big way IMO.

I have tried to support the president but his latest utterances that we must relax restrictions and return to business is troubling and foolhardy. To drop these restrictions now would increase the death toll and strain our hospitals and necessitate our going back to restrictions that would have to last longer. I’m sure the governors will not follow his pronouncements but his words will only encourage many people to drop their guard.
I've been trying to give him the benefit of the doubt too, but his press conferences are just gawd-awful. He just rambles on and gets off topic. Did he get his public speaking lessons from Jerry Jones?

36,000,000-to 51,000,000 have had the flu within the last 6 months with 34,000 dead.
If we had the testing capability like South Korea and could weed out those with the virus to stay home then we could let the others go to work, maybe.I don't see it.34,000 in 6 months 500 + in 3 months?Bottom line is American people do NOT like being told where and when they can go and workers in the stores tell me people are absolutely miserable and cranky. They are not use to a police state.Let a depression come and see how many deaths there are.I'm one of the lucky ones that I still have my job and working.People can't even get through to file for unemployment.

The president just said he wants to have the country “open for business” by Easter. If he lifts the restrictions it will be a disaster. He still compares this to the flu. It is not. I, for one, will continue to isolate myself as before and I’m hopeful NJ will continue to do so.
90% is testing negative. We have tested more in 8 days than South Korea did in 8 weeks.

The problem is that most of our citizens don't bother to do their own research and listen to both sides. I am set up to receive editorials from 24 different news outlets from the most conservative (e.g. Wall Street Journal,NY Post, Dallas Morning News) to the liberal (NY Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe). I know going in who leans which way and I can analyze both sides and make an educated opinion. In many cases we can just listen to our politicians during interviews and get a sense of truth and competency.
If you study the history of the press/journalism you will realize what a vital role they have played in saving lives, uncovering corruption and holding our government responsible. Without a free press our Democracy is in danger.
So criticize the individual outlets when they get it wrong but don't lump them all in one category. And give equal criticism to the politicians and big businesses who disrespect our Democracy and values.
It's still more people anyway you want to swing it.It might be just a partial opening for certain areas.Bottom line is you just can't have millions upon millions sitting around for months. You might have a big fat account but most don't.I and a lot of people are starting to wonder if the news we are getting is that accurate. No one I know knows anyone who even knows anyone who even has it.A woman who i work with knows a nurse in Mainland who says they haven't seen anyone with it.We and Salem county has had 1 each. It’s relative because of the differences in the size of the populations of each country. SK has performed one test per 150 people. That is 30 times more capita than we have done in the US.
