football season is here!!!!!!!!!! (1 Viewer)

"Almost pulled it out?? Since when does that matter?? They lost.
And please don't use the excuse of injuries. Nobody cares. Everybody has injuries this time of year. That's just sour grapes.

Yeah, they scored the tying touchdown WITH ONE SECOND LEFT and lost the game in overtime, so yes chief, they almost pulled it out. They were losing by 17 points, did you watch the same game I did?

No injury excuses from me, but I guess you automatically assumed that was were I'd go next.

Everyone has injuries this time of year; wow, what a profound statement, did you think that one up on your own?

I'll take 6-4 at this point of the season; if we don't make the playoffs, life goes on. I've still got those wonderful memories of the three Super Bowl wins in four years to look back on; if you want a highlight DVD, shoot me your address and I'll fire off a copy to you, ok?

That's OK. I don't need your highlight DVD. I'm a Steelers fan. I have 5 Super Bowl highlights I can watch. Oh, and we didn't cheat to win any of ours.

Another tough week for the Skins. Losing at home is never fun, I remember when that just did not happen and losing to Dallas at home is the worst. 6-4 is an also ran record and there was not much offense to speak of in this game, none in the second half. Must generate more offense or lose.:(;)

"That's OK. I don't need your highlight DVD. I'm a Steelers fan. I have 5 Super Bowl highlights I can watch. Oh, and we didn't cheat to win any of ours."

Gee, I never, EVER would have guessed you were a Steelers fan. I figured either Steelers or Colts; you know, the two teams we've tortured this past decade.

Not once, but twice going to Pittsburg and beating you in the AFCCG.

And no, you didn't cheat to win any of yours; more than half the team in the 70's was on steriods.

Nope, no cheating there.

So predictable.

More than half the team?? Laughable. Name them. There may have been a couple offensive linemen doing steroids in the 1970's. Now having the arrogance to have someone stand right on the sidelines taping the other coaches, thats cheating. That gave them a definite advantage when they played teams for the second time in a season. They probably could've used some tapes when they played the Giants for the second time last year.

The Steelers of the 70's introduced steroids to the NFL like the Oakland A's and Jose Canseco did to MLB in the 80's.

Go ahead and deny it all you want, facts are facts; pot, meet kettle.

The Patriots went 18-0 without the aid of video taping and they won two Super Bowls on the last play of the game, so if video taping gave them such a huge advantage, neither game would have been that close and they would not have gone undefeated without the tapes, so your point is pointless.

Their AFCCG wins were a different story; they blew the Steelers out both times on the road.

Priceless.

Joey Porter still hasn't stopped yapping.

Again, I completely understand now why you are so torked off at the Patriots, I'd be too if I were a Steelers fan.

Get over it.

"Oh, and we didn't cheat to win any of ours."

No, the refs gift wrapped the last one and were even were nice enough to put a bow on it.

Let me know when the ball breaks over the goal line on "Big Ben's" TD run, we're all still waiting for it to happen even though deaf, dumb and blind all called it a TD AND blew the review as well. It's an honest mistake, a helmet looks just like a football.

Beautiful.

Torked off about the Patriots??? Did the Patriots even have fans before 2001?? No tradition, cheesy goofy uniforms. a creep for a head coach. The Patriots have a long way to go to reach the status of the Steelers in the NFL. Ever wonder why the whole country was rooting against them last year?
I always hear Patriot fans say they got no advantage from taping. Then why did they keep cheating year after year? They must've got something from it.

"Torked off about the Patriots???" Yes you are, admit it and you'll feel better, those two AFCCG losses are killing you, aren't they?

"Did the Patriots even have fans before 2001??" I love it when opposing fans pull this lame arguement out of the hat. Played in the AFL title game vs the Chargers, made the playoffs in 76, 78, 83, 86, 87, 94, 96, 97 and 98, made the Super Bowl in 86 and 97, so yeah, we've had fans before 2001.

"No tradition", read what I just wrote; do you consider terrible towels "tradition?" Please.

"Cheesy goofy uniforms". That's a reason to hate a team, cheesy goofy uniforms? And those Stooler uniforms are award winners, couldn't they afford a logo on both sides of the helmet?

"a creep for a head coach". Insert genius in place of creep and you've got something. His SB defensive scheme vs the Bills is in the pro football HOF and he shut down the greatest show on turf with a pack of nobodies and cast offs in 2001, held the Colts in 2003 to a whopping 3 points, the same Colts who had set all kinds of offensive records that year, beat a 15-1 heavily favored Stoolers team on the road in the AFCCG in 2004, waxed them actually 42-17, and coached last years team to a perfect regular season record of 16-0, first time that has been done since 1972. Just because Scowler blew not one (Chargers), not two (Patriots in 2001), but three (Patriots in 2004) AFCCG at home, don't hate on BB, ok?

"The Patriots have a long way to go to reach the status of the Steelers in the NFL." Steelers have been to six Super Bowls, the Patriots have also been to six. We are two wins away from tying you for most wins in the SB by an AFC team, you call that a long way to go?

"Ever wonder why the whole country was rooting against them last year?" Yeah, because of jealousy, pretty simple.

