Toddy,
Perspective, you are right. Ok you would have been right if your auto correct thing hadn't pulled up the wrong word.

Forget about toilet rolls or meat becoming hard to find I am getting very concerned about the menu on Netflix. I don't think I am going to survive being house bound without some new options coming through soon.

Last night I had to resort to watching Infernal Affairs, a Hong Kong production, upon which the The Departed was based. Spoiler alert, there was no rat at the end and no scene with plastic on the floor.

Useless movie trivia for those who saw The Great Wall movie with Matt Damon. On Netflix if you haven't seen it. The actor who played the Emperor, Andy Lau, was the guy who played the same role Damon did in The Departed.

I might have to raid the piggy bank and subscribe to another streaming service.{sm2}

Doh, yes the auto correct thingy screws me up regularly these days, also not wearing my reading glasses too:cool:

I still have a few Netflix options at my end, but we don't have access to the full viewing menu which is frustrating.

People watching is my new thing now as I get to stand and watch people behaving badly at supermarkets and then get the opportunity to use my big growly voice. Joy.^&grin

One last post on a positive note.
We have all the resources to be self sufficient and take care of our people.....food, water, energy and technology. We will find a cure and vaccine for this and other pandemics.
We only have to remain calm and cooperate with each other.

Keep posting mate no need to hit the delete button at all. You've got every right to express your views and opinions like everyone else.

As for pining your hopes on a vaccine to help bring this nasty under control you maybe disappointed. By their very nature virus are constantly changing and adapting to their environments. This is why the common cold is still with us after generations. As it happens Covid-19 aka Corona-virus is from the same family of viruses that the common cold comes from.

There's no cure for this bad boy its just going to have to run its course like all other virus. At least unlike the SAR virus which usually killed its host, Covid-19 tend to just make most folks extremely sick so in one sense its the perfect virus.

Buckle up folks as latest models have at least half of the worlds population catching it...…..

Here is the logic at work in PA:

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board has closed wine and liquor stores, but advised beer distributors that they are free to remain open.

Have been looking around for information as to how to disinfect the mail that Americans (USA) receive six days a week.

In doing so, I came across government (USA) blurbs indicating that the stuff in our mailboxes is perfectly safe.

I'm not buying it, particularly if the letter carrier of record is unknowingly harboring a load of coronaboogers.

So, what's a good way to cleanse the letters and parcels that arrive in the postal locker?

In pondering my question, I should note that I'm really not concerned about the contents...even if it came from the PRC.

Rather, I just need to know how to make the external surfaces of the mail safe for handling by myself and, more importantly, my wife.

Considering the myriad rituals that I find myself executing from day to day, I'm hoping that the process won't be unduly complex. ;)

Thoughts?

that sounds like a brother in law deal...

Came across an instance of the 1918 Flu outbreak being spread through the mail:

It would appear that the mailman can, indeed, be a problem.

Should it be that EVERYONE on the planet knew about this but me, please forgive. :)

So your driving to Maryland then. Drive safe.

Yes the mailman can be a problem if he/she has a virus. I'm not sure about the actual mail, but if you're worried I suggest you wear gloves and spray the mail with disinfectant. I have been using a product here in Australia called Dettol - Glen 20. Doctors and staff in Hospitals and Medical centers use it to spray the air and hard surfaces such as counters etc.

Handy hint - I keep a can of Glen 20 in the glovebox of my car and have a can at home. As well as disinfecting surfaces I also spray it on my hands, initially in desperation, as the stores had sold out of the proper liquid hand lotion. I actually think it's better than the liquid as it's not as greasy and much easier to apply. Yes I know it may not be safe for my hands but we have been spraying Aerogard on ourselves here in Australia for decades to keep flies and mosquitoes away. And I use Aerogard to remove spray paint from powder coated metal fencing (true story) which suggests it may not be too beneficial for skin application despite it's popularity in Australia {eek3}

A doctor on the Next Door site posted that when it comes to packages, the virus can survive up to four days. I have several packages I’m waiting to open but waiting until four days following delivery has run.

Here’s an article on the topic. The risk appears to be low but I’m playing it safe.

https://thewirecutter.com/blog/coronavirus-packages/

I glove up for packages.
I heard cardboard is a 24 hr lifecycle
Plastics and metals up to three days. Not saying factual, just reiterating what I heard on the news.

Unless overnight shipping, I’m thinking the contents should be ok. It’s the outer package that concerns me as if the ups driver has it, that’s a 5 minute delay in getting on me.

