football season is here!!!!!!!!!! (2 Viewers)

"Two teams I don't want to have to play in the playoffs are the Ravens again or the Patriots. I don't know the Patriots chances of making the playoffs but I don't want to see them coming to Heinz Field. Too many bad memories. I can see the Jets losing to Seattle next week so the Pats might still have a shot."

I would't worry about playing the Patriots JR, they are a long shot at best to make the playoffs. They need to a.) Beat Arizona and Buffalo b.) have the Ravens lose one of their remaining two games or c.) have both Miami and the Jets finish 10-6. Either way, they have to win two and hope two other teams end up losing one of two; legit playoff teams do not have to worry about other teams losing to get into the playoffs.

The ironic thing is having the drama queen come out of retirement burned them twice; he went to their most hated rival, which made the Jets better, and as a result, the Jets cut Pennington and he landed in Miami, which made them better as well.

And you guys wonder why I hate the Jets with a passion; only they could screw the Patriots not once, but twice.

Another irony; last year, the Patriots were the only team in NFL history to win 16 games; this year, they could be the only team in NFL history to win 11 games and not get into the playoffs.

I'm sticking with my prediction from a few weeks ago; Steelers vs the Giants in the Super Bowl, although the Giants have looked pathetic on offense the past two weeks ever since Burress shot himself in the leg, him doing so appears to have shot the Giants in the foot. If they take care of business at home next week, they still can lock up the #1 seed; if not, they could really go in the tank, lose to the Vikings as well to end the season and go from the #1 seed, a bye and home field throughout the playoffs to the #4 seed, host one playoff game and then have to win two on the road to get back to the Super Bowl, which they are capable of doing as last year they were road warriors, winning 11 games on the road in route to the upset of the century, second biggest of all time in the Super Bowl............

It's Monday morning and I still feel sick, all the Ravens needed was ONE first down on that last series before punting back to the steelers and the game would have been over, I guess my Ravens need to find some way of playing some offense in the big games because there are 3 losses on thier record they easily could have won with just a little more offense.

but were still alive, and control our own fate so off to Dallas for another tough game so all is not lost yet, plus Xmas is only 10 days away!!!!!!! Sammy

Sammy,

Aw, c'mon, it's only a game. At least, they'll be in the playoff and who knows. Let's not forget Flocco is only a rookie and next year he'll be better for this year's experience.

Now, the Orioles, that's another story. Sorry, I can't offer any encouragement there :(

Hey Brad, can't thank you enough for your advice about the the whole "ruminating" thing; my girlfriend and I ruminated last night just like you told us to, so thanks again..............

Looks like the playoff seeds in the AFC are set pretty much, if the Steelers beat the Titans next week, they are the #1 seed and the path to the Super Bowl leads through Pittsburg.

If they knock off the Titans next week, the Steelers are clearly the best team in the AFC. They may be the best team without beating the Titans, that game today was like a playoff game, so the Steelers may be off a tad next week and who can blame them, that was a great game today in Baltimore.

After the Steelers, I've got the Colts as the #2 team (seven in a row and counting), then the Ravens, the Titans, the Broncos and Miami.

Brad, no offense, but your quote was "The Ravens are a nice little team but not much more than that." Are you kidding, their defense is all world, second only to Pittsburg. The Jets; they had ZERO, NONE, NO business at all winning that game today, it was yet another gift in the Meadowlands.

They have looked terrible the past three weeks; if I owed the Bills, I'd fire the offensive coordinator and wouldn't allow him on the plane. 2nd and five, two minutes to go, they ran wild on the Jets all day long and he calls A PASS PLAY?! Absolutely moronic; as the great Bill Parcells used to say, when you pass, three things can happen and two of them are bad.

I expect the Dolphins to beat the Jets in week 16 to capture the AFC East, leaving the Patriots as the odd team out at 11-5 (they should win their last two games), the first team in NFL history to finish 11-5 and not make the playoffs.