"I always hear Patriot fans say they got no advantage from taping. Then why did they keep cheating year after year? They must've got something from it."
Think whatever you want to think if it helps you sleep better at night.

Listen, if you want to bash the Patriots, at least try to get some of your facts straight next time.

No it wasn't jealousy last year. It was because they're just a very unlikeable team. If the Titans have a chance to go undefeated this year, I'm sure a lot of people will be rooting for them.
No I don't call The Terrible Towel tradition. I call having the greatest team of all time tradition. A team that's been owned by a great family for 76 years that does things the right way. They're not owned by some corporate sleazeball.
So he Patriots made the playoffs a few times through the years? Sorry I don't remember them having a rabid following. They were always a nondescrpt team. And they always will be. They'll never compare in Stature with the Steelers and you know it.

"I call having the greatest team of all time tradition. A team that's been owned by a great family for 76 years that does things the right way." The greatest team of all time? Exactly how many championships did they win prior to the steroid years of the 1970's anyway, count them up and get back to me, ok. The Packers are the greatest team of all time.

"They're not owned by some corporate sleazeball." So Mr Kraft, who used to sit in the stands like the rest of us, is a corporate sleazeball according to you? He bought a team that was in the toilet at the time and turned it into the model to which all other teams strive for, the team of the decade too by the way, so chew on that.

"So he Patriots made the playoffs a few times through the years?" Do you read any or my responses or are you just making stuff up to prove your points; SIX Super Bowl appearances, only the Stoolers and Doofins have as many in the AFC, four in the past seven years, five AFCCG appearances, a 21 game regular season winning streak, a perfect 16-0 season, first team ever to win 16 regular season games. Ever as in E-V-E-R, something your steriod teams of the 70's couldn't do.

16-0 in the regular season? Who cares. You didn't win the Championship although Patriot fans act like they are the champs. You never named the players from the 70's who were on steroids. So who were they? You don't know what your talking about. How long was Rodney Harrison using HGH? I don't know why you Patriot fans can't get it through your heads, THEY CHEATED FOR ALL THEIR SUPER BOWL SEASONS AND SHOULD HAVE AN ASTERICK PLACED IN THE RECORD BOOKS. Anybody who knows a little bit about football knows the Steelers of the 70's are the greatest team of all time. Better than the Packers of the 60's, the Dolphins of the 70's or the 49ers of the 80's. The recent Patriot teams aren't even in the same league.

Pittsburgh Stoolers; 1933-1971, grand total of one, count em, ONE playoff appearance.

Pittsburgh PA; the city where the Patriots traditionally go to pick up their Lamar Hunt trophy..........................

Guys,

I think enough is enough. We know that you love your teams. Let's face it: the Steelers and the Patriots that won the titles were great teams as were great dynasties of the past such as the Dolphins and the 49ers.

So let's move on.

let's move on to the college discussions, that n.f.l. stuff is getting a little deep,...now i hope capitalron is back with us because his florida st. team plays my maryland terps this weekend for the biggest game of the year so far in the a.c.c., winner retains 1st place with a chance to play for the a.c.c. championship depending on the following game for both teams, where you at ron??? you must fear the turtle!!!!!!...sammy

Sammy

Shant happen Ron, it will be close though. I'll say Md. 24--Fl.21, coming down to turnovers,...Sammy

Here's a question for all you NFL football fans: Do the Titans go 16-0 and the Lions go 0-16?

And for you College Fans, how about ditching the BCS B.S., and having the championship decided the way it is in all other sports, by a playoff on the field?

Discuss . . .

Being a Terp graduate, this is a tough game for me as I have strong family ties to FSU that go back well before I was born and they obviously were in the ACC. This is always hard to root for someone even though I graduated a Terp and a member of the football program.

My predicition, FSU doesn't like the cold weather, late November games in the North and Maryland has played well at home. With Myron Rolle maybe missing the entire game (Rhodes Scholar, go FSU!), FSU is in even more trouble. All indications equal Maryland on this one, but I have a strange feeling the ole riverboat gambler has a surprise in store for Maryland. Should be interesting.

Side note, as good as Maryland has done recently, in my opinion, the program is still nowhere near the glory years of Claiborne in the 70s and Bobby Ross in the 80s.

PS to the Steelers post, say what you will about their history (33 to 71), they are still one of the most if not most recognizable and renown NFL franchises ever and they are a first class organization, the epitome of NFL football. The Rooney family should constantly be commended for tradition and honor, too many teams have "thrown" that away in recent years.

One other thing, not to get you George!!! But the streroids issue of the 70s was not just the steelers, they just have happened to admit it freely and moved on, see Terry B.'s recent interview. The pills were popping like candy across the country from Oakland to Denver, etc., they just didn't know any better. Amphetamines were prevalent and in candy dishes in every locker room too, remember, there were no illegalities at the time. I would say that steroids posed no real advantage back them as they all did them pretty much openly. They were used more in the healing/recovery than strength at the time. Alzado, Matuzak and a few Raiders are the real start of the power producing steroid ingestion.

Louis

I am all in favor of a playoff system - like the pros - the BCS is crap.

Plus - it give us More Games to WATCH ! :D
