football season is here!!!!!!!!!! (1 Viewer)

I enjoy American football. Of course I watch it on TV and so there are no drunks around.

Michigan is a great state, Detroit has a great history including its French name, and the Lions have nice uniforms...

... but how do they manage to be so bad year after year? Thank God Detroit has the Red Wings. And so here is the question. Will they succeed in having the perfect infamous season?

PS Calgary beat Montreal in the Grey Cup (our superbowl) last Sunday.

Sammy,

I think you need take off the Pimilco "Blinders" and look at this from an observation position. No offense, but have you been to a game lately? It doesn't matter if you are in the club level (my seats), the upper/lower, etc. every section has a host of drunken idiots in it, so to me, that pretty much seems like game, set match. I also hold Terps season tix, no issues there. I think a majority of fans attending Ravens events leave their class and manners at the door, hence my comment Baltomoron, if you are not in that category, fine, so be it, I commend you.

I am a lifelong Marylander, but I also look at the world and every issue through black and white eyes, I call it as I see it, plain and simple. Like it or not, the typical Ravens game experience is anything but pleasant and I find that disgraceful. TRUE loyalty also should breed some class, not righteous indignation and rudeness to all opposition. I do apologize as you are probably from your post not part of the group I describe, but sadly, I believe you are in the minority and I do feel bad for those fans. BUT, I will tell you, I am not the only one who has this opinion. Because of my job, I interact with a lot of people from all over the USA and the majority who have visited Bmore for a Ravens game share the same opinion. I use to never be able to give my tix to business contacts from out of town for fear of the experience they would endure!

Apology accepted, gooooooooooooo ravens...Sammy

Why are the Steelers so hated? I live in Baltimore, but am a life long Pittsburgh fan in general due to where my father grew up and family still live. It wasn't too long ago when the Colts left Baltimore and the Steelers became everyone's home team. It was comical watching my neighbors become closet Steeler fans! Baltimore has won their fair share so it can't be jealousy?

I will also say this, I had Ravens season tix for the first 6 years they were here because of a love for NFL football, unfortunately, I missed watching the Steelers on tv, so now another family member owns them. Getting to the point, I sat in those stands for 6 years and watched the way fans acted, treated opposing fans, etc. IT WAS DISGRACEFUL and I would never subject my little guy much less myself to this again. For the record, the seats were in a very high dollar section, awesome seats, its almost like people forgot their class and manners once they showed up to the game. To me, it is an embarassment on Baltimore. I have been to more Steelers games than I can count and have never seen the kind of BS like I saw in Baltimore. I have also been to the 49ers, Dallas, Washington and Miami and have not seen what I saw in Baltimore for 6 years. Those that know me , know that I am no "prude" when it comes to this kind of stuff, but physical altercations, namecalling that is not suitable for print, etc is what you experience in Baltimore as an opposing fan. I for one have always enjoyed a good ribbing or banter or passionate debate, but I draw the line at drunken fisticuffs, too bad most of Baltimore doesn't.

What are others experiences around the Country?

TD

I am not suprised that a lot of people have bad experiences with drunken fans at football games, tailgating does lend itself to that. On the other hand, I have been to an average of 2 NY Giants games a year for the last ten years, and I have never had a problem. Maybe I am just lucky, but where I usually sit (I buy tickets from a friend with two season tickets in the 12th row around the 20 yardline on the sunny side of the field) I am surrounded by long time fans, generally in their 50's or 60's, who are very knowledgable and are there to watch the game. I am sad to say that due to the (disgraceful) $20,000 seat licenses, it looks like a lot of these guys are going to lose their seats.

Well, Thanksgiving's week 13 games have come and gone, and while two were totally predictable blowouts (Titans over winless Lions, Cowboys over two-win Seahawks), I was more than a little suprised by the Eagles blowout of the Cardinals. I really did not see the Eagles putting on such a strong showing after the last two weeks (the tie with the hapless Bengals and the blowout loss the the Ravens). McNabb played his best game of the season, and the Eagles defense absolutely shut down the Cardinals.

Interestingly, not a single NFC or AFC West team has won a game on the road against an NFC or AFC East team this season - the two western divisions are now 0-14 on the road against the East this season. Is it the time difference? The fact that all but one (Broncos) of the West coast teams play in relatively warm weather cities or indoors, and the Eastern teams, with the exception of Miami and Dallas, play in pretty nasty weather? Or the fact that the best West teams (Cardinals [7-5] and Broncos [6-5]) would be in last place or second to last place by record in the Eastern Divisions? Or a combination of all three?

The Jets get the visiting Broncos Sunday, so we will get another look at the issue. If things go to form, the Jets should beat the Broncos (who lack a defense and a running game) pretty handily. But we'll have to wait and see, that's why they play the games . . .;)

They should fire Weis and start again for the umpteenth time.

If they lose big to SC as expected, this may be Charlie's last rodeo. A lot of people really hate this guy for some reason - they claim he is arrogant, make fun of his weight - brutal stuff. I actually feel a bit sorry for him even as someone who is not a fan of ND. Anyone who saw him get both knees blown out on the sidelines during a pouring rainstorm had to grimace seeing him on crutches at the end of that game. He actually looked like he might die on the field. He has been a terrible coach at that program. No excuse for a team with ND's reputation and every game on national TV to be in this condition. It probably is adios to him after Saturday. ND will be out millions buying out his 10 year deal so I guess you can't feel too sorry for him.

