Just read a great book about the first real powerhouse team in the NFL called "The Breaker Boys". In 1925 the Pottsville Maroons from little Pottsville PA. blew away all opponents including the Packers and Bears. They beat the Chicago Cardinals (Now the Arizona Cardinals) for the championship at Wrigley Field. The next week they played and beat Notre Dame with the Four Horsemen at Shibe Park in Philadelphia. That was a big deal because at that time the NFL was considered inferior to college football. The NFL then stole the championship from Pottsville because they said they violated the territorial rights of the Philadelphia team. The championship was given to the Cardinals. In recnt years Jeff Lurie of the Eagles and Dan Rooney of The Steelrs have tried to get the owners to give the championship back to Pottsville. Bill Bidwell of the Arizona Cardinals refuses to give up the claim to the championship. Guess if you're the Cards you cling to any kind of championship you can get.

Yes, the Jets had stopped the Browns on 4th down, Bernie Kosar had thrown an incomplete pass and would have been Jets ball with less than a minute and a half to play and the Browns with no timeouts, when Mark Gastineau, who was frustrated because he had been double teamed all day, and hadn't done anything, hit Kosar way late, giving the Browns new life, they tied the game, and eventually lost in overtime.
The Jets also came close to the Superbowl in the late 1990's, when parcels was the Coach, when on the road in Denver in the AFC Championship Game they had the lead at halftime, but fell apart in the second half.
They also lost in the AFC Championship against Miami in the first (1983-1984?) Strike Season. The Jets lost a close game they should have won easily, because Don Shula had the Miami ground crew water down the field, making it a quagmire, to neutralize the Jets league leading run game with Freeman McNeil. Miami, who had no run game, and relied on Dan Marino's passing game, won a close one, and went on to lose to Joe Montana and the 49ers in the Superbowl. Its funny to me when people call Bill Belichek a cheater for filiming walk-throughs, when you compare him to Don Shula, who pretty much perfected cheating in his tenure with the Dolphins.

I kind of had this feeling 37 to 3 FSU! I had that feeling Bobby and the Noles had something up their sleeves..............No tricks, this was just a good ole fashioned whipping, the Terps could not do anything right, FSU played pretty good on both sides of the ball and really pressured MD's offense. As I said before, I have loyalties to both, but the Terps are my alma mater and they just plain got beat, no excuses. The Noles should be commended, now they have to hope the Terps rebound and beat BC next week.
Not sure if everybody saw this, but the kid from FSU, Myron Rolle, won the Rhode's Scholarship, that is quite an accomplishment in today's college football to actually be a student athlete.

Yes Ron, I bow to ol' Bobby and the noles, they whipped our a.. all nite long, But as long as the terps can win Boston College we will get a decent bowl bid,
terrible weekend so far, terps lose, wildcats lose, I hope this isn't a trend with my nfl ravens as we have a tough game at home tommorow against a good eagles team.....Sammy

It was a great game - for me at least - a real vision of what FSU ball use to be and hopefully will be in the future. Everything was done well last night - coaching, play calling, performance on the field and drive to win.
I also very proud of FSU for the way they handeled the Rolle situation and encouraged him to do his academics first - then worry about the game. The way it should be.
All in all - I finally believe we are on the road to recovery of past glory.
NOW - all FSU fans are TERPS FANS ! GO TERPS - SEND US TO THE ACC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME !!

I love it, there are a few things that make me happy on a college football weekend other than my teams winning......ND and Penn State losing!!!!!

Florida is a real good football team and looks unbeatable right now. As a Noles fan, it sickens me, but we may have to live with another gator loss this year.
I agree with Ron's point, the Noles almost looked like glory may be coming back to them. The QB is young, so hopefully last night was a flash of the future to come. The Defense definitely reminded me of the one I have missed for several years..... Fast, explosive, man to man coverage and QB Sacks.

I know, it was just a statement for my perfect weekend, happened a few times in the last years. I respect Paterno, but as a Marylander, they were a thorn for so many years, it was a curse, back when we were competitive with them, they would always find a way to win in the end. Paterno has them back, which is another thorn b/c it is neck and neck with him and Bowden for most wins!

But, then again who knows? Ask Penn State about Iowa - sometimes the unexpected happens.
Tom - wasn't it great to see that DEFENSE chew up those Terps ! Oh man - old time FSU Football there - maybe JIMBO is the man ? - I saw some great coaching last night.
As for ND - I have never understood the hype about them ? - Totally overated and makes a waste for National TV Airtime on Saturdays. IMHO.

Ron, mixed feelings, I am a Terp and a Nole, so happy one minute, sad the next, but overall, I think I will be a happy camper as I truly think you saw a great future rivalry over the next few years. MD was better than the score, but FSU was flawless last night, which again was nice to see!
As for ND, it is the money and loyal following. Every crowd you encounter, there will be at least a few ND Fans! A lot of hype, a lot of tradition. BUT, for now, they don't deserve to be on tv every week, whoever signed that contract should be fired! They have nose dived and the ratings have followed.

Ron it's great to see that you have given my gators the respect they deserve, but you must know I'm going to be given you hell everyday all week, it wouldn't be a rivalry if I didn't, we will destroy the seminots this weekend, and it won't even be close, if anyone can take a look at the teams the gators have destroyed this year and by the margins how in the world can they not be no.1????? LSU, GA, Miami, yea we took a 1 point loss to ol' miss but I didn't think we would win every game, so after we take out the nots and win the SEC championship game there should be no question who should be in the BCS championship game, say it with me Ron.......gooooooo gators!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..Sammy
