Biden announced yesterday that regular adults without any comorbidities will have access to the vaccine in May. I understand Covid fatigue, but we are two months away from relative safety. We just need a little more patience and herd immunity from the vaccine can put this mess to bed.

Beyond everyone being vaccinated, masks are still going to be a thing as will social distancing, just listen to Fauci, he wants everyone to wear two masks and still social distance even with the vaccine, "experts" here in MA are moaning about the restrictions being lifted, they don't think it's a good idea.

A lot of people are at the point where they really don't care what they think anymore.....................

He lifted them just in time for spring break. What could possibly go wrong? {eek3}{eek3}{eek3}{eek3}

Bob...

I don't get this at all...
a lot of people are incensed over this...
I realize he is trying to get people back to work...
to stimulate the Texas economy...
but currently allowing public business's to operate at 75% capacity...
with the mask restrictions still in effect...
seems more than sufficient to me for a while longer...
this just makes no sense...

I wonder if the virus gets human fatigue. Doesn’t look like it.

Currently the largest age group that is getting infected; 1-19 year olds, which explains why the number of hospitalizations and deaths is dropping, it impacts older people worse than younger people. That age group is the one that is the most lax about wearing masks.

45,000 people on average in MA are getting vaccinated per day, that's roughly 1.2 million a month, there are about 3 million adults here in MA who have not gotten the vaccine yet.....................so it should take 3 months and we'll be good, just in time for the Summer.

But, masks and social distancing will still be "a thing" in MA from what I am hearing, Baker is in no rush to lift the mask mandate.

Anyone who thinks once all adults who want the vaccine get it things will go back to "normal" is kidding themselves..........COVID as my doctor told me is never going to fully disappear, so anyone who plans on resuming activities again once the number of new daily infections is at zero will be dead before that happens, so we all need to accept the fact that like the flu, COVID is going to be out there and we have to decide where our comfort level is to go back to activities such as dining out, gathering with family and friends, attending movies, concerts, sporting events and plays, traveling/going on vacation, etc, etc.

Once I am vaccinated, I will remain careful, and wear a mask in public situations, but I will begin to do normal things again, like eating out in restaurants, going to the movies, sporting events, traveling. Once most people are vaccinated and there is significant herd immunity, we have to return to living somewhat normal lives again.

Right there with you; I too will continue to wear a mask in situations that warrant it............once the mask mandate is lifted, I will have to decide what I want to do moving forward, but like you, I'm at the point with this where I have/want to return to living somewhat of a normal life again.

Whatever "normal" will look like, who knows.

IMO, "normal" is gone forever, which to me is very disconcerting, but it is what it is.

There is going to be a HUGE surge in summer vacation travel this year once most everyone has the vaccine. Almost everyone that I talk with is planning on going somewhere.

We received our second shot last Thursday but are still being as cautious as before, which we have to be right now because it takes two weeks for it to be effective. After that we will still be careful because although we may not be able to get Covid it’s unclear if you can be a carrier and spread it to other people; we’re not sure when my son will be able to get the vaccine.

In late April or May, I intend or hope to go to a ballgame, which probably has low risk because it’s open air. I’d like to return to the gym but I’m not quite sure I will be ready to do that. Same with restaurants unless it’s outside seating.

One wild card in all of this are the variants. No one is completely sure what will take place. Variants are normal as the virus is trying to find a way to survive.

That's also known as being smart.

Sort of sad though that you and others will be fully vaccinated, but still have to be "cautious"..........like my Mom said to me the other day when I asked her is she is happy to soon to be vaccinated/protected "Yes and no; happy to be protected, but virtually nothing is going to change.........still will be wearing a mask, avoiding crowds, no indoor dining.................so same old same old like the past 12 months"..............

on NBC local news today...
speaking on Gov Abbott's plan to reopen Texas 100% and stop mandate on mask wearing on March 10th...
Harris County (Houston) Judge Lina Hidalgo says Texas has given vaccinations to 7% of the state...
for herd immunity to be effective...she said you need about 70% inoculated...
she criticized his plan as too early...
as Biden referred to it as "neanderthal"...
I kind of feel like the Governor's plan is based on good weather and tourist season dollars possibly coming soon...

I can't wait until next Wednesday, March 10th to end this insanity...its March 2021 not March 2020 and we've learned much since then...can anybody tell me what COVID 19's death rate is? It does matter doesn't it? Hint: This isn't the plague or event the 1918 Spanish Flu.

Look we have a new presidential administration, time to get the politics out of this pandemic and keep protecting the most vulnerable but allow the rest of the country to recover fully emotionally and economically.

BRAVO Abbott. BRAVO Texas! BTW, Florida hasn't had a mandatory Mask order for awhile.

Sounds like the Mayor of Amity in Jaws . . . :rolleyes2:

I think, like it or not, in time masks will completely fade.

As I have mentioned before I just hope social distancing remains in place. There is no need to be inches away from me while we stand in line etc. like we did pre-pandemic.

The same goes for washing your hands, The thought that before all of this many people didn’t wash their hands after doing things like going to the bathroom is actually nauseating.

We are three or four months away from having enough vaccines for everyone. My wife and I got vaccinated this week and the hospital personnel said their shipments of vaccines have increased exponentially in the last two weeks. Why would Texas and Mississippi take such a terrible risk at this point when we are about to turn the corner? Fortunately many businesses will still require masks to enter their establishments. If their rates of contracting the virus and deaths spike up these Governors are complicit.

Florida has been really open for some time. My parents returned from their 8 week stint, no issues. They are 79, were not vaccinated at the time. Yes they wore masks, but they went about their business, ate out, shopped, went to the movies in Florida, no problem. I can see why Texans are anxious and ready to be on the move. The light is at the end of the tunnel. I think you will see the majority of folks wearing a mask whether a mandate or not. That is what my parents reported from Florida.

I got no problem with retail stores going to 100% capacity...
but...
I hope you're right on most of the people will still be wearing masks in Texas part...
