I’ll preface this by saying I respect everyone’s opinion on the vaccine.
While insulin is not a vaccine per say, it is a widely distributed medicine that assists in the treatment of a wide spread disease.
When I first became a diabetic I was young, I really didn’t have a choice in taking insulin or not.
I got a little older and looked into the medications I was taking. Some of the long term and short term side effects were simply frightening.
I do not want to sound trite but I was left with a choice, continue taking insulin despite the side effects or die.
Well that certainly puts things in perspective.
I'll also preface my comments with I too respect everyones opinion on the vaccine.
At the end of the day, it comes down to choices and ones comfort level.
As a toy soldier dealer who used to actively participate at a number of toy soldier shows, I would not feel comfortable going back to shows unless I got the vaccine, being in a large hotel function room elbow to elbow with other dealers and collectors browsing where it's virtually impossible to social distance, I would not feel comfortable in that environment without getting a vaccine.
Same if I attended a wedding, funeral, sporting event, concert or any other large indoor gathering, or dined in a restaurant.
So unless the plan is to barricade myself into my home or wear a mask for the rest of my life, the only other option for me is to get the vaccine.
Do I have concerns over a vaccine that has been developed and approved 10 months into a pandemic; sure I do, any sane individual would. What are the possible long term side effects; no one can say with certainty what, if any there will be.
So you risk possible long term side effects with getting COVID and either fully recovering, having long term side effects or dying.
Hmmm...................tough choice.
As I've also pointed out, my Mom is 88 and my girlfriend has asthma, so I need to consider the health of
those around me and get the vaccine for them as well as for me.
For those who don't it, if you get the virus, there is a 5% chance you'll give it to me, then I'll give it to my Mom and my girlfriend.
I wonder if down the road, getting the vaccine will be a condition of employment or allow you to fly or even travel around the country.
Time will tell.
