Foam Desert Fort... (1 Viewer)

By the way...I love this figure...this guy is great...I think I will buy another set...

The front gate is huge...huge heavy timbers for a strong entrance...but I like it...

This is awesome Michael and is certainly taking shape. For the railings in the corner building have you considered something simple like a T shape (one in each cutout)? Just an idea.

Scott...it will probably be something like this...they are pretty easy to do...I want to add a lot of railings, ladders, stairs, doors, windows, porches and ceiling joists...the wood really breaks up the color of the stucco...

That is turning into one helluva fort, truly excellent Michael:cool::cool::cool:

Cheers

Thanks Martyn...

I got the interior doors done today too...

they came out pretty good...

Missed your last posting again Michael got to do something about that. It's coming along very nicely an looking forward to what's headed our way and being defended...PapaZ

Thank you Mitch, Jeff and Joseph...

I know this has been moving slow...but I'm really gonna buckle down and get to work this week...

I have been neglecting it and waiting on some pieces I bought on Ebay to be delivered...

anyway the windows arrived...they are pretty nice...pretty well detailed and I think they are going to look good...

I finally got the exterior textured with the stucco patch...it really took a solid hour to apply it...it took a long time to apply the stucco in between each merlon...I only did the exterior and the catwalks so far as I'm not sure where the interior buildings will go on the inside...

the stucco turned out nice...it reminds me of frosting a cake...I used a paintbrush and it turned out pretty well...especially the catwalks...all the seams are covered up nicely and it needs to dry overnight...the stucco on the front door turned out really nice too...I took some closeups...

I know it looks really plain right now...like a big vanilla cake...but please keep in mind that I have not done any dry brushing yet...I think some detailing is really gonna make it sparkle...

there's a lot of touch up to do on the stucco...some spots are not as textured...so tomorrow after it dries...I will do a good inspection...

I put a few K&C Naps on the walls just for a picture...

Here is a picture of the windows I bought...

they are plastic and from Hansa Systems...

they are 1/35 scale...

I painted them brown...

the window panes do not fit...

the small frames are supposed to go in the back of the larger frame and hold the clear pane in place...

but the panes are too small...

I will cut out some hard clear plastic to make the panes...

I only bought 4 window as I was not sure I would like them...I wish I had gotten more now...

the shutters are extremely nice...

I bought 10 of these lamps...

they are HO scale street lamps...

I also bought a 6 Volt transformer...

the lights are HO scale street lamps...

so I think they will be okay for porch lamps on 1/35 scale...

they are a little over 1/2" tall...

I'm hoping I can get them to light up...it might look cool...

if not...they would still look good unlit...

Michael, on or off the lamps will look great, but all lit up would be something else:cool::cool:

Cheers

Martyn:)

Your creativity and experimentation with new ideas (lamps, transformer) continue to amaze us all Michael. I anxiously wait to see this current project of yours finished and garrisoned with troops.
:) Mike

Even if I can't get these to light up...they should still look nice...

Thanks Martyn, Mike, Scott and Joe...

I got some work done today...

I made some barracks for the soldiers...two stories of them on one side of the compound...

I would like to put some lanterns by the doors and a railing on the second level...I left plenty of room behind them to run the wiring for the lights....

I still need to cut some windows for them...I bet it got hot inside those forts in the desert with those tall walls...I better give the guys some windows...hahaha...

the steps were a pain in the butt...

I can't believe nobody makes some nice wooden stairs or at least the stringers to build your own...

anyway...I had to make my own...they turned out okay...the scale is pretty nice on them and I think once they are painted and weathered they will look okay...

here are some pics...everything is fitting pretty snug...so I'm happy...

Like I was saying...I have left plenty of access to the underside for the wiring...so...I hope it doesn't turn into too much of a problem when the UPS truck brings them...

as I mentioned in one of my first posts...I was concerned about the interior ground floor of the compound shrinking as I add buildings...

I put two cans of paint to show where two more buildings are going...

the one closest to the gate will be for livestock...camels, sheep and some cattle maybe...

the other building will be non descript....maybe a commissary or storage building...I dunno...just a building...

the wood between them will be steps to the upper levels...

so you can see how small the compound will be...but there's not much I can do about it now...it's about as big a fort as I really wanted...I really think it's gonna be okay and if it isn't...well it is what it is...