Probably over thinking , but an extremely easy issue to avoid.

Uh oh, I am reduced to subtitled Hong Kong cop dramas on Netflix.

Infernal Affairs II did have a bit of realism in that the senior officer at the head of the disciplinary board was actually a former detective in real life. Seems things have changed since I served in the Police there as not a problem to be caught on tape admitting to setting up a murder of a triad leader. The bad guys don't take it too well though. One of the most annoying things is the way Detectives regularly appear in uniform. I guess it makes them seem, from Directors point of view, more important.

Have now watched 3 episodes of Hong Kong cop series called Defected. One of those shows where the nasty killer everybody is looking for just happens to be hiding out next door to the family of the hero Detective in the series. What are the odds in a city of 7 million ? He is one of those Detectives who does not play by the book and has a Sgt who has a gambling problem (been there done that when a Station Sergeant was chosen to be my no 2 in my Drugs Squad - theory is as knows the bad guys he will bring in some cases - turned out to work well - just don't ask too many questions:wink2:

Some interest for me as the main character is initially based in Mongkok and then moves to the Narcotics Bureau (NB) like I did. Senior policewoman is being groomed to become the first female Police Commissioner. However she is working in a senior administrative role in Kowloon but pops over to the Narcotics Bureau and joins in operations whenever she feels the need. Naturally she is hunting the killer guy who killed her cop son. Nearly forgot to mention her other son works in NB. The head of NB is the former head at Mongkok who is no fan of the female. The hero Detective's Sgt manages to get NB after his team kindly pay off all his debts. Oh wait, the whole team actually follow hero to NB.

As you can probably tell I am hooked !

PS in my defence we have been advised to stay at home this week end.

Having lived in PA (many years ago) I can affirm that logic and the Liquor Control Board have no relationship. But union $$$ and the Liquor Control Board, ah, another story.

Are you saying you didn't open the shop on Saturday, things are getting serious {eek3}

I'm also a cop show fan, have been watching Murder Call, a 1990's Aussie series now on Amazon Prime. That and another Aussie TV series called Wildside were my favorites back then, Wildside had gritty realism, Murder Call had quirky characters and humour, and Lucy Bell was easy on the eye, probably still is.

The city has forced us to close our gyms. As a small business that is interwoven into the community we are doing our part and heeding the order.

On the other hand, being home with my wife 24/7 is going to be more difficult than it sounds. If this virus doesn’t kill me, I am pretty sure eventually she will.

Actually was originally planning to be closed on Saturday. Daughter and her fiancé were supposed to be flying up from Sydney and having their double birthday party and engagement party in the Valley. For some reason they had to cancel {sm2} So ended up opening anyway.

Naturally I count my business as an essential one so will keep open unless some very draconian rules brought in. Not yet got to stage of wearing hazmat gear for handling the little men but am however spraying the card machine ! Looks like schools going to close from Tuesday in VIC so think others will follow.

Carlos,

I am very sorry to hear about your father in law, I hope he has a full recovery. I also hope none of your other family members who had lunch with him contracted the virus, and that the rest of your family is and remains healthy and safe. My youngest sister in law tested positive but had mild symptoms and seems to have made a good recovery. Luckily we had not seen her for a few weeks so we are okay.

I stopped going to the gym before they were officially closed; I didn’t think they were safe even though the Y has plenty of wipes.

The number of deaths went down slightly yesterday from Friday and the number of cases dropped from 4800 to 2600. That is some good news. Let’s hope we are pointing in the right direction.

I did see that the number of new cases dropped, they need to keep testing people in large numbers. Around here in MA, the governor is still allowing non life sustaining stores and businesses to remain open, he's closing pre schools? Not sure why that was not done two weeks ago when all schools were closed.

I hope the next couple of weeks bring slivers of positive news such as what you reported, deaths down/cases down.

One thing I read is that this is not going away anytime soon, it will be with us for a long time. What will happen is as things appear to calm down, perhaps businesses will start to reopen, then restaurants and bars after that, HOWEVER, at the slightest uptick in the number of new cases popping up, they will have to scale things back.

So they will have to stay on top of it and keep an eye on things and if things start to go in the other direction, businesses will get shut down again...……..schools around here are all done until the Fall.

From all appearances, the NBA and the NHL are done, MLB will have a late start, perhaps Memorial Day, a shortened season or they will just bag baseball too, the NFL could have a shortened season too.

I really do not give two ****s about sports, I don't miss it one bit...…………