My early prediction is Steelers vs the Giants or Panthers in the Super Bowl.............
I thought Darrell Royal had that quote about the pass.

My question is can the Steelers muster enough offense to overcome some unfortunate event. I hope so because I sure would like to see the Steelers defense against the Carolina running game, hide the women and children.

You should feel sick. After a very promising start the Skins can't even beat the pathetic Bengals and have now effectively ended their post season hopes; now that's a basis to feel sick.

You guys who are feeling sick after tough losses yesterday should try ruminating like Brad suggested, it works wonders.

I did somemore ruminating with my girlfriend when she got home from work earlier tonight and I feel better already........

Hey now!

Sick is being a Chiefs fan. How do you give up 14 points in the last 74 seconds to a team you dominated all day? They keep finding new ways to lose every single week. Thank goodness the GM Carl Peterson finally resigned today (before he got fired I think). 20 years is too long to not even sniff a Super Bowl!

Shared sympathy with all the fans of other teams breaking your hearts this season.

Eric

"20 years is too long to not even sniff a Super Bowl!"

When was the last time the Chiefs were in the AFCCG, their last Super Bowl appearance was in 1970, which was 38 years ago.

The only thing I remember about the Chiefs recent playoff games is the loss to the Colts at home when Marty was the coach back in 1995 (I think you guys were down by seven with under three minutes left and Marty punted?!) and that game in 2003 vs the same Colts when they got into that shootout with Manning.........................

Gee Warrior, thanks for the kick in the junk.:D

The "20 years" reference is based on the resignation of the Chiefs' GM Carl Peterson on Monday. When he took over the team after the 1988 season he said he had a 5 year plan to reach the Super Bowl (named by our founding owner Lamar Hunt, by the way). 20 years later we never came close and he committed mistake, after mistake, after mistake due to his ego. He is as reviled an exec for professional sports in Kansas City as there ever was anywhere - even Matt Millen pales.

You are correct, however - it has been ages since we competed for the title. The last time we came "close" was under Marty when we lost to the Bills. It has been a long, cold winter for Chiefs fans ever since. I was born in 1971 so the glory of the early teams isn't my experience - only the joy of regular seasons crushed by constant, frustrating collapse during much of the 90's fill my memory.

The team is now run by Lamar's son, Clark, who shows early signs of promise as an owner. I hope we can rise to the challenge.

Eric,
I forgot about the Chiefs team under Montana that played in the AFCCG vs the Bills. I'm a tad bit older than you, but I remember the Chiefs of the late 60's and early 70's, they had some great teams back then.

All sports teams have ups and downs for sure, I'm a big Chiefs fan this weekend if it helps, I hope they can knock off the Dolphins and help us get into the playoffs..................

Coming back to the present ... well last night actually. After the first quarter when the Colts offence basically kept their seats warm on the sidelines, I thought they were cooked. And then Manning won. Well okay, the Colts won. I've never been a Colts fan, well not since Unitas and his black boots, but last night I was impressed.

Warrior -

I thought I would be torn between wanting to win and wanting a higher draft pick but when the game started last week I just wanted a win. When I'm not watching a game I tend to think in terms of the future but when I watch it and get emotionally invested (again, hehe) I want a win most of all. So, I will definitely be pulling for my boys Sunday. I hope the nice, cold, icy weather will wilt the Fish but time we'll see.

Russell -

I watched the game last night and thought the Jags were doing a great job of keeping the ball away from Manning and Co while still putting up enough offense to win. I wouldn't have expected a interception return for a TD being the winning play. One thing about the Colts - you can't count them out until the game is over.

Eric

Finally!!!!!!!!!!!! my ravens showed some offense in a big game, now if we can just take care of the jags next week at home, here we come playoffs!!!!!...Sammy

Well my team can only be a spoiler now but if it doesn't start winning we likely get yet another new head coach. That would be a mistake so I hope they win.:(
