Household Cavalry (Royal Horse Guards) (1 Viewer)

I've just had a phone call from a Director of Music freind of mine, to let me know that the next D of M of The Life Guards is a woman! Lets hope she will wear the correct uniform and not ride around dressed as a Verinary officer, like the Pricess Royal!^&grin

The commanding officer of King's Troop is also of the female persuasion as are a lot of the drivers and trumpeters. Give them their due, they do the job as well as any man, and are much prettier too! Trooper

So who is going to be the first manufacturer/ supplier to offer a female option for collectors who wish to portray things as they actually are - and perhaps NOT as some people would wish that they remain?:rolleyes2:

Any thoughts? - this would probably make an interesting thread too? johnnybach%^V

I have no problem with women doing the job, I've got two grown daughters and I've always encouraged them to do what ever makes them happy. My only problem is that all squadies are now supposed to be equal, if that is the case then the women should have the same height limit for the guards and the same hair cut rather than a "bun" sticking out from under the helmet. Also when the rules were changed, there wasn't supposed to be any women in the "teeth" arms. They got around this by making all musicians attached rather than of the regiment.

I have the Princess Royal in her Vet'niry garb. Any idea why she wears this uniform?

And lastly - because her Mum told her to. Just look at the last gal to go riding without her uniform - they sent her to Coventry!^&grin

On that note - I end my stand-up routine - I thankyou!%^V

Well being that her mam is is the Colonel in Cheif I suppose she can wear what ever she wants! ( remind me to tell you about the ivory pass!) All of the uniform is RHG/D, as the M.O. and Vet both wear cocked hats but personaly I think she should have worn the helmet without cuirass. The Quartermaster and Director of Music do! It is possible that she tried the helmet and just couldn't manage it.

Yes - but a bit earlier you mentioned that all soldiers should be equal - therefore, in the interests of "equality" , does this mean that before going on parade, all soldiers will have the opportunity to reject any item of "uniform" that they don't really think suits them?

I call this the "does my bum look big in this" syndrome.

If you wanna join the club - you gotta obey the rules. Uniform means what it says - uniform. Now, where's Mamm's tin hat and upper regions-plate then? (can't use that word!)

OR have all the lads in bicorns etc. Fair comment? jb

Bang! there goes the OBE!

Ah, but don't forget that there is precedent, Johnny, have you ever seen the Queen in a bearskin? She adopted a semi tricorne instead, and IMO quite right too. By the way are you going to the London show? And if not why not? Trooper

Well, my mum never wore a bearskin either - but if I wanted to join the Guards - could I then say "Sorry Sarge, can't wear that - it doesn't suit me - and me mam never had one neither", sniff (wipes nose wth back of hand in urchin-like way!)

Not that I would join the Guards - they wouldn't have an outfit that small!

As to the London Show, old bean - I would simply love to go - but I won't be in country at that time - I'm minding someone's dog and garden - so they can do the same for me in June/July. I'll be in South of UK then - is there a show in June?

I have to admit - that HM QEII looked very good on horseback a few years ago when she rode Burma (I think that was her horse's name) at Trooping. I know Britains, amongst others did a mounted figure - but would really like a castings version to paint myself. Anyone know if somebody does one? :)

I personally don't believe ANY of the royal family should have joined the Household Cavalry! Our job was/is bodyguard to the monarch. How can here daughter and grandsons be her bodyguard?
As I say all of the uniform bits are correct except for the upright plume which was originaly a Coldstream Guards Quartermaster's plume! Also she has had her jackboots cut down so that they now resemble Prussian Kuirassier boots.
I'm just waiting to see what happens when the first Sihk wants to join but says he can't wear the helmet for "religious" reasons.

"Burma" was another RCMP horse.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they say that you can't join if you can't put the uniform required on - at least, I hope they do. If I want to join a Rugby Club - I have to abide by the Club's rules - quite right too! Though it would appear this doesn't apply to ALL people. Some are still, apparently, more equal than others!

As to some privileged people seeming able to dress up by putting on any military uniform they choose, ( and modifying it how they please), whenever they please - Well - I do have a view on that - as well as the displaying of a multitude of decorations across the chest or around the neck (goodness knows what some of them are for!) - but I think I'll just keep those to myself.

Although I would guess you may have guessed already - how I feel about it. Sorry about that - just my view. johnnybach

When I was a recruit we had our first big inspection, it was the Major General London District. We were all a bit nervouse and this Coldstreamer Lance Sergeant gave me two very usefull bits of advice. First "If he dares to speak to you, look him in the eye and answer him so loudly that he'll think twice before speaking to you again". Second, "It doesn't matter who they are, they all get spots on their arse".^&grin
Martin

Spots on their bums! How the hell did HE know??%^V

Oh - sorry Coldstream Guards eh?:salute:: Sah!

I Knew a young man from Dhekalia,
Who painted his bum with a Dahlia,
Now threepence a smell,
Didn't go very well,
And sixpence per kiss was a failure!

Mine's a brandy sour! Cheers!^&grin

Not quite like that, the DOM does not wear the cuirasse. Incidently the rear rank of the bands mounted on greys are trumpeters doubling up as clarinetists. Recommend two books for you, "The Household Cavalry Regiment" by Roy Manser ISBN 85524 235 3, and "Music in State Clothing" by G.R. Lawn ISBN 0 85052 454 7. Also the question of four trumpeters behind the drum horse this occurs at shows when the trumpeters appear without the band. Trooper

Just got the Music in State Clothing and just ordered The Household Cavalry.....thanks for the recommendation Trooper :salute::

Asset DoM and Drum Horse have also been ordered all systems are go :salute::
