Covid-19 is currently ripping through my workplace. 2 positive cases last Monday, another positive case last Wed and a 4th positive case today after he had tested negative late last week. I tested negative last week and I'm getting tested again this week. This is not good and so sad being so close to the vaccine yet feeling so far away. We went 9 mos. without a single case and bam, reality strikes. I had direct contact with two of the infected while always all masked but still....such worrisome times. One of the guys who got sick is a good friend- young, strong, and no drug/alcohol history, and this virus destroyed him. He can't even walk across his living room without oxygen level dropping, being out of breath and initiating a coughing attack. His wife has caught it now and has body aches from hell. What can we do though?

Joe

Best of luck Joe. A Ventolin Inhaler helped me breath easier when I got bronchitis earlier this year. I now make sure I have at least one in my first aid box, just in case.

Thank you kindly Matt.:smile2: I'm going to get a Ventolin Inhaler as you suggested.

Be safe & well,
Joe

Cheers Joe,

Ventolin inhalers are well worth having. Obviously Covid19 is far more dangerous than the Flu I had but whenever I started coughing a lot I took a drag on the inhaler and the cough disappeared in seconds, and I was able to breath a lot easier.

Regards
Matt

Joe,

I am hoping you don’t get it, and your co-workers and their families make a full recovery. The vaccine is starting to be circulated and I hope we all can get inoculated and halt Covid for good.

The US is negotiating with Pfizer to purchase more quantities of the vaccine. The US would use its power to free up the raw materials needed to make the vaccine by prioritizing Pfizer’s requests from suppliers and Pfizer would supply the US with what is described as tens of millions quantities of the vaccine.

Joe, best of luck and hope you stay virus free.

Thank you gents, much appreciated. We'll just keep fighting on and remain as safe and sane as possible in the face of this nasty virus.

Joe:

Your post is a stark reminder that behind all of the numbers there are actual people who are suffering the reach of this pandemic.

I will keep a good thought for you and your coworkers.

Hang tough Joe . . . Wishing you, your family, and friends good health and well being. Your concerns are understood as my 22 year old grandson, my daughter (his mother) as well as my son-in-law have all had Covid. My daughter is still having some lingering effects.

Finally - Sweden's King has acknowledged that Sweden has failed in their handling of Coronavirus Pandemic:

Matt,

The King's comments and the general tenor of the video clip don't mesh well with the data for Sweden, at least not when compared with the rest of Europe:

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

European countries with the highest number of deaths for 12/17/20 are as follows:

Germany - 724
Italy - 683
Russia - 587
UK - 532
Poland - 432

In 27th place for today is Sweden with 23 deaths. Certainly, that's tragic and I don't mean to diminish the loss in any way. However, in a relative sense, even when adjusted for it's smaller population size, Sweden really is holding its own. Approached dispassionately, I honestly don't understand how statistics associated with the Swedish experience can be viewed otherwise.

It's much simpler and fairer to compare Sweden against other Scandinavian countries rather than 'European' countries.

Sweden has around Triple the deaths when compared that way, not good imo.

Thank you very much, Mike.:smile2: I'm sorry your family got hit so hard, and I hope they all fully recover with no long term damage. We had 52,000 documented new cases in CA just today alone. It's getting more difficult to dodge the virus with each passing day.

Please be safe and strong,
Joe

Well what a surprise. AMA now says OK to prescribe HCQ for Covid treatment.
See my post at 723 about bias against HCQ because no money to be made. If you followed the link to the TV documentary you will have noted comments by respected medical people indicating that HCQ had become politicised because a certain well known leader had praised its use. Note HCQ used once a patient has Covid so not a vaccine.

This is from the American Medical Association Nov 2020 Special Meeting of the AMA House of Delegates - Handbook Addendum (ama-assn.org) Dated 30 OCT !!! Strange how this has been kept low key when there was so much publicity against HCQ mid year.

Resolution: 509 (November 2020)Page 3 of 61
Whereas, The COVID-19 pandemic is a serious medical issue, people are dying, and2 physicians must be able to perform as sagacious prescribers; therefore be it
34 RESOLVED, That our American Medical Association rescind its statement calling for physicians
5 to stop prescribing hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine until sufficient evidence becomes
6 available to conclusively illustrate that the harm associated with use outweighs benefit early in
7 the disease course. Implying that such treatment is inappropriate contradicts AMA Policy
8 H-120.988, “Patient Access to Treatments Prescribed by Their Physicians,” that addresses off
9 label prescriptions as appropriate in the judgement of the prescribing physician
(Directive to10 Take Action); and be it further1112 RESOLVED,
That our AMA rescind its joint statement with the American Pharmacists
13 Association and American Society of Health System Pharmacists, and update it with a joint
14 statement notifying patients that further studies are ongoing to clarify any potential benefit of
15 hydroxychloroquine and combination therapies for the treatment of COVID-19 (Directive to Take16 Action);
and be it further1718 RESOLVED, That our AMA reassure the patients whose physicians are prescribing
19 hydroxychloroquine and combination therapies for their early-stage COVID-19 diagnosis by
20 issuing an updated statement clarifying our support for a physician’s ability to prescribe an FDA
21 approved medication for off label use, if it is in her/his best clinical judgement, with specific
22 reference to the use of hydroxychloroquine and combination therapies for the treatment of the
23 earliest stage of COVID-19 (Directive to Take Action); and be it further
2425 RESOLVED, That our AMA take the actions necessary to require local pharmacies to fill valid
26 prescriptions that are issued by physicians and consistent with AMA principles articulated in
27 AMA Policy H-120.988, “Patient Access to Treatments Prescribed by Their Physicians,”
28 including working with the American Pharmacists Association and American Society of Health29 System Pharmacists. (Directive to Take Action)

Interesting Stats:

California - Deaths from COVID - 22,000 (Pop 39M)
New York - Deaths from COVID - 38,000 (Pop 20M)
New Jersey - Deaths from COVID - 19,000 (Pop 9M)
Florida - Deaths from Covid - 20,000 (Pop 21M)
Texas - Deaths from Covid - 25,000 (Pop 29M)

So which policy worked? I googled these numbers, so I assume they are fairly accurate, but it is very interesting look. Tells me that being open/closed, locked down etc is really not changing the game too much. Makes you wonder when you look at the raw numbers. Now, I am not in any way stating any scientific fact or conclusion, these are simple laymen numbers. Lockdowns are not apples to apples b/c you would say California is doing much better than New York or Jersey in the lockdown approach. Florida is doing better than Texas in the open approach. Can probably spin these anyway you want to. That said , from a laymen's perspective between the 5 states, I would take Florida over any of them overall.

Of course, look how much more Geography California covers than New Jersey. Factor, probably. I guess I am coming to a point that it is very hard to make conclusions, comparisons etc between the States. SO, looking at comparison to Europe would seemingly be the same way.
