Gestapo Staff Car Incident (2 Viewers)

I waited to comment until I received issue 111 which had Andy's letter to the editor and Stuart's reply. I did not find the set in question to be in bad taste. In fact, I found it to be interesting, unique, thought provoking, and technically speaking, excellent. I guess bad taste is in the eye of the beholder. I found it to be similar in nature to K & C's Battle of the Buldge set showing the German soldier being shot by a firing squad. Oh, well.

It did take a degree of courage for Stuart to write such a critical review of TS & MF magazine's best advertising customer. However, Stuart did point out that he is, and should be, completly independent of the magazine's sales department.

I hope Andy does not pull his advertising. I, for one, look forward every month to the reviews which invariably cover K & C's latest products. And K & C's ads are works of art.

He may be independent from sales department, but he still represent the magazine. If I were the owner and it affects my sale, I'll fire him. It's different if you're with the New York Times or BBC where you could peddle your own point of view. Let's view history as it happens and not sugar coat it, such that the next generation will have no clue.

BTW, in Japan's history books, there's just a brief mention of WWII, no details. Some Japanese exchange students I know are sometimes shock to read details of WWII (at Barnes & Noble) and will often say "were sorry."

I have been subscribing to the Los Angeles Times for more than 30 years. I hate their editorial bias, so I don't read the editorial page. I do read the hard news, because it is the best coverage we have in the region. I don't think he should be fired for criticizing a particular set that K & C made, eventhough I think he was way off base.

I am firing him because he's losing sales, but again that's me, a hard core capitalist.

Without getting this thing going again - I think the real question is there even such a thing as an editoral page in a Hobby Mag ? Stuart is certainly allowed his point of view - but, it should not be at the expense of his owners.

I agree with UCLA on this point - if we are pointing out extremes then it should be done fairly and across the board - not just at one Company.

NP you are right - Its easy to be brave with other peoples money. In my book it was a cheap shot.

I'm a SC grad and whenever I check out the LA Times sports page on their website the first thing that comes up is a picture of the cross dressing sports writer guy in a blonde wig. He has a blog they feature for some reason. To each his own, but The LA Times is a very weird place when that move advanced his sports reporting career.

I am not sure how he is losing sales unless a bunch of you are canceling your subscriptions to TS & MF magazine. To me, that would be like cutting off your nose to spite your face. The magazine is so much bigger than any particular editor.

To N-P and Ron-

Who is the owner of the magazine?

I am just curious because, at least, Stuart A. Hessney looks like to be the editor. He seems to be more than a single columnist.

To Ron alone-

What do you mean by: if we are pointing out extremes then it should be done fairly and across the board - not just at one Company.

I do not understand. I must have missed something.

Or is it the same old belief?

Pierre.

Pierre

There is a BIG difference in being an editor (employee) than a owner of a publication !

and

When I spoke of opinion reviews of Toy Soldier Products - it should be applied to Conte, Britians and et all..............

I have not seen critical "editoral opinion reviews" of other Toy Soldier Makers in this publication - that was my point. I not trying to pick a fight with you Pierre - I was simply "Stating My Opinion" - right?

I rest my case.

Hey guys, any news on the Fieseller Storch? My SS General (LAH series) wants to fly out to the Warsaw ghetto.

Hey, if I lived in Peoria, AZ (as my brother does), I would want the Fieseller Storch to fly me out of there to a cooler clime about this time of the year.

One final point. Editors come and go. I believe Stuart Hessney is at least the third editor that TS & MF magazine has had to date. I also am aware that he serves as such on a part-time basis. The other British magazine, Toy Soldier Collector, has had two editors in its relatively short life.

Mike:

It's 110F at an average and it's just the start of summer. "Looking forward" to a high of 118F in July. But as Arizonans would say..."it's dry heat!" You can feel the scorching heat on your skin but you don't sweat because of low humidity(unlike in FL in summer...you sweat like hell even just by sitting in the shade because of high humidity). Our trick is to stay on the shade and at indoor malls (or drive up to Flagstaff. AZ or San Diego CA)-that's the lifestyle for the next 3 months, then it's 9 months of gorgeous weather.

While we're discussing magazines (well sort of;)) which of the two should I give my subscription to. Thanks.

My personal preference is TSMF coz it is "hobbycentric" It provides insight on manufacturers, latest trends/releases, etc.

I am a charter subscriber to both. But I actually prefer Toy Soldier & Model Figure magazine to the Toy Soldier Collector. Although TS & MF has sections I am not interested in (e.g., 1/6 figures), it seems a little more polished than TSC with better quality photography. They both cost about the same on a per copy basis.

BTW, I was born and raised in Pendleton, Oregon. Where are you located?

Didn't realise this set had so many drama,s when first released makes for some interesting reading.

I remember speaking with Stuart after that review I think it was fair to say his dislike of the Nazi's obfuscated his review of the set.
Mitch

Yes, it did make for some interesting discussion. I never liked the set so never bought it. I can't remember if the firestorm started when the set came out or when it was photographed next to a building made by Gordon that some interpreted as a crematorium but was more likely a factory.

This thread also shows us some of the ' missing' who no longer or rarely post.
