Gary's collection (1 Viewer)

A little eclectic this week as some joy flew into Tasmania. Cold Steel Miniatures are great value reasonable quality figures from Chester in the UK. They focus on the Napoleonic Peninsular campaign and it got me watching those old episodes from the Sharpe series. The prices excluding VAT are great and in less than a week I have 5 Empress Dragoons and 4 French infantry. Having not purchased from this manufacturer before I will certainly be back for more. Some of the British infantry look rather good and at prices that can't be beat.

I continue to chip away at the K&C Pike and Musket range with two more mounted Roundhead troopers while one of the stray JJD El Cid range figures made it in just in time for the weekend. It is a splendid mounted figure and well worth the wait.

Great additions Gary! I really like those Napoleonics. It's the first time that I recall seeing this company.

Hi Brendon try their website, just Google Cold Steel Toy Soldiers, and you will see what I mean re pricing. The figures are around the quality of William Britain's figures in my humble opinion so if you are looking for quality of First Legion or K&C then these might not be for you. But if you want to fill the ranks then they are a real find.

Hi Gary,
Always enjoy seeing images of your collection. Your photography is top notch.
Thanks Rob. Its only an old Coolpics camera that I use. One day I will get my hands on something decent, I need to smile sweetly at my wife or stop buying so many toy soldiers! I try to take photos I can use in articles I write for Toy Soldier Collector Magazine (the latest issue has one on the Zulu War I submitted sometime ago). I have just drafted one on the Conquest of the Aztec Empire by the Conquistadors and am about to start one on the English Civil War. The publishers have around 30 articles from me on all periods of history at the moment and the editor chooses if and when to use any of my humble offerings.

Its another way of using my collection (most of which is stored in New Zealand) as I enjoy researching the history, taking the photos and putting my own slant on history. Its not for everyone but it works for me.

This week I was lucky to receive the John Jenkins May releases some K&C while I wait on Thomas Gunn to be shipped next weeks and those Team Miniature Franco/Prussian War Algerians and US Gatling Gun may arrive by the end of next week. The rerelease of the K&C Scots Greys was a welcome opportunity to add to few I had bought many years ago,

A little Thomas Gunn came in this week. A great value Panzer III was included together with German mortar team and a couple of NCO's to pad out the Boer War Scottish infantry.

A small parcel of Team Miniatures French Algerian Zouaves and a Yank Spanish/American War Gatling gun flew into Tassie on Friday. Really nice figures as I have come to expect from TM. They are fast becoming my new favourite figures, although John Jenkins is still remaining poll position but only just!

A bit of JJD came in late this week with a few more destined to arrive Monday. Normans, Saxons, 1st Virginia Cavalry and those late republic Romans are the stand outs for me.

The 1997 Rough Riders version is on YouTube, you can see it on your smart TV.
Dang, that was a great movie/series!

As always, great photos. I am such a huge fan of the TM Algerians. Thanks fir sharing you4 collection with us

Just a small parcel of Thomas Gunn goodies came in this week. There was definitely tension in the Tuetoburg Forest with some chunky Romans. The first of the French Indochina figures was released and this range should go well with some K&C VC figures while there were some slightly smaller scale Zulu warriors with stolen rifles from the hands of dead British redcoats. Hopefully these will be a good fit with my William Britain Zulus back in New Zealand.

Orders are backed up at the moment with JJD figures about to leave Hong Kong, Team Miniatures Bahamas Natives and Prussian cavalry somewhere in the ether, K&C figures hopefully arriving next week while a First Legion order has just been placed. And then there is the latest release from Thomas Gunn to pay for and get shipped. I am sure they will all arrive like buses!

Well shipping to Tassie was double quick this time with a few figures arriving Friday. I really like the Caesar & Cleopatra set, I do whish TG would do more Egyptian stuff. I got a couple of useful German tank riders while completing the Japanese surrender as the sun sets on the Imperial Empire was rewarding.

Monday should see the delivery of the latest John Jenkins sets and perhaps later next week King & Country releases plus some older figures now on sale. First Legion Macedonian infantry are winging their way from the States but I suspect this will take several weeks.
