Said to the German diplomat with the British upper lip set extremely stiff.

"We're not easily frightened, we also know how bloody hard it is to cross the channel. The last little corporal who tried came an almighty cropper. So don't threaten us or dictate to us until you are marching up Whitehall and even then we wont listen"

Priceless!

And the old Londoner who got his blitz priorities right

"They got the Rose & Crown!"

No comments on the movies, no more than their top 5.
And we will see what we come up with.
Again only 5, and no comments.

Guys

Considering the current amount of input by members on this thread I was just wondering if anybody is eventually going to pull the votes together and possibly come up with a "Definitive List" of froggers Top 5 War Movies.

And yeah! before somebody posts I know- If I'm that interested why dont I do it myself

But am just trying to clarify what Gary's end game for his thread was and the differential between Top 5 & Top 10.

Quintessential British defiance in the face of adversity. A trifle more eloquent than our later American equivalent "Nuts!", but that's the value of an education at Cambridge perhaps.:D

Of course I still favor the literally Laconic response: Molōn labe! (Μολὼν λαβέ); generally translated "Come [and] take [them]!":D:D

A little less eloquent maybe and not used that often in our vocabulary but the British are rather fond of McAuliffe's single word quote- if for nothing else- for causing utter confusion amongst the German delegation.

Yes, well we Americans are known for causing utter confusion with our remarks;:D No political offense intended.:)

Tacca-tacca-tacca-tacca-tacca.......:D

"Where the H*** are you Simon"........

"You're not a Pilot. You're only a Sergeant. Why's your top button done up then"....

"Right, stick to me like glue".........:(

I would like to add on the list the movie Cold Mountain, it is not a real WAR movie, but I really enjoyed the scenes of war..

Agree with the war scenes Rod and I do believe the Battle of the Crater is the only time it's been depicted on screen. Harrowing but very authentic according to battle reports and soldiers private diaries/letters.

That scene was overpowering, certainly leaves an impression. Will you be doing that one Reb?

1. All Quiet On The Western Front (original, of course) 2. Thin Red Line (1998) 3. Pork Chop Hill 4. The Train 5. Blackhawk Down Has anyone an opinion of 1988 film "The Beast", starring Jason Patric and Steven Bauer? I found this to be a really good film with unusual subject matter.

There was a remake of "All Quiet on the Western Front" made back in the late 70s or early 80s, with Richard Thomas (John-Boy on The Waltons) as Paul, and Ernest Borgnine as Kat. I recall at the time thinking that that was pretty well done, too. I think it was a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, made to be aired on TV, if I remember correctly.

Prost!

Lancer,
I don't remember seeing "The Beast", but I looked it up on IMDB.com and it looks good to go on the rental list. I'll let you know when I do. Mike