These were dreadful games. All you had to do was watch the first quarter and walk away. The inability of western teams to beat the eastern teams is akin to the eastern teams having to go west in baseball. It's often not a pretty picture.

As a Giants fan, I'm confident Sunday but a Jets fans is never confident. There's something about being a fan of teams whose last three letter is "ets." You can never relax.

Football coaches come down to one word; EGO, in capital letters. Guys like Weis, Billick, Crennel, Martz, Turner, etc, etc who are brilliant offensive/defensive coordinations are never, ever happy, they want to be the head guy and run the show, but most of them cannot. Guys who are brilliant college coaches and are set for life try to coach in the NFL and are brutal failures (Spurrier, Caroll, etc,etc ) and end up back in college.

Had Weis and Crennel stayed in New England, they'd have won two more Super Bowls each by now and be the two highest paid offensive and defensive coordinators around, funny how both are on the hot seat this year.

Weis has been a train wreck at Notre Dame as has Crennel been at Cleveland, just awful head coaches.

Both will get buy outs at their employers expense and end up where there both belong; back in the NFL as coordinators and be happy with that (but they never are, see above, ie, EGO)..............

Brad, what are you going to do when the two teams meet up in the Super Bowl as all the nitwits at ESPN are now predicting, you'll be happy either way at the end of the game, right?

The Giants are a lock as the #1 seed in the NFC and the Jets are two games behind the Titans for the same seed in the AFC and barring an epic gag job by either team, it's the Gints vs the Just End The Sufferings in Detroit come this February. My only hope is the Steelers, with that all world defense, meet the drama queen in the AFCCG and break him in half.

Should they meet in the Super Bowl, I know what I'll be doing; going to see a chick flick with my girlfriend, it will be the first time in 43 years I will not watch the Super Bowl, no way, no how, ain't gonna happen.

What, you won't go see a chick flick with your girlfriend. What kind of boyfriend are you?

Maybe Weis will end up back in New England if McDaniel gets a head coaching job somewhere?

Ron,

Anything can happen, and the Redskins are certainly a good team, with the number 3 defense in the league, the league's leading rusher in Portis, and a quarterback who has only thrown 3 interceptions all season. However, they lost to Dallas two weeks ago, and eeked out a 17-14 win over the pathetic Seahawks last week.

If the Giants take this game seriously, and focus on running the ball down the Redskins throat, I think they have a good chance of winning, especially since they have been the best road team in the league over the past two seasons.

George,

If the Giants and the Jets were to both make the superbowl (a highly unlikely set of circumstances, involving both teams peaking at the right time and playing mistake free football throughout the playoffs - personally I think a Steelers-Giants matchup, a rematch of last year's Superbowl, or a Manning vs. Manning superbowl are just as likely, and there is no guaranty that the Giants won't get bumped off by a hot Cowboys or Redskins squad) I would think you would want to skip the chick flick and watch just to root the Giants on against the Jets, a team you obviously despise.

Louis,
A rematch of last years Super Bowl; nice thought, but lay off the eggnog because if the Patriots lose this weekend, they could end up 11-5 and out of the playoffs, losing the division to the drama queen and the Jets and losing the wildcard tie breakers to both the Steelers (who should win the division a anyway) and the Colts, they continue to pull out last second wins.

They would be the first team in AFC history to finish with 11 wins and not make the playoffs.

The Jets look to be peaking at the right time, they got off to a slow start but the drama queen isn't trying to win games all by himself and is playing within himself.

Your other scenarios; Manning brothers Super Bowl (forget the chick flick; if that happens, I'll go away for a week with my girlfriend to an island somewhere in the South Pacific with no phones, no lights, no motor cars, not a single luxury) and Steelers vs the Giants, I'd watch that one, Giants trying to win back to back Super Bowls and the Steelers trying to win yet another Super Bowl, their sixth, giving them the most Super Bowl wins ever.

"My two cents on SUNDAY - NFL Game of the Week !

REDSKINS ! :D :D :D

UPSET Giants!  "

Speaking of eggnog, looks like another forum member is hitting the adult version with that prediction; please..............

"Maybe Weis will end up back in New England if McDaniel gets a head coaching job somewhere?"

Maybe, McDaniel will be a hot item over the off season, Cassel, who hasn't started an NFL game prior to week 2 vs the Jets and who last started a game in High School, has been lights out, so you never know. Charlie is/was a brilliant offensive coordinator with the Patriots, if Josh left, I'd love to see him come back........

D-DAY HAS ARRIVED, gators vs. seminoles, my prediction, it will close in the first half then the gators will blow'em out in the second half, final score...gators 38 seminoles 17, sorry Ron but hopefully my terps can help you out in the A.C.C. with a win at BC....Sammy

As a Noles fan, even if they play perfect as they did at Maryland, I am afraid only hope today is to knock Tebow out of the game, than they have a "punchers" chance.

As for the Terps, Fridge needs to beat them as he has a lot of flack coming for the inconsistency they have shown this year. I still can not get over the Middle Tenn St loss and probably never will. That was inexcusable and he has never answered for it. Pathetic loss that continues to sting all year long. Virginia was another misfire, horrid. We need to beat Boston College bottom line.

TD

As a Terp fan and a '76 alum I have found this years team to be the most frustrating team I have rooted for. Does Ralph know what he is doing? How can they beat ranked teams and then not show up for the "sure thing" game? Oh, the agony. --- lancer

GO TERPS !

Beat BC !

Yeah for the TURTLE !! :D :D :D
