Everyones Top 5 War Movies (2 Viewers)

Brad listed Casablanca, my favorite movie of all time, which I hadn't considered a war movie, so left off my list. If Casablanca counts as a war movie, you would have to amend my list to put it squarely at number 1.

I'm not into old black and white classics but I just had to say I rented out 'Casablanca' yesterday to see what all the fuss was about - and it really is as good as they say. The aircraft special effects were ordinary but everything else was first class, a must see if you haven't already.

It really is a classic, great story, great performances from Bogart, Bergman, Claude Raines, whose Reynault is such a wonderfully amoral character, who yet shows his real character in the end. Peter Lorre and Sidney Greenstreet also do such great jobs with their parts. Turner Classics just reran it again Monday night. It's one of a few movies I will stop to watch, when I see it's own, along with "The Adventures of Robin Hood", and "Jaws". Gotta love Quint!

Prost!

Yes, I would add you gotta love Robert Shaw; so many great performances in mostly supporting roles, from the Dam Busters to the Deep and including some of my favorites like the Battle of Britain and Force 10. A frightful loss when he died prematurely.

And "Battle of the Bulge", and "From Russia with Love". And "Robin and Marian", too, didn't he play the Sheriff of Nottingham? I can't remember, but I think he had the great line, when challenged about being able to read, saying, "Book-learing is for clarks"

Yes, he was great.

"Anyway-we delivered the bomb."

Yo Troopers, yes Robert Shaw was a great actor, anyone here old enough lol to remember his first starring role on the TV before he became a big movie star. A big tip Beau Bridges also starred in the series.
Bernard.

Bernard,

Are you talking about Sea Hunt? I couldn't find anything linking the two together.

Ride with the Devil a good but somewhat obscure movie, Cross of Iron was much in the same vein.

Yo Brad sorry mate, I could have sworn he was in the Buccaneers with Robert Shaw, played young Lt Beamish. It must be the old memory fading lol.
